Im surprised how decent that sounds for $5. And able to get locally at 5 Below and not take forever via aliexpress is a positive. May pick up a couple after the holidays to have on hand to give to people.
Yeah, I would definitely use noise removal since condensers pick up everything. Maybe a little equalization as well, though it's not as necessary as when I use my main lapel mic. If you didn't already know, Five Below also has a $10 USB mic kit that comes with accessories like a shock mount, pop filter, and tripod. They even have an adjustable desktop mic stand (though it's being sold as a phone stand). They're really upping their game on the audio gear front.
I was pretty surprised when I saw this mic. I totally expected them to double down on the Bugha merch, but it looks like they're stocking even more related stuff now. I just grabbed some Bluetooth gaming earbuds to review.
Does your computer have two audio ports (one for mic, one for headphones) or one (a combo of mic and headphones)? If you have the single port that is meant for both your mic and headphones you'll need to use an adapter like I mentioned in the video. The adapter is called a "combo audio adapter".
Strange. Assuming you're plugging it into the proper port (I've mixed them up on poorly labeled computers before), there's a chance you got a faulty mic. That happens from time to time. Fortunately Five Below has a great return policy.
@@joshvue2187 oh Idk I haven't got it yet. There's a cheap usb mic on amazon that sounds good but if the room isn't dead silent you will get everything.
I don’t get what kind of mics people get because the sill sounds 100x better than the mics that people on Xbox and ps4 have lol. Where do they find them?!
So if my laptop only has a combo jack it will not receive any input at all from the mic unless I have an adapter? Did I catch that correctly? Because right now, no sound is registering when I plug it directly into the combo jack port.
Correct. You'll need a combo audio adapter, but fortunately they're pretty cheap. Just make sure you get the one that splits the combo port into a mic port and a headphone port and not just a headphone splitter cable that gives you two headphone ports. They look very similar, and some sellers call both of those "Y" cables.
if only it was a usb connecter not a headphone jack cus my headphone jack doesn’t work sadly :( but I did get the 10$ pop filter mic from five below it sounds really good
I use Audacity for all of my raw audio tweaking. It's free and moderately powerful, so it's great for people with little to no experience with audio editing. If you need more power you could try Reaper. It's technically not free, but last time I checked they had a very generous demo. It's basically the WinRAR of audio editing, since it gives you the full version and then asks you to register every time you launch it after the demo.
Bought this mic to try it out but it sounds way worse for me, very tinny sound and a constant hum probably coming from my motherboard. Not sure how I can get it close to yours Cly but I'd appreciate some ideas!
The sound card it's plugged into definitely affects the final audio. I have a few spare computers laying around (mostly from thrift stores and the trash), and a couple sounded just like what you described. You might want to look into an external sound card if you're planning on plugging analog mics in. Nothing expensive or fancy, just a $5-10 model should help out.
@@ClyFaker That's interesting to know! I plugged this mic into my modern laptop and it sounds quite noisy from the background there. But on my desktop PC, the Windows Sound settings has an option for Noise Cancellation and switching it on really helps get rid of background noise. The option comes from my Realtek sound chip built into the desktop. My laptop also has Realtek audio but it doesn't have that noise cancellation option. On my laptop, while the direct recording sounds bad inside Audacity, in Discord there is no background noise and my voice sounds good. Not as good as in this video, but just fine for voice chat. I wonder if Discord has some special technology it's using. Also I wonder if setting the mic to line in will cause it to be quiet. I noticed for me, this mic is very quiet unless mic boost is up so I wonder if somebody has to turn up their mic boost but doesn't know. By default my mic boost is all the way up on my laptop but all the way off on my desktop.
You might be thinking of a combo audio adapter. This mic is designed to work with PC sound cards that have a dedicated mic port. In the case of phones and computers that have a combined mic and headphone port you'll need that adapter. That adapter is also needed to get it working with some consoles.
The mic is plug-in powered (aka "bias powered"), so it needs 1.5-5v of power supplied by the jack you have it plugged into. Most interfaces don't have powered jacks (phantom power is something entirely different), so this won't usually work with them. There are adapters out there that will provide the needed power either from a battery or by converting phantom power to plug-in power though.
Hey i have that mic but i dont know whats the best sound setting or sound properties for it on my pc to make it sound good like microphone volume and volume boost for discord
Each sound card is different for volume, but for sound quality Is suggested say least 48kHz 16bit. After that, just try to make it so that you don't have to be right on top of the mic for it to pick you up while also not being sensitive enough to clip or hurt the ears of the others in voice chat.
Yes. I think I read that the XBOX One uses a headset connector that has the mic and headphones plug into the same port. If so, you'll need an adapter for a mic, but headphones will work fine without one.
The main problem people are running into with this mic is the fact that it is made with computers that have a dedicated mic port in mind. If you are plugging this into a computer with a single port that handles both your mic and headphones you'll need an adapter called a "combo audio adapter". You'll need the same adapter when using it with most consoles and mobile devices (which might also need an additional adapter since many phones don't have an audio port these days). You can find combo audio adapters online for pretty cheap.

@@ClyFaker yeah I could see that cuz you didn’t really make the idea of needing an adapter stand out that much since most of the vid was a comparison and details about the mic. But that’s ok :)

If your laptop only has only one 3.5mm jack (instead of one for headphones and another for a mic) then you're right. If you do have two ports but the computer isn't detecting the mic you might have issue with either the mic or your sound card.
If you're trying to use this mic with a phone/tablet or a computer that uses a single port for both the mic and the headphones you will need the adapter.

To get this working with a PS4 you'll need what's called a "combo audio adapter". This adapter will let you hook up both a mic and headphones to your controller. The mic's connector doesn't touch the correct pins in the audio port without it.
depending on what device you use it on you need a splitter for your headphones and microphone, but if you are on PC you can find a mic jack on the front of your case and you can use that to plug your mic into (or you can plug it into the back of your motherboard) , and if you have a laptop you will most likely need a splitter
If the device you want to use it with has two audio ports (one for headphones and one for microphones) just plug it into the mic port and you're good to go. If your device only has a single port that handles both headphones output and mic input (some computers and phones as well as most consoles do this) you'll need what's called a "combo audio adapter". If you're planning to use this with a phone that doesn't have an audio port, you'll also need the headphone adapter for your device and most likely a combo audio adapter.
For consoles (and some computers) you'll need what's called a "combo audio adapter". Plug the mic into the adapter and the adapter into the headset port on the controller or console.
Anywhere that sells headphones should have them. Just make sure not to buy a headphone splitter instead since they look similar. Also, the Bugha headset at Five Below comes with one. Sadly the cheaper headsets come with the opposite style adapter that won't work the way you need it to.
The first product that came up when I plugged that into Google looks correct. As long as there are two ports (one for the mic and one for headphones) leading to a single jack you should be good.
The adapters included in the $5 headset and gaming earbuds are the opposite of what they need. The Bugha gaming headset comes with the correct adapter though.
The base on the newer version seems to, but not this one. The one in this video is the 2020 model (you can find the year on the bottom of the box), and when I remove the base plate from the stand I can see all of the contours.
