I appreciate your opinion to not accept 'crowd funding' and especially not to try to shove it down our throats.....buuuuuuuut, playing devil's advocate here. Some channels are special, and even though it is your channel, I think it would be nice to feel like I am a part of that RIPPLE EFFECT and have the option of purchasing something from your wish list that you need or to make a financial contribution towards those meals you are giving away.
That is so kind of you to say and I completely understand both sides! If anyone did want to donate in that regard I do have a buy me a coffee link and I will work on putting together an Amazon wishlist ❤️
www.buymeacoffee.com/DollarTreeDinners
Those wish lists kill other channels. Look at Mary Beth Marr. Taking donations would rob you if the joy in the act of giving. People who want to give can do exactly what you're doing. You're leading by example they can cook and donate things the same way to people that are in need of food.
@@denisei7929 actually no we can’t- those of us who are at capacity now with our own medical conditions as well as carrying for family members can not also volunteer which is why we use inspirational channels like this to escape to. I’ll use her coffee option so at least I can feel like I am participating in a small way
@@DollarTreeDinnersI really love the work that you are doing. The care for those who need and sometime have no one else to depend on.
@@denisei7929That my dear couldn't be more from the truth for some of us! I also think it was EXTREMELY CONDESCENDING to those of us who WHOLE HEARTEDLY DESIRE to donate not only to Rebecca but also to Anyone that needs food. I am a Senior Senior Citizen who is not in the best of health🥹there are times when I can't get out of bed. That's how I found Rebecca. I can't do the meal planning, shopping, preparing, and putting everything together. BUT I CAN & WILL donate to Rebecca. Lastly I don't appreciate you,(a complete "stranger")telling me what I can and should do with my time & money!☺️
The fact that someone mentioned you not wearing gloves makes me kinda mad TBH. We watch you every week and we know you are hygienic. Would people rather an elderly woman and her disabled grandson go hungry? I usually don't voice my opinion this loudly but I can't keep quiet about this one. I'm so proud and impressed by you, Rebecca!
And me, even when someone is doing something good people still have to criticise. Makes me so angry.
Having worked in a couple different kitchens, U can confidently say wearing gloves means nothing. I saw so many cooks never change their gloves and never wash their hands. Better hygiene in frequent hand washing then gloves.
@@empresswb641Exactly. I had to tell a girl to change her gloves, she actually got an attitude.
Gloves get dirty too.
they dont even wear them at fast food places and people happily eat the food yet gonna whine about her not wearing them???
People don't realize how much a good meal makes someone feel. Security and a less anxiety filled day is such a blessing. ❤😊❤😊
I agree, and I hope it lifts their spirits. It made me so happy that everyday the grandson asked when more meals were coming
@@DollarTreeDinnersyou have an amazing heart.
@DollarTreeDinners yes that was cute. You know he appreciates it .❤️
This is so true.
How old is the grandson? Just wondering if he's an older child or if he's an adult with some physical problems maybe. Oh gosh I'm being too nosy so don't answer if I'm getting into where I don't belong
I worked in kitchens for decades. Gloves are there to make customers feel better. They don't actually work. They can spread MORE contaminants, in fact, because the kitchen workers don't change them frequently enough.
Absolutely right.
You can wash your own bare hands as often as required.
Gloved hands just become dirtier and dirtier until they are removed.
While that is true, the majority of contaminants are from under people's nails, which is area frequently missed with handwashing. A nail brush solves this. Gloves are good protectants if they are changed frequently, otherwise, they are contaminants.
I definitely agree and have seen similar research 😀
Clean hands are much better than dirty gloves
There's also a crazy, controversial practice in cooking known as the "oven" or "range" where you use fire to sanitize any bacteria in uncooked food.
This country amazes me, you go and do something wonderful like you are doing still is not enough for the ones that have to find something wrong with the way you do the right thing while they sit back in there comfy chair and not doing anything to make someone’s life better.
Welcome to America where the lazy who expect everyone to do for them but aren’t willing to do anything to help others or themselves but always have time to put those who do for others down
Isn't that the truth. Talk is cheap. Walking the walk is where it's at.
Also the ones doing the talking,I gauntie do not do anything for anyone else.Wrong spelling, mind whet blank. Sorry.
I'm telling you....
You are right @@user-te3ff8np1s
I am sure most of us are confident in your ability to wash your hands, lol. Sucks you can't just make fun videos and enjoy your passion without people pearl clutching about everything.
Right!?!? I was thinking the same thing. You just phrased it much better than I could! Lol ❤❤
I was thinking the same!
