I watch a lot of UA-cam mostly because I’m laid up waiting for hip replacement. Something I enjoy about your channel is the great music. It actually adds and does not subtract from the vids. A lot of channel’s music becomes very annoying very quickly. You are an excellent host and your work mates as well. Look forward to future vids. Peace out! 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Good morning fellas, I’m an adult apprentice from Melbourne Australia, I watch your show and I’m inspired on the information, work ethics and tools you show. Going through my books from school, I’m happy see your work practices comply with aus/nz standards, and it’s interesting too see the quality work you show us. I appreciate the effort you made doing these mini shows, stay safe and happy days ahead! Regards, Johnny
I'm new to your channel after searching for deck building videos. Jumped on this one and see you walk past my dirty ol hedge. Great videos with enough info for me to figure things out.....also, that's easily the best pie shop in town.
I'm a Kiwi in Canada and the trades are more divided. I'm a carpenter, and I do the framing, which is actually building the house. The concrete foundations are done by a "cribbing" crew. After electrical and plumbing, the insulators come in. Then the drywallers (gib board). They are often divided into 2 crews, being the installers and the "mudders" (plasterers). Kitchen/bathroom cabinets are a separate crew again. Then there is the finishing carpenters who install the bedroom doors, all the baseboards & trimwork, closet shelving etc. And if hardwood floors are been installed, that's a different guy again. I can do all carpentry, framing finishing and hardwood, but when doing a whole house I'm just framing.
Don't have Steak and Cheese pie's in the UK! Plenty of Steak and Ale pie but S&C! Just googling a recipe now, perhaps you and Jess could do a smoko time recipe for chippys in need of S&C in the UK?
In Texas, a contractor that does it all, (concrete, drywall, rough and trim carpentry) is typically called a general contractor. If you are doing a job where you cant do one of the trades like plumbing, that trade is subcontracted out under your contract, but the rest of the work is self-performed and you are a general contractor. There are specialty contractors like a drywall contractor who might do framing too but they don't typically do trim, mud, and painting, those are all specialty contractors. The bigger builders and general contractors don't perform any of the work and they sub it all out and have a separate contractor for each of these trades, concrete, plumbing, electrical, framing, roofing, drywall, painting, trim. (included cabinets), carpet and masonry...etc. Typically the general contractors that do self-perform are smaller contractors that do high-end work and only one or two houses at a time. That is me, I am a specialty contractor, I do electrical work. I can finish concrete, frame, trim, lay tile, or just about anything but the money is in just sticking to my trade. The truth is my first love it woodwork but carpenters make a lot less than electricians.
Ive gone full circle UK based. Started doing carpentry and cabinet making cut trees for 5 years and doing building on off. Now back to carpentry and building, I forget how many tools I need van is full all the time.
Company I’m with on the east coast of Canada does the same thing with the exception of pouring foundations for new home builds. And we only do residential work lol. Awesome videos man, I watch every one!
Here in the north of England me and my dad do everything from foundations to roofing on our smaller domestic jobs, but are finding on the slightly bigger jobs we’re having to divide the work up. Loving the channel, like your way of working similar to mine just wish some of the old boys would be a bit more open minded like you.
I assume you are young since you work with your father. I would suggest that you go and learn to do detailed woodwork such as cabinet making or furniture making. If you did a night course it would not take you very long to learn as you already are in trade. The real money to be made in the UK will come from high end jobs such as building and installing bespoke kitchens, fitted furniture and finish carpentry. The UK construction industry is being hemmed in by the lack of real home building which has been stagnant since the 1970s. You do not need to do it over night but could achieve it over a ten year period. If you are in your 40s you potentially still have a good 30 years of work ahead of you. My grandfather worked to he was near 90. I will be luck if I last that long.
Im an carpenter from norway . We have the same system in norway we also do almost anything. I also run a company like your we are 2 guys also. ITS fun to SEE that is so Much the same on the other side of the world . Keep up the good work with your videos. I enjoying your videos.
Im a carpenter in the Netherlands we do the same. From founding to finish and maintnence.but depends whitch company you work.some only specialize in a particalar job. Like concrete or framing
Hi Scott great videos been watching them for a while now. I'm a jobbing builder in wales uk and as a small company we have to do all aspects of building but I can safelt say for sure it never gets boring.
I also use all makita tools but then have a couple dewalt drop saws 10 inch all the way to the biggest duel bevel compound miter saw and then my table saw is makita tho
I like that your tool-guy has an Engelbert Strauss jacket. Here in germany you can't go to a construction site without at least a handful of guys wearing Strauss clothing... We call it Baustellen-Prada (construction site prada)
Got me subscribed! I come from Brazil and I've been an English teacher long enough and now made up my mind to leave and live either Canada or new Zealand! Where and which Carpentry apprenticeship schools would you guys suggest? Is that the same as in the US and Canada, I mean, into high school? Thanks!
Mate just wanna say your channel is bloody great!! Was wondering could you do how to do architraves and skirting in detail if you can that would help alot cheers !!
I noticed the exhaust port on your DeWalt drop saw comes out of the top behind the motor, not from the back end of the slides. Did you customize that? I've noticed that small bonnet in back of the saw blade will shut under heavy vacuum, so I've put tape on it to stiffen it up. Just wondering if your short-cutting the exhaust tube helps dust collection.
Finally, I can subscribe a New Zealand builder Chanel!😭😭😭(not USA anymore). good job mate! Keep posting more videos please!👍👍👍I have been checking the website of the tool company. It is good to know they come here. I will ring them tomorrow!🤤🤤🤤
Scott Brown Carpentry do you find the kneepads stay in the correct position? As I have a pair of “Hard yakka” pants and find the kneepads move around and don’t always sit correctly
How good is that bakery bro! My local. Ps binging your vids, 8 months into the trade thus far and finding these quite motivational/informative. Big ups.
Interesting, I'm from Australia and now in Belgium and have built in France seems more Nd more that you need to be a jack of all trades as more go into the service economy, you cant really afford to specialise too much as you might of done in the days of the guilds
Scruffs have some nice gear. I like the switchback boots. Enjoy the vids mate. Have you thought of contacting someone like BCITO, i reckon they should pay you to make videos for new apprentices, reckon they need to update the way the run them with a more modern approach.
Can somebody tell something about these construction jobs? Im 30 and thinking of getting into construction because im sick of graphic design. I hope im not making a life mistake or something like that.
Hi, your comment that Kiwi builders did everything from concreting to finishing really caught my attention. My father-in-law was also a builder from Napier/Hastings and even toward retirement he still did just about everything, only leaving the pouring and placement of concrete to others; but he still looked after the boxing etc. We always assumed it was because he liked to just work by himself; that he was really old school, and that it was a hung over from growing up mixing concrete and helping his dad build bridges around Napier. It also explains why he fixed the plasterboard and cornice himself, even if he left the setting, topping and finishing to others. Over here we seem to have so many different construction trades focusing on small parts of the industry. Thanks for the insight.
I have been making & selling pies for 40 years ... now changing the look of the store using many of your ideas. Love the Videos, comments ( I seem to enjoy all the humor ), music, & the casual way you do such good work. I guess the steak & cheese got me typing here 😎😎
All the tradies shit on about each other, but I say this as a man who makes aluminium joinery, everything just revolves around the builders at the core. Builders used to do every trade back in the strictly timber days and that's slowly been pared back. They're still the main event, even if they are brutes 😁
That's why Kiwi builders are so sought after overseas we ground up builders. Do the job start to finish.... on the subject of tools do you have much experience with the Dewalt battery operated nailing gun ? . thinking of buying one wondering how they operate from people that actually use them. (This question is open to your subscribers to you answer to) and Hahaha tool porn ....😁 So Funny
Heavy but faster and more consistent than your paslode in my experience. However, I hear the hitachi outperforms the dewalt may wantto look into that aslo.
My boss bought a hitachi 18v framer and it kicks butt. More power than the air guns, smashes nails into hard kapur glulams with ease. He liked it so much we bought another one a couple of weeks ago. Only thing is the weight of the gun itself.
Hitachi make fantastic tools but are placed all wrong in the marketplace and not correctly priced. They will for example have fantastic motors but very poor accessors such as on their router punges. There tools are too cheaply priced which means they are talking shortcuts on certain fittings which then has an affect on their overall quality.

