FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh announces bust of an illegal lithium-ion battery manufacturer

On Tuesday, February 6, the Lithium-Ion Task Force, comprised of Fire Marshals, the Bureau of Fire Prevention, and the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, inspected Wilson Scooters located at 101-19 Queens Boulevard in Queens. The teams found illegal, alarming conditions. The shop was repairing and building their own battery packs from individual lithium-ion battery cells. In addition, the business was manufacturing their own devices.
As firefighters removed the lithium-ion batteries, some began to fail and ignite and had to be extinguished. Multiple fines and violations were issued at this business.

Well done FDNY and associates, I have seen many videos from Fire Buffs who have videod the fires and headed their video's with a description of the fire and most have been through Li batteries, lets hope that the this is the start of the clamp down and keep members of the public and most of all the FDNY members, Stay Safe

Thank you for your efforts. You are a great inspiration to all of the young woman in the city and throughout the country for your fantastic handling of the Lithium Ion battery problem as well as your direction of the greatest fire department in the world. I grew up in Brooklyn and Queens only leaving after college. I love the city and hope you can continue to safeguard all of the citizens and visitors.
