love love love this video and how your place is evolving. Please do a video on how to meld styles together as most of us liked more than one style. thanks for posting regularly !
The vibe I'm going for is "bookworm vampire moves into art museum that's being reclaimed by nature". Maximalist, dark, dark academia, indoor jungle, with baroque, rococo, and Victorian touches. Trying to balance that with my apartment's fireplace that is very much modern.
I've always tried to decorate with a vintage style mixed with a goth or witchy vibes. I really love the Victorian style in dark colors that are warm and comfortable, rather than dead. I love dark woods and antiques or knock-offs. A bit of Maximalism that the Victorians used with prints, fabrics, and nick-nacks. It makes sense if you know that I've reached an age where I still wear all black but it's more casual than the goth I use to be, I studied Paganism, and have a collection of silent films and jazz albums. I also make decorative items for the holidays that look homemade and vintage. I absolutely love what you did with your apartment.
Currently working on manifesting hobbitcore into my space. Comfy and cozy. Books everywhere. Tea and snacks always prepared. Nice earthy smells. It's very eclectic indeed and slowly coming together. Your videos have helped so much!
Okay, trying this again...I hit the wrong key and lost everything. Give me a break, I'm almost 73 years young. LOL. Steffi, you are a breath of fresh air and life. After the trauma of losing my dear husband, having to move from the home we rented for 11 years (but I understood that change happens for reasons that we may not understand at that moment - then the future tunes us in...eventually). Oh, and I had a mini-stroke (yeah, no stress) and kicking butt on the cancer diagnosis (not doing chemo, radiation, or meds - just healthy eating and learning to relax). Now I am ready to find ME...and it is a bit goth, hippie, and a wee bit of craziness (aka learning to be free and have fun). Thank you for your videos, you have given me some wonderful ideas. I plan on being 110 years young when I leave this place...so I will have many years of fun...starting with finding my unique style. As my son (RIP) would say - You Rock.
I find myself attracted to the ORGANIC BOHO style picture. I've been cherry-picking accessories to make the current traditional pieces I own feel more laid back and cozy! Great video, Steffi!
Love your videos, I've been following you for a long time... I think my home "told me" it wanted to be eclectic industrial... I'm so happy how it has slowly evolved into that... It has terracotta tile floors, white walls, black window frames... It's warm and cozy, and I've added color, which is very me. Thank you for your insight! 😊
I love this video because I am so many people inside my mind who LOVES mind blowing rooms to live in. or, to view each day. Always look forward to your emails Steffi.
So I am a mix of Japandi and modern rustic. I have creamy white painted wood walls and floors and hopefully that style will look okay. Thanks! I just wish that I didn't love the color white so much. I have three dogs and three cats. This was an awesome video!
Hey Steffi! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience. You know, I took nearly 5 years of Interior Design for a BAF, and still haven't gotten my own personal style picked out! I guess I can say I am eclectic with a love of color and patterns - on fabrics, textiles, wall paper, and murals! I'm a bit witchy too!!
Ooh French Gothic would be fun to cover! And I recently made a dark academia video if you want to check it out: ua-cam.com/video/_UMsh31GejU/v-deo.html
Wow, some beautiful rooms in this video! My style is basically modern with a large pinch of minimalism thrown in. I don’t like too much stuff on display - just enough to feel cosy. Too many ornaments and so forth feel “suffocating”. It took me years to get my place the way I like it. Now my home is my haven.
Steffi, I love your videos and totally relate to the aesthetic firehose! Quick question, do you use AI-generated images or are these photos of real spaces? (No judgment; I know a lot of creators are using AI, but it always makes me kind of sad since the rooms don't actually exist--kind of perpetuates an unattainable goal)
I do use AI images in my videos nowadays. 😊 I understand what you mean, but here's the way I see it: the images are not unattainable, they're actually very useful for creating a vision that you might not find anywhere else. With each AI image, you can find items that look like any of the items pictured, just like with a photo of a real life room. Real life images and AI images have the same effect; they're visual inspiration to help you craft your own space. Would you want to buy the exact objects in someone else's home anyway? Probably not. And they're often not even available to buy anyway. For example, so much of the decor in my own apartment can't be purchased because I've had it for years. It's no longer available. So real life spaces and AI spaces are just about equally unattainable when it comes to actually buying things. Plus, the AI tool I use, MidJourney, is fast becoming a commonly used tool by interior designers to help communicate a design with clients. So it's already starting to become kind of a tool of the trade. And finally, probably the biggest reason why I use AI images now: it is incredibly hard to find copyright-free images, especially in the super-specific styles I talk about. Using Pinterest and other peoples' IG images would technically fall under Fair Use, but it's a slippery slope and I don't ever want to feel like I'm stealing other peoples' images to benefit my videos. I will here and there when it feels appropriate (like when I'm specifically shouting people out and recommending you go follow them), but AI has become such an awesome way to visually demonstrate what I'm talking about without the stress. Haha didn't mean for this to turn into an essay. But it's something I've thought a lot about, to be honest! It's a pretty interesting discussion we're having to work through as a society these days. 😊