I was just thinking that as well!
Totalllllllly!
Pearl clutching 😂 I learned a new term.
May I suggest “Friendly Neighborhood Meals”? ❤ You’re keeping it friendly, you’re keeping it neighborly, you’re using local stores and resources and of course, they’re meals.
Great suggestion!
This is one of my favorite segments! It's so heartwarming , inspiring, and I can see the care, thoughtfulness, and love that you put into it! Kudos! ❤️
Great name
Great job as usual!!
Gifts for grannies? is that too rude? lol
My heart swelled and cried at the same time when hearing how well your food was appreciated. Being a senior of limited means myself, I feel the appreciation your meals have given. Please don't let the glove comment stop you because anyone who cares enough to feed their neighbor would never harm them - and we instinctly know that.
I appreciate that you are not undertaking this enterprise for money or clout, however people may like to contribute to your endeavour, an Amazon wish list, or coffee corner allows for that. As a disabled person I can vouch just how much these meals would be a massive blessing
If you haven’t done so already, look into Meals For Wheels. They do great work ❤️
thank you so much! I do have a buy me a coffee link if you or anyone else is interested in that ❤️

@@pennynickels5216 Why does someone always have to come along and criticize? Buy me a coffee allows donors to be anonymous, where Pay Pal does not.

Love this one!
@@Yesica1993 Adding my vote too!! This is the winner.
Neighbors in need is brilliant
@bluemoon I like it… ✔️
Great idea! 🙂 Love it!
Having been certified in food sanitation for 20 years, gloves are generally necessary for handling ready to eat foods, but as for raw ingredients, diligence in hand washing and keeping prep surfaces sanitary is all that is truly necessary. If you are using utensils to portion, then you are fine.
You definitely don't give off clout vibes with this. Only positive, generous vibes 💗 I buy the Walmart half & half and it's excellent. I use it instead of milk for everything, including cereal lol I highly recommend trying! 😂 It makes it more like a creamy dessert.
I appreciate that! I’m going to make them a dessert next week and I also have asked what each of their favorite meals are so that I can include those soon too❤️
@@DollarTreeDinners May God bless you as you bless others !! 💞🙏💞
I use Walmart half and half as milk also, even on cereal😂
@@sueholdener4135 😂🤜🤛
The glove comment, people, have you been to a subway or any sandwich making shop? They are constantly going through box after box of gloves, because they have to trash the gloves after EVERY sandwich they make. That is waste, it's not sustainable, and it's those real cheapo plastic gloves that end up in the landfill. Environment go down the hooooole. I'm sorry, she doesn't seem like she's picking her nose and then playing in the food.
And I believe some other comments stated that wearing gloves don't work most of the time anyways and just spread more nastiness everywhere. It's just an appearance thing, to make the customer happy. Like a placebo.
Girl, you keep on making your meals ungloved. LOVE IT!
Met someone today that introduced us to a food donation center. We have apple and pear trees that produce ALOT of fruit in the summer time. We will be donating a lot of fruit this year. (only been in the town we live at for a half year now).
I worked in a commercial kitchen for a year, cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner for 18 people 5 days a week. Never put the gloves on while cooking and only used the gloves for cleaning and taking the bin out. I was strictly instructed to handle food with my bare hands all the time so you’re doing great and washing your hands is more than enough ❤
Oh wow! Thank you for sharing that! ❤️
You tell Michael he had better appreciate what a treasure he has or this old Gramma wants to have a talk with him. Love what you are doing! Such great ideas.
You are seriously an angel walking among us!!!! We should all strive to take your guidance & embrace your heart to make our world a more caring, sustainable & beautiful place. Thank you for everything that you do
Thank you for doing this. I am a mom and a wife. My daughter is autistic and always home with me. But I'm also responsible for my grandmother who has dementia. She lives in a separate residence (by her choice) and has part-time helpers. But getting herself fed when the helpers aren't around is a huge challenge. I can't cook most of her meals, but I try to share meals when I know I have made something for my family that she also likes. As someone stretched thin and sandwiched between responsibilities for my own child and my grandparent, I see immense value and relief in the service you're offering. It means a little less stress and more peace of mind for the responsible party (her son). God bless you.
God bless you !You doing all that you are to help a-l-l of your family , blessings to you !Have a wonderful day !👍👍🌞🌞🙏🙏
@@lauraspicks7114 💜💜💜 thank you!
