Great piece of kit and very easy to use compared to alot of mini studios and the sound is great i have my boss katana through it and plugged into either headphones or old technics amp and the reverb on it is brilliant for metal or clean.i also have an old keyboard plugged into it that i use for drums.
Thank you, this is helpful. I probably want one of the bigger units with 12/16/32 channels. Ideally, I want to record MIDI too but having just moved from a Mac Mini with Logic 9 to a Macbook with Logic X I no longer enjoy using a DAW or a computer to record my music.
You should get the DP-24 or DP-32. They're the next two larger units in this DP line. I have this 03 and the DP-24. The DP-24 has a learning curve and a lot more under the hood. It's a nice sounding all in one studio. This DP-03 is great too!! Happy recording ✌

Hi..I have a question to ask you . I currently own a Tascam DP008ex ..great little machine and is the baby brother of the 03 sd ...but it has a problem that is irritating me . I use a condenser mic with phantom power ..which I leave plugged in . I also have a stereo keyboard with the two ( left & right ) channels plugged into the line in sockets ..but the problem is that if I want to record a vocal part ( using my condenser mic ) I have to unplug the keyboard line in jack(s) ? It will NOT let me leave the cables permanently connected ..This is driving me nuts having to unplug them every time ...( it's only a matter of time till one of the jacks break ) Does your Tascam DP03sd have this problem ? Thanks .

I'm not familiar with this unit but if I was you I would take a close look at the settings you have on the mastering effects. Is it a limiter you're using, or some other compression type effect? Those usually have some kind of output level. Anyway, that's just a guess. Good luck. Maybe there's a tascam recording forum on the web where you could ask.
I recorded on the track 1. I wanted to redo it , ( a second take) but I cant' erase the first track. The button UNDO/REDO tells me that there no history. So, How can I simply erase a track.

Are you using the inputs correctly? Use input A to record on tracks 1,3,5 and 7. And Input B to record on tracks 2, 4, 6 and 8. Also press the Assign button to see where the inputs are routed, A or B.
Thank you for the review. I was tempted to get one as an alternative to my Zoom R24, but the Tascam 8-track is so lacking in features. No drum patterns, and little in the way of effects for guitars, etc. I'd advise people to save up and by a Zoom R24 - twice the price, but a far, far better home multitrack.

Go for it! I realised the safety blanket of always being able to 'fix it in post' was having a negative effect on my actual playing and recording!

Is the other end of that yellow cable literally into the guitar? If so, the Tascam unit is “amping” the guitar?

I have the older DP-03 which is portable (with battery station)
Can I use the xlr inputs to plug my left / right main out channels into them

why this is 8 channels recorder? It only has 4 input, I think they are all mono?
It is a 8 track recorder with bouncing options and yes using mono connections
OK, so HOW do you get the unit, to playback a demo, that is just recorded, but after power shut-down??

Go to menu. Find track edit. Go to clean out track. Select track 1 .

I have one of these and a Zoom R20 16-track. I much prefer the Tascam. I never use the built in rhythms on the zoom as they’re a bit rubbish.
