personally i don't really get the complaints about the survival mechanics being too intrusive. not only can you stock up on supplies before heading out to a new area, but said area almost always has a variety of facilities specifically designed to cater to said mechanics; i.e. there's always vending machines with food and drinks, bathrooms with toilets, and sinks / toilets / fountains with water to clean yourself

Zomboid being a game that skill checks you constantly and will punish you severely when you fail it, lol. Unlike this game where death fixes all problems with the minor inconvenience of walking over to your bag.

3:14:55 A large part of why I'm enjoying watching is because it's enjoysble to see Vin's immersement or entrallment towards any game. Sometimes it's nice to sit back and enjoy the story/ gameplay with more concentration.
The problem with the game isn't that it has survival mechanics (that's the point of the game) the problem is that it's too generous with respawns and your character is too flimsy. It's too "Planetside" eqsue where dying is just a mechanic.
Oh boy, the return of: Vinny plays an open world co-op multiplayer survival game with a group of people and then runs off on his own and gets himself killed over and over again because he main characters and has poor communication/teamwork skills. And then while he's alone he misses out on the collective knowledge and advice and assistance of other players, dies a bunch and spends a ton of time retrieving his lost items, and his level stagnates while everyone else power levels together.
To be fair to Vinny, he tried multiple times to get people to join him for exploration or recovery and was shot down or ignored for most of those. It seems that everyone alternated between groups and solo regularly, and Vinny was just out of phase with that cycle.
My favorite is the "my legs are broken again" every time he breaks a leg, after doing absolutely nothing to try and avoid breaking his legs. It's almost like he deliberately tries to break his legs all the time.
its a genuine criticism of the genre. the fun is in building systems to keep a bar from going red, and once you solve that the game is basically over. very few games manage to make survival mechanics into meaningful progression.
@@entryplugged2068 survival mechanics aren't there to be part of a meaningful progression, they are there to induce fear in the early game and discourage cockiness in the late game
It does appear to be a problem with this game because it seems to be much easier, and resource efficient, to just off yourself and respawn rather than engage with the survival mechanics.
None of you actually sit down and pay attention while watching this, right? I personally just play it in the background because it's the ambience is cozy and literally nothing is happening and when I come back everyone once in a while he's either drifting off by himself and dying or trying to craft a splint for his broken leg I couldn't imagine watching this because of the game
Nothing like watching Vinny be the most scatter brained streamer on twitch. Everyone is crafting cool stuff and progressing and he's just running around repairing his knife and every now and then scrolling through the crafting table at light speed not even absorbing what hes looking at. Or he's frustratingly talking about needing power cells and then staring at one on a desk for like 3 minutes straight and not even registering its there
In regards to the convo near the end about survival/crafting mechanics, my main gripe is how often those mechanics are added simply for the sake of having them, they just end up being unnecessary upkeep and don't usually add anything to the gameplay, they just keep power flowing to the treadmill. Like, I can't tell you how many times I've passed on a game where the starting condition is something along the lines of "punch rocks, chop trees, and roast lizards for a few dozen hours and then you get to make/do something cool" because I've done it a thousand times before A lot of those mechanics are holdovers from way back when survival-crafting games were new and everyone was riding the high of simply being able to _make_ things in a video game, but over time, most implementations have really just devolved into busy work. Like, I'd much rather play a game about being an astronaut stranded on an alien planet where my character just has a high-tech suit that provides infinite sustenance if it meant that the actual gameplay had more focus and intent. You want me to investigate nearby distress beacons and scavenge for parts? Fine, but let me come out the other side of it with a noteworthy equipment upgrade that continues to be useful for the remainder of the game or a memorable exploration/survival/horror experience rather than just finding some scrap metal or a blueprint for a space canteen that holds 4 sips of space water The genre could really do with a refresher on what actually makes for a compelling gameplay experience, imo
If your main complaint about a genre is whining about a key element of said genre, it clearly isn't for you. The ego and narcissism in thinking an entire genre needs to change to suit your whims, lol.
I think a lot of it is a streaming problem maybe. Like they can't or don't want to take the five minutes to think and learn the game and the time to take to actually make sure they have the resources they need.