Woah, quite different to what I am used to here, but I feel we are moving more and more in that direction
Right now I'm doing concrete work commercially but as a labor trying to start an apprenticeship. Hopefully soon.

FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR!! I haven’t heard that in years! Awesome
Your Toyota Van has the slider doors on both sides. I have never seen any brand of van here in the states that has a slider door on each side.

bighands69 Work til 90, no chance, no time to enjoy life
I’m from England, what collage course do you do to get into this sort of carpentry ?
Joe Sheppard Do an NVQ L3 in Carpentry and Site Joinery
bighand69 you should get into yachts, I did the etched glass and ‘art’. One job would basically pay my whole years bills etc.

Those subs are climbing fast. Looks like you are heading towards experiential growth. Very informative !
More humble than any carpenter in AUS and far far more skilled

Are you able to do a tutorial on forming the valley's on a pitched roof. Love the channel.
Those loops in the pencil pocket are there so you can reach your pencil easier when its all worn out and short👍🏻
ahhh makes sense
I worked at the hanford plant as a draftsman, engineers, general foremen, foremen, laborers , iron workers..carpenters.
In norway all carpenters USE this pants . My experience is They last for arround 1year of heavy work. We have also much heavy weather.
What's a good brand of pants? Wouldn't mind investing in some
Is it a builders job to get council consents for things like concrete foundations, for house or deck , building a garage , or a retaining wall??
I noticed the exhaust port on your DeWalt drop saw comes out of the top behind the motor, not from the back end of the slides. Did you customize that? I've noticed that small bonnet in back of the saw blade will shut under heavy vacuum, so I've put tape on it to stiffen it up. Just wondering if your short-cutting the exhaust tube helps dust collection.
I'd hate to come back and remodel your baseboards, you glued the hell out of it
Ha! I see your drop saw stand clamps broke too. DeWalt needs to figure this shit out and send us all a newly designed set of clamps that work.

The movie was “The Nagigator”
How old are you now Scott
I have been making & selling pies for 40 years ... now changing the look of the store using many of your ideas.