I think the way that you do, I cook meals for a church that houses homeless people, they are not bad people and often times are misjudged. I currently cook for 22 people, that is maximum capacity per building code and other factors, something everyone loves is tater tot casserole, and I make a side of green beans and usually a simple side salad with rolls, or some type of bread. I thoroughly enjoy cooking, especially for people that are thankful to have a hot meal. Everyone loves my spaghetti also, I use alot of meat in my sauce and it's very filling and wholesome. Again, I think you are great, nurturing, and caring!! Everyone takes turns to make main meals, dessert, and supplying drinks, we also give access to socks, and different sizes of clothing.
Gloves are not sterile. Gloves protect you, not the other person. Clean hands are perfectly fine!
bless you, people like you make this world a better place.
How about “Meals from the Heart” I must repeat how much this heartens me. My dad had dementia so I can really appreciate your kindness. PS. Smaller pieces for all veggies is probably a good idea. Choking can be an issue with dementia folks cuz they don’t always remember to chew enough.❤
Oh, I’m not sure if you ever watch Acre Homestead on UA-cam but she does a ton of bulk freezer meal vids. Might be a nice place to get some more ideas and recipes that you could cut to be the size you need.❤
@@Tia-vj9ox I follow Becky too. She's super great too.
My daddy had alzheimer and now my mom has suspected dementia.
Bless you for all y'all do 😊
What a lovely name! This gets my vote! Meals from the Heart. Exactly right.
Perfect name
It's so heartwarming that you are doing these meals. So many seniors and disabled need help and here you are stepping up and taking action rather than talk. Kudos to you. I love these videos, they counteract all the negativity surrounding society right now.
If you’d like to portion out things like meatloaf, use your muffin tin. I do that all the time. For a regular muffin pan, 2 meatloaf muffins are a serving. And they cook faster too.
And result in more crispy exterior, for those who like that part best.
Yes, muffin tin portions are great for so many things, especially leftovers like stuffing, quick casserole reheats, etc.
Your meals, break down on the steps and guides have literally saved my household. There is less fighting, less stress and confidence in our food and finances for said food. Thank you.
My boys and I have volunteered at a food shelf since they were in second and third grade, now over 15 years. It has been one of the most humbling, rewarding and positive life experiences we’ve shared. Without getting preachy they absorbed the idea that we are blessed and they both regularly donate and look for ways to help in our community. The school was always clear in their disapproval of my taking them out on Tuesday afternoons, but I staunchly believe that they are better humans for it. Besides, school isn’t teaching a lot of what it did when I was their age! Keep up the good work, this will no doubt be an amazing and rewarding experience.
You're so positive, every time I see you upload i can't click fast enough. I'm already smiling from the first 30 seconds. You're doing such an amazing and thoughtful thing and putting it on here is making my Internet feed a better place. Thank you!
Thank you for helping others, not just through your clever money saving meals, but also for helping this family in a very real and practical way.
Rebecca, you are such an inspiration and this ole world needs more sweethearts like you :)
I agree! She is a beautiful woman!! With a big heart ❤️
"Community Kitchen Delights" is the first one I am suggesting. It doesn't limit to age, reason or type of cooking/baking. It opens the door for others to participate. This is a great series!
I'm a lunch lady, we cook breakfast for about 100 and lunch for around 200 kids every day. There are certain things we have to do, like portion sizes and meal components required by the USDA. We cook 2 options at each meal, and also have a special ordering option for our children that have religious or dietary food needs, its a great job. Sometimes challenging, but, I love it.
It warms my heart to know that people like you exist and share their compassion and love with their audience so transparently. I could see you getting choked up describing your experience in the intro and I just wanted to give you a big hug and a warm smile because you genuinely seem like a very good person. I'm happy the algorithm got me to your channel. :)
I love that you are also helping out the other son (the one that has his own family) by making these meals. I'm sure he appreciates it greatly! 🥰
Yes! Caregivers need caregiving too.
u are probably one of the most insightful and compassionate people ive ever stumbled across on the internet. the people around u are so genuinely blessed to have u in their corner. i hope u see how beautiful of a person u are, that we all have the pleasure to see!! thank u for being u 💚
You are obviously “Blessed to Be a Blessing.” It is so clear that your heart is in this. Please ignore all nasty critics. I love your videos and your sweet spirit.
Awww💕
I love this comment!
For people who want to donate...have them donate to their local food pantry so that way they can also help people.
Definitely! I usually try to redirect to that when I get offered donations
I commented on your first video of making the meals for the elderly lady being taken care of by her grandson and again I can only say you are an angel sent directly from God. Bless you! I sew and make baby things for the Native American elderly and infants on reservations. We can ALL find ways to help those in need, either by using our creativity or by donating cash if you don't have a skill. You would be astonished by how grateful the First Americans are to just receive a pair of SOCKS for their child!
