I'm not so sure modern "death metal" fans really understand just how much talent Chuck had. A good reference point is the way he says "Spirit crusher" It's incredibly difficult to do. Not to mention he has spider fingers with incredible reach. Amazingly talented musician.
Wow. I cant believe I never really liked them until now. So sad that Chuck passed away. He seemed like such a great person and hes so talented. Pretty handsome too. RIP Chuck
I don't listen to death metal or this band, but found this song a while back and love it, and it amazes me how he screams and plays it at the same time, it has some odd tempo and time signature changes at times.
24 didn't realize how chuck shuldiner ( aka Jesus ) could play the guitar and tell of the philosophies of deception whilst melting the faces of the crowd
What made chuck badass besides him being a legendary master guitarist and having epic brutal vocals, is the fact that he never sold out and he played because he had a passion for music and did not just do it for the money like some bands *cough cough metallica cough*
Geniuses inspire whole generations... Listen, from 02:15 - 02:40. You can listen stuff like that in lots of bands nowadays, specifically in metalcore. It´s really cool to see how a great musician like Chuck (not only because of this tiny part of this specific song) inspired many other bands, from his time until today, making Death much more than a common band, but a band who is a model to many others.
Chuck had a gift for song writing flawless lyricist superb musicianship and powerful delivery I cant explain how much his band change my perception in metal in general Death's music just make my passion for metal much bigger R.I.P. Chuck he always be missed
Small correction. TSOP was recorded before the Dynamo gig was played and recorded. THIS performance was recorded AFTER TSOP was released, but the performance ITSELF was not released until AFTER TSOP but BEFORE the Dynamo gig was RELEASED. Does that make sense?
@deathnroller, Chuck Schuldiner on guitar and vocals; Shannon Hamm on the other guitar; Scott Clendenin on bass; and Richard Christy on drums. That is the line-up which played the album "The Sound of Perseverance", the last studio release by Death.
Listen to the part where he screams "crusshhahaaaaaarrrR!!" at 1:28, 1:45, 5:02, 5:19 FUCKING HELL. Best scream I've ever heard. Boneshattering, cold, raw, inhuman :) impressive, bone shattering screams I've ever heard and that live. It's fucking sick.
life is a lesson, and lessons are just repeated through life until master them. When you die you have no more lessons, nothing more to learn on this earth. That is why Chuck died young. He masters all of life's lessons for him.
@H2Zman Chuck would probably prefer to give guitar lessons lol. There are several interviews where Chuck states that he never really liked singing on Death records too much and that when Control Denied was formed, he was relieved that he didn't have to deal with the burden or something along those lines.
yeah death was one of the influent, important even fr death and extreme metal , by their composition, and they opened the gates for many bands like origin, nile necrophagist, especially for necro, that, i find, are their direct "sons" in some kind

Richard Christy is unhumanly good on those drums..........seriously, it's unreal :o

what i'll never understand is how he can make his bends so accurate at fret 24. dude's inhuman!!!!
24 didn't realize how chuck shuldiner ( aka Jesus ) could play the guitar and tell of the philosophies of deception whilst melting the faces of the crowd
He uses some kind of screaming vocals, which is mostly used in black metal actually...(capitan obvious mode on XDDDD)
But yet made guttural vocals huge in death metal
That ‘oh yeah’ at the very end lol

Lucky enough to see Death back in 1992 in ireland. One of the best metal gigs Ive been to. Crowd of proberly 150.
Don't know what it is about his vocal, but i love it. It's so god damn honest and you can hear it. I love that.
This song has helped me heal from a having an ex gf who was a covert narcissist. Thank you Chuck ❤
What made chuck badass besides him being a legendary master guitarist and having epic brutal vocals, is the fact that he never sold out and he played because he had a passion for music and did not just do it for the money like some bands *cough cough metallica cough*

life is a lesson, and lessons are just repeated through life until master them. When you die you have no more lessons, nothing more to learn on this earth. That is why Chuck died young. He masters all of life's lessons for him.