I've loved eclectic style for years in both decor and many of my clothing choices. I get so excited to see pieces from different eras and differing patterns that don't match at all, but seem to perfectly 'go' together. I love perfect imperfection! But watching your video, I believe that for my bedroom, I want to work on an organic boho style. Your image inspired me and I thought it looked like such a beautiful, calming place to be. Have to wait though, I should be sleeping now. Guess my eclectic room isn't helping me to relax late at night!
I think I'm a mix of several together. I like dark academia, but my home is a mix of traditional, french country....light academia. I'm trending toward old English Manor though. I've been through several phases, depending where I was in life. I'm 66 now and just really like old world warm and cozy.
Thank you for this video, i like all the styles but witchy (and whimsigoth) draw me the most. The Canva mock-up idea is great, would you consider doing a how-to video, pretty please, i watch beginner canva videos but they cover basics and not seen anything like a mock-up. Keep up the great work!
Looking around the apartment where I've lived for over 30 years, it appears my style is a mix of dark academia and cottagecore with a dash of coastal living.
Love this video and I love how your place is evolving. Thank you for being vulnerable along the way of your style journey. Looking at other comments it seems like many people are an amalgamation of styles. I am organic boho with a bit of light academia and grandmillennial. Could you do a video about how to meld a few styles together? Thanks ~
I actually did a video on mixing styles a while back! I'll probably do another updated one at some point, but in the meantime here's the one I did a little over a year ago: ua-cam.com/video/wCO17e1QbPg/v-deo.html
What's funny for me is that my interior design and the way I dress so unaligned. 😂 I prefer wearing dark colors, mostly burgundy, black, gray, and sometimes I surprise people and throw in a splash of unexpected color. However, I prefer to live in light, neutral spaces with splashes of color. I don't like my living space to feel overly dark and moody because I find that it does have an effect on my actual mood even though I do like dark and moody colors. Any dark and moody colors I bring into my space are usually in the form of textiles for the cooler seasons. In the fall and winter after Halloween has passed, I like to use deep burnt orange, olive green, etc., to reflect the season. Since I keep a pretty neutral base, this allows me to have more fun with my textiles seasonally. Plus, living in a small space dictates how much decor I have, and I'm not one for knick knacks and such. I'm not a minimalist, but I'm not a maximalist, either. I'm somewhere happily in the middle. My style is very much a blending of mid century modern and boho with a touch of witchy-ness. 😊
I'm getting my first apartment in the next coming weeks and have been so exstatic to start and this channel is a major source of the info and inspo I will use. I feel like my style is leaning towards a dark rustic/industrial. That being said, I am trying to find the image shown at 5:59 for a pinterest board but I just can't find it and pinterest recomends images that feel like AI. Does anyone know where it is or which board on Moda Misfits pinterest the image is in?
Yaaay it makes me so happy to hear that my videos are going to be helping you in your first apartment! And the image you're referring to is actually an AI image itself. You can download it here! → www.midjourney.com/jobs/7928ec35-be11-45c4-9dac-822e8f8c7d46?index=0
Haha it's a constant struggle for me too! I've learned to accept cat hair on my couch and cat litter on the floor as just part of my lifestyle. 😂 But to keep it all under control, I simply keep a dust buster, lint brush, and broom handy at all times. I wish I had a more interesting solution, but that's all there is to it!
I guess my personal style is this amalgamation of witchy aesthetics, dark academia, cottage core, and dark maximalist. I've always been drawn to darker, moodier colors and dark, warm woods. I've collected some things over the years that could be considered witchy or macabre, and my spaces are often filled with plants. I like warm, ambient lighting to give my spaces a cozy feeling. I feel very relaxed. The way I dress reflects this style, too. I switch between more feminine or more androgenous outfits depending on my mood, and I've been described by others as a stylish scientist/witch or a proper Victorian lady lol. Darker colors and dainty jewelry year-round is what you'll see me wearing, and my black hair is either wild and curly or pinned up with little in between. It's taken me years to figure out what I like, and it's taken me years to get here.
Thank you for watching! How would you describe YOUR personal interior design style?
Eclectic 😅
Eclectic, light and dark boho...I subscribed. Thank you! Your style and videos are amazing! I am so glad I found your channel! Thank you!