"Rebecca Cares"... because you certainly do! :) For food ideas you should just watch your old videos. lol Your Spam Fried Rice... all your one pot skillet meals... your casseroles... they all would fill at least 4 containers. To prep ahead add a bunch of burritos (breakfast or main meal ones)... five them some and pop the rest in your freezer. You have so many super recipes... Pillsbury Everything Breakfast Bombs would be great (and freeze well). I'm sure you could stuff those with lots of other things besides just breakfast stuff. The instant potatoes might not freeze well (I know Bob's Mashed Potatoes don't... they get very thin)... but if you make up a pot of mashed potatoes then put ice cream scoops of then on parchment and freeze.. then you can bag them up to have on hand for meal containers. Time saver and firmer mashed potatoes. Just a thought. Your roasted potatoes looked perfect... you could also make those ahead and freeze them either loose and then bag them or bag them up in ziplock bags in quantities that fit your meal containers. Any meat combinations (like fried up with potatoes, onions, cheese, veggies... whatever.. seasoned any way you want... Mexican, Italian, or just with cheese... all can be made into hand pies using bicuits rolled out thin, pie dough, or even flour tortillas. Wrap them up and freeze them. Served up with roasted potatoes, fries, veggies or whatever. With your mindset you really don't need us for ideas. :)
I'm hoping the day comes when companies offer to sponsor a video or two and give you meats, pantry items, etc for you to make these meals. Advertising for them... savings for you... and it isn't like you are the kind who would be pushing it down our throats to buy. More like you would be testing their foods and giving your honest opinion. I don't know how that works exactly but see it all the time in the aquarium world... and they only give their truthful opinions (so you don't feel like they own you). You deserve to have some of these big companies to help you out so you can realize your dream. Shirley in NH
Everyplate or Hello Fresh?
maybe a nice beefstew, creamy chicken gnocchi soup, cornbread
shepards pie, spaghetti and meatballs, garlic breads, cheddar biscuits, chicken stuffing casserole, a homemade Salisbury steak with stuffing and corn.
That all sounds terrific!
Putting gnocchi in soup is gonna make it super soggy I recommend a tomato sauce instead
Yuuuuum😊
Salisbury steak is so good. I do onions and mushrooms with mine and pan fry it, then simmer it in gravy. I used jarred brown gravy. I've done homemade, but the gravy is never as good. Another one is Swiss steak. You have to simmer it for an hour and a half, but its affordable and delicious. The gravy is so good on mashed potatoes.
Baked potato soup is also delicious.
@@darkqueennyannya159 I do a gnocchi meatball soup, and use premade gnocchi. It stays firm and does not get soggy. We eat on it for 3 days with no issues. I do buy the DeCecco brand as it is cheaper at my grocery store and tastes better than the Target brand. My daughter says the Walmart brand is pretty good.
We do meal prep every week for my sister and some for me. Monotony can be an issue. When we don't have much time we use herbs and spices to differentiate items like vegetables, potatoes, and rice. Examples might be lemon pepper for two days, Italian seasoning mix for another two, and something more exotic like Old Bay or taco seasoning for the final three days.
Every home cook knows about food safety! What a tempest in a teapot!
Thank you for using your gifts to help someone else! Wonderful!
I was a “lunch lady” for a few years while my children were in elementary school. I loved having a similar schedule, learning new things, and having summers off. 😁
Also, zuppa toscana is one of our favorite soups. It’s so simple and flavorful. I’ve made it many times for my in-laws. Lol…every time they’re here when I make it I’m told “we don’t like kale”. Then they commence to eat all my kale soup. They’re very cute.
You are such a blessing, Rebecca. I'm glad you have found a way to help your community in such a gifted way.
Rebecca, you are so very kind. Most critics just criticize, because running one's mouth is easy and I highly doubt that they do much else. It is easy to give some money, but you are giving your time and that is a lot more valuable. As another commenter said, you might consider a wish list or some other way for viewers to contribute. Love your content.
Having worked in kitchens for years, i understand wanted to do something that makes a difference in someone's life. I know that when I'm having a rough time a good meal really makes a difference. Also, puppies
❤ Meals from Rebecca's Heart ❤
Love this
I love that
That’s beautiful 💝
I am just soooo glad that they were happy with the food and grateful! Unfortunately, sometimes people can be really choosy and critical of those who are trying to help them. I myself had to stop doing some charitable things I tried to do in the past for neighbors, or Lasagna Love when the demands and criticisms just got too much. This series is restoring my faith in humanity and charity.
