That last story is heartbreaking because Frank's friend was not a male, but a female octopus. Unfortunately they likely weren't meant to meet again. Fredrick was most likely a she, because what's was described in the story looks a lot like the brooding behaviour of white spotted octopus(we have a lot of them off Europe's coasts, they also live on American East coast too), they change colour to red and then sit for multiple days covering the spot where their eggs are laid, refusing to eat/move/do anything else really until the eggs start to hatch, and then they move away to warmer waters so that they don't compete with their own babies for food/don't accidentally eat them
@@jak582filmweb 😲 ohh really? Good to know why Fred's not moving away from that last spot where Frank saw her no matter what happened. 😊 Fred's got eggs to protect then. Been really wondering why was she like that. Thanks for sharing.
The last story, Fredrick, was most likely a female. A female octopus guards her eggs until they hatch. They don't eat during this time and pass away after the babies are born. It's sad because they are truly amazing creatures.
The fascination with moments before death reminded me of when I used to remove bodies for funeral homes and what not, looking at things like a half filled coffee mug, a newspaper on the table, even urine in the toilet. Like how they probably had no idea they would finish the rest of that coffee. It’s surreal in a way.
I could never scuba drive, so hats off to those that do. I admire the seas & lakes, but deep water sends me into a panic attack! I absolutely love listening to your stories ❤️
Had a school mate. who's dad was a Rescue Diver with the Fire Department in Copenhagen. One of their tasks is to clean the underwater statues. One day, the dad's dive buddy had gone down (only about 4 m deep) to clean the statues, when he suddently FLEW out of the water. When sitting on the pier, he muttered "There... there... there was a cyclist!!!" Well, it was too shallow for Nitrogen Narcosis so... WTF?!?!?! Turns out, an old man had tied himself to a heavy bicycle and drowned himself. The gasses inside him, had stood him up and the current had pushed him past the diver..
depending on how long the octopus was hanging out in that one spot, he could actually have been a she caring for eggs! a lot of octopuses will guard their eggs and just slowly starve to death while making sure the eggs make it to hatching

About the last story: Frederik may have been a girl. When octopuses lay eggs, they will hide them in holes or crevices and then guard that location until hatching, often starving in the process. :(
Can confirm that looking at those drops in the ocean floor is terrifying. Went snorkeling one time off a boat and I had to get out immediately. It unexplainable/ unimaginable and over all terrifying. It’s a very stark realization that we are so very small and fragile as human beings. Snorkeling was a soft try into diving ……but after that I knew I could never dive. It inspired fears I never had before. There was also a coral reef nearby and watching all the huge fish swim in and out without being able to see all of them…. Then realizing there could be anything hiding in there……. Ugh. I honestly panicked and begged to get back on the boat. The rest of the time me and 3 other people who freaked out watched everyone else and that was fun lol.

37:00 I know exactly what that 'glow' was and yes, it happens to Navy warships as well as other ships and private boats all too often. Note, boat as opposed to ship? Boats are small and can be carried on ships. Submarines are often referred to as 'boats' but they are not boats as they cannot be carried on ships. For instance, while I served in the US Navy back in the 1970's, my ship carried several boats. One was a diver boat.
One of the best series of deep diving stories. I hope to hear more in the near future. Kinda terrifying as it involves near complete hopelessness in the unknown depths….spooky.
Ah, the age old giant catfish story... There are two fairly large man made lakes in my neck of the woods. Both of them carry the same tale. The giant catfish, the sunken old town, the sub mechanic work being done either on dams or spillway. The catfish here however have been compared to being as large as a Volkswagen and or too big to fit in the bed of a full size pickup truck. An old one involving a local river was so large it stretched tip to tale the same size as the sunken train car it lived in. Never gets old. And never changes much lol.
Those stories were pretty scary to me as deep waters creep me out generally. Last story was sad, though, I think the creature was sick and/or dying at the end.
