Bitd I had a babysitter who's son had everything Star Wars and a bunch of other toys. That kid wouldn't let me play with any of his toys to the point he would throw stuff down the steps so I wouldn't be able to get anywhere near his toys. One day his dad came home and I was playing army with some sticks and stones in the driveway. He asked why I wasn't playing with his sons toys. I told him the score and he went to the kids room and grabbed the gray version of yours. I could hear the kid freaking out, crying and begging. Dad said if you don't let Lee play with your toys he is going to be going home with all of them. Dad came out and said I could have it. I grew up government cheese poor so I didn't have a lot of toys so obviously I loved that hunk of plastic. Gray with the blue cockpit "glass". It got broken when my brother stepped on it. My current one has the amber "glass". I remember seeing the line at a smaller pharmacy chain called Osco Drug.
I remember when these came out! I believe that the difference in the vehicle color had to do with available coloring or something. Perhaps it was a random redesign. They had the blue "windshields" with the Laser Force stickers at first. The red/orange windshields came out later, like a 2nd generation.
Thanks for the research! These took me a while to find. I have a piece of the back of one of the figures.. the rest was blown away or something. Dunno if we had the vehicles but I do recall that gun design. Nice that there were cheap alternatives back then that still looked plenty cool. We got a lot of mileage out of a generic F15 style jet that had similarly built plastic body (I swear stores sold it for 2 decades).
It wasn't quite the pearlized feel of the mirage or MOTU's Extendar, but you're not too terribly off; they were extremely close. I still have most of the 2 vehicles/2 figures set I got as a kid from KMart near Houston back in the '80s.
One of my favorite unsung toylines of the '80s!