So true.
People's palates are just as varied and unique as their personalities.
Oh no I’m sorry to hear that! I hope you’ll give it a go again at some point despite the criticism
@@DrPooks Very true. I don't mind varied tastes at all, but I had a bad experience with a neighbor I tried to help out with yard work after surgery. After awhile I think he started to forget that my services were free and being done out of community and neighborly love and started to see me more as a personal assistant and him and his children became very demanding of my time.
I know a lot of other people have had similar "Give an inch and people will take a mile" type experiences, so it's really nice to see things like this video to remind us that it's not always that way. We need each other and shouldn't let bad experiences keep us from serving our community when we can.
@@heatherangel9700I’m sorry you went through that plz tell us stop and his kids start to help ?
@@cupcakeadventures8770 Thank you, I appreciate that. His kids were adults who lived out of state with their own families. But anytime he thought I was late or not working his yard frequently enough or did not have time to do all the other things he started expecting from me (grocery shopping, driving him to appointment, cooking, etc) I would start getting demanding texts from his son and daughter in law. It ended up being a whole ordeal. But yes, I had to just tell him I would no longer be able to help him out. Thankfully this was some time ago and I no longer even live in that neighborhood.
Those of us asking to make a donation already know you’re not asking or doing this for any funding! You have a community who wants to help but maybe can’t due to physical limitations or financial limitations of fixing a whole meal. It’s a worthy cause and being from Richmond VA and there’s not a ton of help for someone who needs meal assistance. Food given is great but it still requires being prepared and tools, electricity and appliances! Thank you for sharing your love of cooking and want to help someone in the community!
I'm glad the first batch of meals were such a hit. Your dogs are adorable 😍
You are doing from your heart and that’s what is important ! I. Commend you for doing such a wonderful job act of kindness and showing Gods love. We forget that we are all human and yes things can happen but you’re doing your best. Those who are that concern, don’t realize that a home cooked meal presented to someone means they are fed , sometimes it may not be what they want but as my momma always told me. You must not be hungry if you choose to balk at what’s made or if you leave food in the bowl without scraping it out. My mother is Japanese and remember the days of hunger when Japan was bombed in wwll. It was very tough for her and her siblings. We learned to be thankful for anything that was made for us and we ate it even if we didn’t like or wasn’t sure of something. People remember, she’s washing her hands as she’s cooking. Excellent job my friend, keep doing Gods work through your videos.blessings.
Excellent video and I love what you are doing ! Its God's work. I have a suggestion, maybe you can make a LIST of foods...and then the neighbor(person you are cooking for) etc...can check off what they like and if they have food allergies, etc...making a list will help when you start your Commercial kitchen...specific customized food availability...makes it easy💖
You are helping a family, that is all that matters. Someone saying something about gloves honestly does not understand the use of gloves. Washing your hands is the most important step you can do.
The fact that anyone would criticize two lovely people who are giving their time & resources to help another family, they haven't even met, and are in no way profiting from it is mind boggling. For anyone who thinks they're doing wrong- go do this yourself and show us all the "the right way". Can't? Then be quiet. Seriously I hope every person being rude forever loses their socks in the dryer.
Huge support hugs R&M!

Don't stop 😢 this is awesome thing you are doing
Thanks for all you are doing!! I try and bring my neighbor a hot meal occasionally, i think watching you do this will have me doing it more often. I wish you didnt have people critiquing every thing you do, but its the internet 😂 Keep being the sweet positive person you are, gives me hope in humanity and our community.
you have certainly changed their lives....😢 ❤❤❤❤
That's just seasoning on that dutch oven, girl! Mine look like that, too! EVERYTHING looked delicious! I would happily eat any one of those meals and enjoy every bite; I'm sure the recipients will, too! You could use the meat loaf mixture and turn it into Salisbury steaks, with some brown gravy, mashed potatoes and maybe peas and carrots as the sides.
The chicken gravy bowls (one of my favorite breakfasts, by the way!) could be turned into lunch or supper by replacing biscuits with mashed potatoes, and adding corn, in the style of KFC.
You're not doing this for kudos or clout, but I'm pretty sure the angels are adding jewels to the crown that waits for you in heaven. Blessings to you; you are an Earth Angel.
Use a muffin tin for individual meatloaf portions. Works well and the small portions freeze well.
This is a sweet idea. There is no need for critical comments. We all need to remember people cook from their region and family recipes. There are so many meals you could make for them.Oh, fun to come up with meal ideas. I used to work in social services and food insecurity was such a problem for families. Many of my clients would have loved this. .
