What to See and Do in Taif, Saudi Arabia: Cable Car, Toboggan, Souk, Dates, Arruddaf Park & Baboons

- In this video of Living the Jo life, we visit Taif, Saudi Arabia’s Summer Capital, named so due to its high elevation and lower temperatures. We caught the Al Hada Cable Car, also called the Telefric, which drops from about 1965 m above sea level now to 880 m elevation over a 4 km stretch and leads to the Al Kar Tourist Village, where you will find a water park and activities such as a toboggan ride. We went for an afternoon drive to Jabal Dakka in the Ash Shafa area, which is located at over 2,500 m elevation and is surrounded my green vegetation and beautiful mountainous views. At the top of the mountain, we stopped for a coffee break at the “House of Roses Resort”, where we enjoyed the cool temperatures and gorgeous views from their terrace. After checking in at our hotel, we went into Taif city, where we took in the magical atmosphere of the Gazzaz Souk. After enjoying some dates and some Arabic coffee at a lovely café, we came across some Saudi National Day celebrations. The celebrations certainly continued at Arruddaf Park, which is a lively park with entertainment, music, performances, markets, food stalls and much more. We had a fantastic time in Taif, and we can highly recommend a weekend away to Saudi Arabia’s summer capital to escape the heat and have a fun time.

As a Filipino Nurse who worked in Taif, i could say that Taif is a place to remember and lots of good memories there. I wish i could go back one day to visit my friends, workplace and favorite places there such as the cable car, Al Ruddaf park and Awaliv Hotel. Well first of all my first comment....Amazing show ....That was an amazing showing of Saudi Arabia. Who would know reading the papers and watching the news that that place is like that. The landscape is so rough but so beautiful. When you talk about the heat over there its plain to see why the Baboons have blistered bottoms. I loved that cable car ride. I would really love to go on that ride to see the view. Very interesting place to see. Thanks Jo's ..for taking us on that great Adventure...I sure will be spreading the word.

Taif can get very cold especially in winter, people over there have fireplace in their houses. People outside of Saudi Arabia don't believe me that in Saudi there are place that can be so cold like that but its a real thing and most people outside of Muslim world did not know about it . xD

Taif really changed now of course to the better about 45 years ago I used to work their specially the roads really changed. Thanks Everywhere by walk or by van and don’t remember any cablecars liked it my god what a very big change now. Thanks again.

Love this video. I lived and worked there in 200. Yes, a, few women, quietly, talked to me. In excellent English. Very friendly people. Takes me back. The souk BTW is famous for its spices. The complex with gold roofed mosque opposite where you stayed is the kings summer palace.
Fascinating fact, it's authentic : At the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him), there were only idol worshippers there. Today it's 100% muslim!
The Prophet went there to escape the persecution he was facing in Mecca and spread the message of Islam. The people of Taif mocked and ridiculed him, and on his way back they were throwing rocks at him to the point that he was bleeding, his shoes were soaked with blood.
Angel Gabriel asked him if he wanted him to destroy the city, the Prophet said no, instead he prayed to Allah and asked Him to make their offsprings muslim!

I was surprised they didn't experience trouble being women especially uncovered like they were. We won't go back because of the harassment my wife got when we traveled there and how often we/she had to fear for her safety. Or perhaps they just didn't film their harassment or deleted the videos and didn't add them in this video.

This city al taif has a story with the prophet Mohammed peace be upon him, he walked milles from mecca on foot in very hot weather reached it and to call its people to worship God alone and to abandon worshipping idols but they rejected his message and treated him with the most contemptuous and rude manner.
after big effort trying to explain to them they even refused to listen he decided to leave but they wouldn’t let him depart in peace, rather they set the street urchins after him, to hiss, to hoot, to jeer at and to stone him. He was so much pelted at with stones that his whole body was covered with blood, and his shoes were clogged to his feet.
When he was away from the town, safe from the rabble, he prayed to Allah;
“O, my Lord! To Thee I complain of the feebleness of my strength, of my lack of resources and my being unimportant in the eyes of people, O, Most Merciful of all those capable of showing mercy! Thou art the Lord of the weak, and Thou art my own Lord. To whom art Thou to entrust me; to an unsympathetic foe who would sullenly frown at me, or to an alien to whom Thou hast given control over my affairs? Not in the least do I care for anything except that I may have Thy protection for myself. I seek shelter in Your Light-the light which illuminates the Heavens and dispels all sorts of darkness, and which controls all affairs in this world as well as in the Hereafter. May it never be that I should incur Thy wrath, or that Thou should be displeased with me. To You I submit, until I earn Your pleasure and There is no strength nor power but through Thee.”
The Heavens were moved by the prayer and Jibrail (angel Gabriel the holly spirit) appeared before Muhammad ﷺ , greeting him with Assalamu'alaikum and said;
“Allah knows all that has passed between you and these people. He has deputed an angel in charge of the mountains to be at your command.”
Saying this, Jibrail (AS) ushered the angel before the Prophet ﷺ. The angel greeted him and said;
“O, Prophet of Allah! I am at your service. If you wish, I can cause the mountains overlooking this town on both sides to collide with each other, so that all the people therein would be crushed to death, or you may suggest any other punishment for them.”
Muhammad ﷺ said;
““I rather hope that Allah will raise from among their descendants people who will worship Allah the One, and will not ascribe partners to Him.”
This was the conduct of Muhammad ﷺ, whom we should all follow. He ﷺ was already given the opportunity to punish these people who have made him bleed, but instead of that his love and merciful heart shun this and chose not to give them any trouble.
After that God honnored his messenger with the great miracle of isra and miraj where he was taken to heaven

No it is not fine Allah have choosen Saudia Arabia to have Al-Kaba there and The grave of رسول الله اللهم صلي وسلم وبارك على سيدنا محمد in the Madina Al-Manoura. No way you would find special prices for locals that is deferent from the one for expats /foreigners for any product/service in Saudi, I’m absolutely sure about that, lovely video btw

One thing i see a lot of foreign tourists do is they go the places in an early time. Most Saudi people go camping early and go to the cable car and similar places at night .
We went early so we could take video of the view during the day. We wouldn't be able to see that spectacular view at night 😊
