- In this video of Living the Jo Life, we have a crazy night out at the BALAD BEAST Music Festival in Al Balad, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A large section of Al Balad was blocked off for this event, which featured five stages with DJs playing techno, R&B, hip hop, pop and indie music, live performances and various kinds of entertainment. This World Heritage Site used to be the gateway to Makkah for Muslim pilgrims arriving by sea, but it was completely transformed for two nights into an open-air nightclub with lots of young people having fun and dancing. Al Balad is known for its historic buildings, often built of coralstone with colored wooden bay windows and balconies (rawashin) dating back more than 400 years. The old historic buildings were beautifully lit up with vibrant colorful lights and patterns. It was an amazing experience to see the old town of Jeddah come alive.

@@livingthejolife lets put things into perspective here and not mislead misguide people into thinking jeddah is now like dubai or doha in that sense, yes the saudi government is slightly modernising islamic laws rules values by allowing such events to now legally take place in saudi arabia to happen occur but the big difference is that there was NO ALCOHOL served like there would be in the west to such an event nor were the females there allowed to dress half naked nude even though just like you kylie it wasnt compulsory mandatory to cover their heads either
@@ashfrank5372 This was definitely not like festivals overseas. I wish music festivals were like this in Australia! We don't go to them because of everything you described. @@livingthejolife Yes I know that is how you all Kylie Kasper and Ella see this and I hope you all Kylie Kasper and Ella didn't misunderstand what I was saying because I know your intention wasn't to trying to show Saudi Arabia as now being western secular moderate modern westernised but others viewing this video may do so and agree that Saudi Arabia should try to be like the rest of the world in that sense and not live in the stone ages the dark ages according to them as far as they are concerned and that the Saudi government are now trying to provide social entertainment for both the Muslims and people in Saudi Arabia who are not Muslims such as yourselves but only on the condition that their Islamic values rules laws are not compromised in the process of doing so.

Wow....that's not what I expected over there. Very interesting. Cant believe all that lighting all over the buildings. They sure put a lots of work into making it into a fun and happy experience. They sure know how to impress. So many different styles of music and so nice to see all the happy smiling and laughing people out and about. Reminded me a little of a place here in Brisbane Australia called "Eat Street".. Great pity Ella wasn't there. Great job JO's showing us that fascinating place. Thank you! Definitely a different side to Saudi. The music was fantastic. It was so beautiful how they lit up the old town. It was run extremely well and so much security. We felt very safe. Everyone was just having a good time.

No more moutawa or ridiculous religious police that used to intimidate locals and foreigners alike. No more strict hijab or dress code. no more ban on music . and no more ban on women driving. etc that deserves commending.

I now specialise in offshore and island architecture. currently living here because i'm competing in a sailing race in Pittwater area. Really cool video ! I visited El ballad in januari 23. First visit to SA. It struck me how friendly and helpfull locals were. I was looking to buy Some dates, but I didn’t have any local money. Another (local) customer overheard this and simply insisted that he would pay for Some dates for me. Just like that, a present from a stranger, a local person. I was really moved by this gesture. So really nice.