You are such a kind and generous person. The widow you are helping is truly blessed. Maybe every once in a while you could add in a batch of muffins or even add in a bag of apples or a fruit salad just to add variety and more freshness as a treat
Great idea! Fresh fruit I’m sure would be appreciated
Love your channel- ❤ there is a lady on UA-cam that does cleaning, she uses some of her UA-cam money to help donate to orphanages and sick children with cancer to support the family. What you are doing is Amazing for this family. Paying it forward is such a beautiful lesson for everyone! Like and subscribe takes this to a new level of paying it forward. ❤
Would love to visit her channel??
Thank you for what you're doing for your community, and hopefully encouraging others to also do for theirs. ❤
Seeing this gives me a weird idea. My mom used to work at a Hardee's (southern fast food) decades ago. Sge would tell me about how they had a special discount for senior citizens, where they get a biscuit and coffee for,...... change, basically. Like, not even a dollar. And shedtremark on how many of them would come in only for that, be ause it was all they could afford in their social security checks, and for some, that would be all they might eat for the day. Just a biscuit, some jelly and a cup of coffee. 😢
I'm not sure if Hardee's still has that going on, or if its gone up, hopefully not.
Maybe for those who want to help, but aren't decent cooks(🙋🏿♀️) this ciuld be an alternative? Baking batches of biscuits and coffee for free to supplement their diets, and using the funds that would've gone to full meals to buy them groceris, or to financially assist them.
I am not domestically astute, so i have no clue how much biscuit stuff would run you. Or coffee. 😅
I kinda feel like this isn't practical. Maybe make week or month size amounts they can heat up themselves?? Idk.
Just a lil thought, from a funky lil brain 🙃
I love your philanthropy doing something you love to do! I don't know how feasible this is, but you are such a joyful and imaginative cook, and a great teacher, too--so I wonder if there is a food pantry with a large kitchen (we have churches here that have kitchens), where you could hold some demonstrations on food pantry days to show people how to stretch their food pantry items. I feel like you would be amazing at it, and it would bring some community and fellowship and good ideas to people who are experiencing food hardship.
Depending on what type of support you can get for it, maybe there could also be a featured spice or ingredient for each class, that participants receive to help them start stocking some flavors. That would require limiting the participants so you have enough. Just throwing out ideas.
I worked as a professional cook (I can't say "chef" because I didn't go to culinary school) in a nursing home for 8 years. I had to cook for 200+ people everyday from scratch. I also had to make 6 *gallons* of soup from scratch daily (even in the summer!) I was responsible for all of the 'hot' food - the meat, potatoes & veg. I had ONE assistant and she made the salads and desserts.
This brings back memories cooking for the elderly!
I'd call the series: 'Dare to Care' or 'Sharing is Caring' or 'Feeding New Friends' or 'Helping Hands-Family style'. I had a senior client named Mae. I shared with her an apple dumpling from my kitchen. She let me know it was her last meal as her MD told her to go to the ER and she refused treatments. I'm so glad we shared that together. Memories & Fun & Purpose. 💚💚💙💙🧡🧡
There are labels you can purchase that stick on, you can write on them, but, the desolve in water. I use them on my canning jars and meal prep containers and the dont leave a residue. They are made from cornstarch and don't harm the environment. Just something you may be interested in so the labels dont make the containers have sticky left on them over time. They are available on Amazon and in some stores that carry canning products.
Having experience with Alzheimer’s myself one of the biggest things that I learned is that nutrition comes down to how much caloric intake we can get someone with Alzheimer’s to eat it is not about healthy versus junk food because they are dying and their body will eventually stop processing food altogether so to keep them fed it is more important to feed them stuff if they like feeding them things that are “healthy”.
My grandma has frontal temporal dementia. It's taken years, but she is starting to not eat much. She is getting into rapid decline. She had a couple of years with anger issues early on. Then, that stopped. Then she got into this calm and quiet state where she has been for years. Now she is rapidly declining. Them eating is important.
Having cared for two family members in my home who had dementia, I wish more people understood that dementia has stages and no two dementia patients are the same. Choking is common, and familiar foods are more likely to get eaten, because they recognize it. There is definitely a phase where they feel scared and suspicious of combos that aren't recognizable to them.
I love how you aren't letting the negative Nancys discourage you from doing these meals. I know the lady and her grandson are also glad. You are definitely making a difference in their lives.
My grandmother no longer cooks following a stroke. I am the one with a family of my own, trying to keep her at home as long as possible. I'm sure your help is truly life-changing.
