I just cut my locs off after 14 years and gave myself a 2 all around with a taper fade. I was super nervous in doing it because I knew nothing about cutting hair! But after I was done giving myself a haircut and saw myself in the mirror...talk about empowering! Cutting your own hair is such a confidence builder! Then the more you do it the better you'll become, just like with anything. I swear, stepping outside with a fresh haircut knowing that every time you walk pass a mirror on the street and see that haircut, you know that was you. You did that and that is a great feeling. Great tutorial!
I appreciate you taking the time to do this. That was a very detailed step by step tutorial. I'm not a barber but I have been learning how to cut my own hair for about a year now and anybody that helps me on that journey is worth subscribing to. Keep doing what you doing man!
By far the best self cut my bro. U explained it in detail. I have cut my hair on an off for years but tired of using the barbershop.. Wana do my own thing again. Great job keep it up
Been searching through videos for a couple of days and this was one of the best tutorials I've come across that was detailed yet straight to the point. Thank you for making this. very helpful!!
I watched 3 of your videos before this one...the content is solid. BUT THIS IS THE VIDEO THAT MADE ME SUBSCRIBE. You literally put out the exact video i needed. My clippers just got here and this is how i like my haircuts. Thanks brother.
I appreciate how you keep us informed on what to use and how to use it through out the video. I also do my own haircuts at home, but I been a little skeptical on doing the taper fade. This video gives me the confidence to try it. Thanks!
Thanks bro for the help real talk!! I've bn trying to learn how to really taper for afew years now and thanks to your step by step technique I can finally attempt to do so!! Much love and respect!! Keep the videos coming lol.
Jonathan Godinez not bad kind of uneven. Like uneven on the fade but overall not bad for my first time. At least it’s cut the way I like it so I’m happy with it
@@RichieDavid83 I used to cut my own hair two and half years ago but clipppers broke now gotta start all over again. I am growing my hair out and get shape ups? How much would it cost to get two line up clippers what are the best ones. When it gets warm I will buy the cutting clippers too
@@RichieDavid83 facts bro, and on top of that, you'll set an appointment when your barber at a specific time and you still end up waiting an extra 20-25 mins....
Dope video brotha! I cut my hair too whenever I don't feel like going to the barber or when I don't have time to. But my biggest thing is doing the back of my hair. I've always found it more difficult then the sides. But I think I may use your method and do that back first since it's the hardest. 💯
Much respect ✊🏽 doc. Great video as usual very educational you really break the steps to your videos down above most learning how to cut my hair since this pandemic. Keep up the great work!
Your tutorial was great man thank you so much for this. Could you do a tutorial on how to master the angles/hand position when lining yourself up in the mirror? I can never find the right position to get a good view of what I'm doing. I've just been leaving it "fuck it" and I haven't messed up yet but if I had some tips that would make me feel a lot better. Especially behind my ear and the sides of my front line up. I'm using a hand mirror and my bathroom mirror. Thanks in advance.
good cut man im just getting into this myself ive learned tht spritz helps with the line up also maybe if you wanted to save time you could use that but my main issue is blending im struggling with that part i swear lol urs i great tho
Thanks bro...it took me forever before I even started trying to do fades/blending etc. All I can say is practice practice practice..and expect a few mess ups along the way lol
Preciate this big homie💯 Just got my fast feeds and gonna start cutting my own taper myself. Question? The ceramic blade on thr fast feeds. Is it a big difference or no and dig you zero gap your fast feeds?
Good video bro, you killing it man! I've been cutting my own hair for ten years now so I have a good amount of trial and error experience. lol The only thing I could suggest is branching out to the straight razor to hit the lower area of the fade or use a foil shaver of your choice to give it a even cleaner smoother transition from the light to dark area of the fade. Also, us the corner of the fast feeds to trim the darker area of the fade and cut down some of the bulk. Without pressing against the head, at an angle you could lightly come up with the corner of the fast feeds and do this. Or try using the zero guard or one guard depending on your hair length all the way open and hit the darker area only coming down with the clippers instead of coming up against the grain. Hope this info can help, keep at it!
Great video. Why do u taper from the lowest setting to highest as opposed to highest to lowest? If you did that, you would lessen the risk of bringing a guideline too high and having to adjust the taper or worse turning it into a fade.
I am having trouble fading that second guideline. It is very hash and goes from dark to light at the bottom. What else could I use beside the zero guard closed?
Bro you need that DIY 3way mirror makes things easier trust me cuz I used to cut my hair the same way having that one mirror lol but the haircuts dope 🤘🏾👍🏽🤘🏾
Plus about cutting your own hair your hair is the fact you don't have to go to a barber shop and risk getting robbed which the do in Milwaukee a lot. Two you can travel and always be fresh while saving money.
First off I salute you brotha I appreciate what you’re doing showing how to do this. Second I pretty much memorized your other taper vid (pt 3) is this method easier? And last thing how do you get any hair with the #2 if you already cut it at #1. Is that for cleanup spot? Once again much respect to you bruh keep doing your thing, clean cut!
Appreciate the love bro. I wouldn't say this method is necessarily easier. It does help to make the taper a little "tighter" if that makes sense. As far as the side taper, there's not much difference. The main difference with this method can be noticed with the neck taper. If you look at my old video of when I did my neck taper, the area of the taper is a lot longer and drawn out..compared to this method where the taper happens in a smaller space, but still blends pretty well. Even though I cut my whole head with a #1 guard, with the grain.. a #2 guard will still cut hair against the grain. Its because the hair lifts up when you cut against the grain. A #2 against the grain will cut slightly shorter than a #1 with the grain, hopefully that makes sense.
why is it that i bought these ceramic blades for my fast feeds and they never worked when i tried installing them? i even used sandpaper to shave down the edges and it didnt work
I clicked on your link and we literally have the same one .. I’m gonna try again lol cause I was so hyped I bought not only the fast feeds but also the speed lines but couldn’t get the ceramics installed so now they’re just sitting and I just been on my wahls but ima try it out again

Was the 1 guard open when you made the transition with the taper on the sides?
andis or bahl. which one gives a sharp turn out for a line up?
Cant go wrong with either tbh
I have a question.. I see your clippers are oster, but the guards are andis like the trimmers. Do you use the andis guards with the oster clippers?
yes the Andis double magnetic guards work with oster fast feeds
