I managed to snag a kickstarter edition second printing a few years back. I then purchased all three expansions separately and backed the Journey's End expansion only (not the Ultimate Edition). I have the same cloth bags that come with the Ultimate Edition and I tossed the insert in favour of a plano box with appropriate sized plastic bags for cards. It actually works really well. The only thing I really wish I had is the new board. That crease is kind of ugly, but it's not a deal breaker.
Yeah, I did the same thing... so I basically have the same components you have. The new board would be nice, but yeah... definitely not a deal-breaker.
I backed Ultimate edition (never played prior) off of Zee's recommendation and love it. Only big struggle I had was the rulebook learning like he said.
Yeah, I bought the 2nd Edition a few years back and have slowly upgraded to the Ultimate Edition by buying everything slowly over time. lol I bought the mini expansions, then I bought the bigger box, I bought the cloth bags (and cloth map, but the map is crap), then the Journey's End expansion. lol In the end, I have the Ultimate Edition, but I took the long, slow route. ;-) Still one of my favorite solo-only games. (Yeah, I know there is a co-op mode, but does anyone really play that way?) I still need to try that competitive module at least once.
So I got my copy during the Kickstarter for the first expansion, and it is slightly different than the first printing Zee showed. It’s the same rectangular box, but the insert now has deeper card wells that cut into the main well, so you can remove the cards easier. The game board also has a different fold, and doesn’t have the creases in it.
I also got a rectangular box, but mine doesn't have the competitive mode with the extra ships. It really gets quite difficult to find out which edition you have...
@@MichaelM-ev9ek The competitive mode is part of expansion 4. Simply put: there were four kickstarters and each was a different printing. Kickstarter 1 is what Zee shows. Kicksater 2 is for expansion 1 and the insert/board changes I mentioned. Kisckstarter 3 was for expansions 2 and 3, and had the square box and insert. Kickstarter 4 is for expansion 4, and the Ultimate Edition. The Ultimate Edition is the only printing had had the expansions included in the box. Every other printing they were sold separately.
There is a more recent printing of the regular (non-ultimate) 2nd edition that comes in the square box and the crease-less board. Looks like the only thing I am missing with that is the expansions, right?
Oh weird. I only have the base game, but it came in that larger box. Ordered it off Amazon, not sure how that happened, but I guess now I don't have to worry about everything fitting in one box
I can imagine they did it because they were switching to the ultimates square box anyway and maybe with a thoughts of fitting the exapansions into the bigger base game box.
I just found a used copy of Ultimate Edition unpunched, for $15. I'm hyped!
Absolutely loving my ultimate edition that just came in the other day. Nemo's War is the right amount of difficult, but not impossible to win.

I never played the older version, but I backed the Ultimate Edition and absolutely love it.

Yeah, there is the big Journey's End expansion and then there are a few very small expansions.

The first edition was the smaller box, the later edition switched to the bigger box, Zee said as much.
I can imagine they did it because they were switching to the ultimates square box anyway and maybe with a thoughts of fitting the exapansions into the bigger base game box.
Sleeve cards don't fit in the new box.

One thing I think they missed is that the notoriety track does not have the loss conditions for the expansion motives listed on it