I hope people are inspired to do more of this. ❤
Rebecca I'm glad this is a positive reward for you and the deserving senior family.
I pray she is rewarded with 1 million or more subscribers 🫶🏻🙏🎉
I started meal prepping croissant breakfast sandwiches for the freezer and they've reheated really well for me. Both pancakes and french toast freeze well too. I freeze them all separately and put them in a freezer bag so they dont all freeze in a block. I wonder if you could make some freezer meals like lasagna, baked ziti, or casseroles and then the aid or son could cook/heat them up on those extra hard days. I'm a caregiver for my mom and it definitely helps to have things like that in the freezer for those days as a backup.

As someone who helped care for a dementia parent while also having a young family, I can tell you your help is so important. When you mentioned that the son can get home earlier for his own family I started crying thinking about our own struggles. It was so hard to be present for our young children and be there for our parents. Also, dementia patients have a much easier time with already portioned food rather than family style meals, so your meals are a huge help I am sure. Thanks for sharing this journey with us!
Yes,butter+broccoli a must at least with me anyways. I put butter in everything Dogs are amazing.😊
Love using frozen biscuits, it's just the two of us and we're both over 70.
I think they taste just like homemade.
If you need a meal idea, chicken and dumplings are easy and delicious. I make mine just like chicken soup with chicken, celery, carrots, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Sometimes I will throw some dried herbs in. I have made homemade dumplings, but the Bisquick ones are everyone's favorite here. They thicken it into a stew and make the meal really filling and hearty. It's inexpensive too. I often add a bit of half and half or cream at the end. It does so well in the fridge too.
One my daughter taught me is meatball soup. It's made again like chicken soup (with no chicken), but has spinach frozen meatballs, and prepackage Gnocchi (I cut them in half.) The big seasoning is Italian seasoning. Sometimes I will add a can of tomato paste to change it up. You add cream at the end ( I think I do about half a cup.) I've also done cooked mushrooms in it. I don't have a recipe, but it's similar amounts of stock and liquid as the Zuppa Toscana. You are an intuitive cook like me, so I have no doubt you could figure it out.
Just wanted to say thank you. Don’t let unhappy grump people ever bring down any of your videos. I live in an area with a lot of homeless sleeping on the streets. Any ideas you might have to help me get food out to them would be greatly appreciated.
I once volunteered at a homeless shelter, a PADS type overnight shelter. Once a month, my church would work at church making their evening mean and also a sack lunch of sandwiches and fruit. What I observed and what we learned is that many of the women preferred to eat a large salad with fruit for their dinner and then would wrap up the food to take with them for a meal the next day. They also really liked the Kool aid or lemonade we would serve with the meal so they could hydrate. Of course pizza and watermelon went over very well on a hot summer day! So maybe try foods that are easy to carry with them? I was always the one adding extra bologna and cheese or peanut butter to their sandwiches!
When you started making meat loaf, I said you needed to make mashed potatoes and green beans to go with it. I always make those when I make meatloaf.😊
Lord bless you Rebecca 🙏 You are such a sweetheart 😊
I was a restaurant owner for years and never once did we use Clive's in the kitchen. It doesn't even make sense, the amount of cross contamination that would happen as opposed to frequently washing your bare hands. You're doing such a great thing keep up the good work.
Hey, sweetheart, glad to hear she loved them (I knew she would, I have a lot of faith in you)
Another amazing video! I would eat every day at your house, with your hair down, no gloves, and the dogs out! You are such a blessing to this cruel world. Thank you for all you do and everything you teach.
Yes I agree❤
I would to! Wonder if we would be allowed to sneak the dogs a few bites?
"Heart to Heart Meals"
%100 agreed!!!!
Hi, wonderful work you're doing. As a single senior with chronic pain I have started prepping freezer meals. It ensures that I can have hot meals on days that are painful. Funnily enough I use the same food containers. They are the best i've used to date for that price. I heat them in a small toaster oven. Tip them out onto a metal pie plate.aluminum foil on top, bake about 20-30 min 300 degrees. Keeps the meals from drying out, usually take the foil off about 10 mins at the end. Like you I love cooking but to tell the truth feeding people is total pleasure and the best part of cooking. Tomorrow I start 2 medications that are purported to treat this particular pain sucessfully. Once that kicks in ,will discreetly check around and try this. Cooking always makes me happy. wish me luck. Reminds of my uni days when for a break joined a volunteer organization that assisted seniors. Once a week went to their home for the aftn and cooked whatever she wanted. It was great hearing all her stories. Best of all I got great recipes for myself. Total win, win. Did for an entire year, was sad when had to move for a job after graduating. This has given me something to look forward to. Also since you borrowed ideas from others I feel no guilt stealing some of your meals for myself. Can't wait for your next show.