I am living for a dark maximalist, witchy, and eclectic home. I will achieve this someday!
You introduced me to light academia and it was a revelation. So now I'm leaning towards that aesthetic. More of that, please.
I find myself attracted to the ORGANIC BOHO style picture. I've been cherry-picking accessories to make the current traditional pieces I own feel more laid back and cozy! Great video, Steffi!
I’m in my 40s and have never found a particular style. I like them all so I just mix them together. Works for me.

Your home sounds so lovely! And I love that you "listened" to what it was telling you, haha. Sometimes that's the best place to start for inspiration!
Your wallpaper is so gorgeous! I love your style. New sub
This comes just in time for me. 💕
Super eclectic and maximalist. Moroccan and artsy..
And traditional...wowsers
All that sounds beautiful!
My style is kind of messy chaotic, Right now. But I do like country core but I also am very much into the dark academia and French country.
Sounds intriguing! That's a style I would like to see!
I feel the same!

Goth and romantic with flower canvases and antique furniture
Dark colours in the bedroom, cos I can't sleep with light colours in my bedroom
Everything I do is "witchy", cuz...just saying. 😊
Love your inspiration!❤
From Dubai you are amazing dear❤️❤️👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for the Canva mock up recommendation! Hadn't thought about that.

Dark maximalist with lots of flowers and goth canvases. My theme for my new flat is "life and death"
Loving this as I am faced with redecorating a house and I find that to be a daunting process but fun at the same time.

Dark academia in my bedroom and light academia in my living room and hallway and kitchen
I am lovin you girl!!!
I wish I knew where to find the lite up moon and stars that is GORGEOUS

@@ModaMisfit oh thank you so much ! Looking forward to more of your videos !
I’m Shabby Chic(she didn’t have a pic of it) but I’m liking the Light Academia & something about the Dark Maximalism looks classy.
Haha I almost did shabby chic! And I've thought of a few more styles I could have included since posting haha. Maybe I'll have to do a part two!
I love dark maximalist Boho

I would define mine as light academia mixed with English cottage.
I am a mix between classic parisian and maximalist
I am maximalist😅
So off topic… but how do you keep your home tidy with a kitty? I have two in my 776 ft. home and it’s a constant struggle!
Haha it's a constant struggle for me too! glam maximalism
Going by these terms I'd be: dark rustic / boho leaning towards maximalism lol
Most of the maximalism is the plants, rocks, crystals & wood. 🤔
