It's a pleasure and an honour to listen to any of the SAS as guests on a podcast. But given the choice, Krishna Thapa would be my next pick. 7 yrs in the Gurkhas, then 17 yrs in the SAS where he rose to the rank of Warrant Offiicer. He also became the first serving officer to summit Everest and K2. The full list of his achievements in the SAS and as a mountaineering specialist is endless. IMO, you couldn't find a clearer example of what a 'Gray man' looks like. If you were queuing at the till in a supermarket, and Krishna Thapa was behind you, you'd look round at him and he'd smile at you in acknowledgement. Not for one moment would you imagine that you're in the presence of one of our finest who's idea of an early morning exercise is something really easy, like climbing K2. The infamous "Savage Mountain" where statistically 25 out of every 100 climbers who set off, never return. He's a truly amazing human being.

There is a specific context and usage for 'officer' in the British Army. A Warrant Officer is not an officer, don't go by the name in the rank. 'Officer' specifically refers to a commissioned rank. Warrant Officers are non-commissioned ranks.