Warning...this is going to be long.
First of all I love this idea and I love your heart. As you progress it will come together more easily and quickly.
Some suggestions. Cut your prep videoing down. Chop one potato for the camera and then show finished prep. This saves on mic time and on your voice. When your using a mix like the mashed potatoes show the mix and then the finished product saying that you prepared it according to the package instructions and then adding any changes you made like extra salt or cheese and why.
Just plate out one completed meal showing portions and do the rest off camera. Basically, save your camera time and highlight important parts. Less wear and tear on you as well.
If its longer than about fifteen minutes consider breaking it up into smaller presentations. You can preplan so that even while multitasking you can video for shorter presentations.
Lastly, as a disabled senior who would love someone to do this for me I would encourage you to explore some nostalgic options. For an early onset dementia patient foods from childhood would be comforting. Some ideas? Jello salads. There are some that are actually meant to be frozen so you could stockpile those. The homemade soup is a great idea but how about homemade vegetable beef or chicken. So much better than canned and so nutritious and with a side of those fabulous biscuits very satisfying. Meatloaf was a great nostalgic choice. Scalloped potatoes with ham was another main dish staple along with chicken and dumplings.
Fruit desserts were also popular...pineapple upside down cake, fruit crumbles and crisps and even things like applesauce and cinnamon or rhubarb sauce.
Ask the neighbor to find out any cravings. I know as someone who used to cook and can't any longer how food memories can plague you.
I hope you don't consider this a criticism but a real effort to help in this oh so worthy endeavor. You're doing well!
Let’s not criticize those who help
I am so grateful for this series. My elderly mother fell and broke her hip very badly last month, and my dad is home alone and has early stage dementia. These types of meals could help him so much, and both him and my mom when she gets home from rehab. Thank you.❤
Because you said you needed a better name for the series, I played with ideas :) Noms for Neighbors? Dollar Tree Diners? Cooking for my Community? The Gift that Keeps Me Cooking? ;D Love what you're doing! Finding it very inspiring :)
NOMS FOR NEIGHBORS! That’s too cute! ❤
You make it look so easy! But you must have really been tired when you got done-a lot of work! Your senior is so lucky to have found you. Everything looks delicious!
How about "Cooking Up Comfort" for the series name? I absolutely love what you are doing.
My husband is a chef and Japanese. He eats rice 3 meals a day, 7 days a week when he’s able. He’s nearly 53 years old and NEVER gets tired of rice, lol. I’m 54 years old and in my book, there’s no such thing as too many potatoes in a day.
You’re a kind woman with a big heart and I can’t wait to see where you go with this effort.
Have an awesome week!
Im so happy & glad for u that, people told u they appreciate ur support n liked ur meals ❤ helping others is giving of yourself for those in need ur a blessing to God 🙏
Ok but why was it so satisfying that you had a round label for the round containers? 😃
Haha I did that intentionally and they fit perfectly
KFC bowls are one of our faves, maybe that could be one of your meals.
I’ve definitely seen ‘performative charity’ and then what you and a few others do. The way you and the others I enjoy present it as “this was an idea I had in my community, I would love to inspire others and get a conversation going about different things people can do and how to find out in your communities how to help”
It’s much more about the process than the act of charity itself.
My sister and I make individual freezer meals for my 87 year old mom and she loves them. You are doing such a wonderful service for this lady and her family! ❤❤❤
You could call it the "Sharing Means Caring" series
Neighbors reaching Neighbors ❤. Doesn't get any better than that.
You have really clarified something for me! I normally love to cook. I like the science of it, trying new recipes and modifying them, etc. But I really don NOT like to "feed people". I didn't realize that was such a different thing until you mentioned it. During Covid I was in a difficult situation with some extended family and we tried to rotate the cooking. There were "picky eater" issues, likes and dislikes, and the whole thing was a grind, trying to make everyone happy and divide the labor. My aunt tried to remind me about how much I supposedly like cooking, but I couldn't quite figure out why that was so different!
It sounds bad to say that I don't like to cook for people, but it's the honest truth, and I love knowing that's a thing!
If you have to make meatloaf with a higher fat content , line your pan with a couple slices of bread before baking it will soak up the extra grease . And if someone doesn't mind the grease , all the flavor also goes into the bread and it turns out a little crispy so it can be a bonus for someone who doesn't mind .
