I learned in Sound recording course from University of Mumbai that Sholay was not shot in 70mm but in 35mm and then as you say it was blew up or processed to 70mm. Reminds me of something said by Kishore Kumar when he was interviewed by Lata Mangeshkar. He had said that he wanted to become a singer and not an actor because acting jhoothi hoti hai(video), sangeet dil se nikalta hai.. golden words.

You can hear the sterophonic sound when Veeru throws away the coin after Jai's death discovering both side of coin have head. We saw the movie in 35mm.
Very few 70mm prints of Sholay were released....
A very nice video on the technical aspect of film making...Since many years a movie shot on 70 mm was very much highlighted & people used to see such movies in a wide angle or in other words Cinemascope.
You have beautifully explained every aspect of 70mm in simple terms & the videos associated are self explanatry. The cost of shooting a movie on 70 mm increases the expenses of the financer / producer almost 3 times more than shooting it in regular 35mm reels.
The concept of blowing a 35 mm movie to 70 mm movie while processing the negatives was an interesting thing.

साहब जी आप ने इस वीडिओ में बताया कि 'अराउंड द वर्ल्ड 1967' भारत की पहली स्टीरियो फोनिक (जिसमे लेफ्ट और राइट दोनो स्पीकर्स में कुछ वाद्ययंत्रों की ध्वनि अलग अलग सुनाई देती है) फ़िल्म थी। मेरे पास स्टीरियो फोनिक फ़िल्म की जो भी CDs हैं उनमें 'जल बिन मछली नृत्य बिन बिजली 1970' से पहले कोई भी फ़िल्म के गीत अभी तक उपलब्ध नहीं हुए। यहाँ तक कि 'अराउंड दी वर्ल्ड 1967' के ऑडियो में भी स्टीरियो फोनिक साउंड नहीं सुनाई दी। क्या यह सम्भव है कि भारत मे इस फ़िल्म की स्टीरियो फोनिक रिकॉर्डिंग उपलब्ध न हो?

Sir, nice topic to discuss but the machine you showed in beginning is not a camera but Russian 35 mm projector. Secondly special lens is used to take film on 35 mm in which all characters are vertically long and when it is shown through projector as the one you showed in the beginning it uses the same anamorphic kens. All it is to compress the picture on 35 mm format film and them show on screen by same lens in 70 mm.

Not at all. Aspect ratio is width to height ratio. 70mm is around 3.5 times the size of 35mm. This difference in size also manifests in the aspect ratios of the formats; 35 mm film's ratio is 3:2 and 70 mm film's ratio is 2.2:1.

I saw the film SHOLAY in ELITE ( Kolkata ) , where the film was released , টানা পাঁচ বছর SHOLAY চালিয়েছে এমন সিনেমাহল কলকাতায় কিছু আছে , released হয়েছিল কিন্তু ELITE হলেই ( পুরানো বিল্ডিং য়ে )
Are 35 mm celluloid films still being made nowadays? I thought they went fully digital.
Most are digital now although some films that have good budget go for 35mm. Pls note that shooting on 35mm is more expensive than the digital thing.
Then which film in india was SHOT on 70mm originally without blewing 35mm? Or are there no films that was ever Shot on 70mm film in India?was shaan and burning train were shot on 75mm or were they also a 35mm blew up?
