Great find, great restoration job, and we split wood here with the wood splitter and the ole back ain't what it used to be but that thing sure saves me from bending over, and it also makes a good reach for dragging some wood off the truck or from the top of the pile. Thanks for sharing!
This one's proper name is "hookaroon" even though currently used with "pickaroon" interchangeably. SooLine logging tools were not related to the railroad company which shared the same name. It was a logging tool line by Canadian Logging Tools in St. Catherines, Ontario Canada and later merged with Canadian Warren Pink which also made axes. This hookaroon head was casted as well as peaveys, cants with raised brand name,
Recently found a sooline head like that at an auction. it was buried in a bucket of rusty bolts. I picked up 14 such buckets for free as no one wanted them. my pickaroon is nearly restored!
Greetings, I am a baby llama sent by my llama king Omm! Great video and thus you have gained a baby llama into your subscriber pool 😂 looking forward to the next vid!
Try some abrasive flap discs on your angle grinder. They work superbly, much better than the usual "rocks". 60 grit is a good start and as they wear they get smoother. Terrific for sharpening too. Small abrasive flap wheels work well in holes hence their use porting cylinder heads.
Nice cleanup job man. Just an extra tip if you didn't already know it. You could clean out the inside of a head like that with a small wire brush drill bit. Works great. And you get them in all sorts of shapes and sizes. If you buy a set though, just make sure you don't buy one of those cheap ass sets. After a couple of uses, they turn into little wire launching missile turrets. O.o
Yeah I have a feeling I'll be re-doing this one soon, I don't have any smaller brushes for the drill but should have a few around for sure! (And one thing I ALWAYS wear safety glasses for is wire wheels. I've had little wires stick straight into the tip of my nose before! lol! They don't tickle!)
Haha! Don't I know it. And your brave to be using a baby grinder with a wire brush disc. I always used a bench grinder with the wire disk on the one side. Nice thing about that is you can attach a Perspex shield to it. So anything shoots off, it won't hit you anywhere in the face. Lol! Although I've taken some skin off my hands with those from bad grip.
Yeah I hold em' tight, and also you'll notice welding gloves lol. I have also had a good "skinning" from these, I worked in a weld/machine shop out of highschool - spent days on end with a 7" grinder cleaning up parts. I've seen cutting wheels grenade and stick into the wall 100ft away rofl.
Lumberjack Outdoors Lol! Yeh man. A lot of dangerous jobs out there. My first job out of school I got squash under one of those old refrigerators while talking down some stairs.

In the railroad track crews that's called a tie pick it was for moving ties around

Soo Line is a railroad, this is likely one of their tools for working with ties.

I think all factory pickaroons are pot metal casting,
