We may not talk about Bruno, but we will never shut up about Geoff's G1s in chest voice🥵So great to hear Ashley rejoin the crew for this one, and overall an awesome cover of this Disney song that became an instant classic when it dropped a couple months ago. Bravi, tutti! 👏
So Layne is actually classified as a baritone, and he sometimes does bass harmony with Geoff. He even covered Evil Like Me on his own channel, and he pulled out some fat exposed D2s in chest voice that made me inexplicably proud
It's impressive that he has that range, but it's worth mentioning that it's not unheard of for tenors to be able to sing in the bass range, especially with morning voice -- I'm really going off the weight and color of his voice rather than range
Layne outdid himself with this arrangement. Picking the right person for a particular part. So funny with that twisted sense of humor. Geoff's costume changes to match Ashley's along with the gratuitous hair flipping while he's looking at Kathy who is tossing the rose peddles into the fan. The rat belongs to Layne's daughter (Disney Princess) Doris.
Layne does all the Disney music arrangements. As expected, as he has a little girl daughter. He probably has every Disney song burned into his skull for ever.
I'm a total sucker for anybody who truly appreciate both Voiceplay and Geoff. Thanks for the insights - I've been listening to this for days and now I'll listen even closer.
The first time I watched this I was a little confused by Geoff’s wardrobe change. Then I realized he was Camilo the Shapeshifter and he was shifting into Bruno then Isabella and then back into Bruno. This is such a fun production. You can’t tell because he is seated, but Geoff is wearing pink shorts that match Ashley‘s since he’s playing a female lead there. Also the portion with the rose petals had to be filmed with everything going double speed so that when they slowed it down for the video the rose petals would be floating by rather than just blasting into their faces which is what really was happening🌸(To get the petals to move fast enough so they didn’t drop to the ground and also to get Ashley’s hair to flow like that they actually had to use not only a fan but a leaf blower!) But even with thise pink shorts, Cesar and Layne stole the show. Between Cesar’s facial expressions and reactions, and Layne not only beatboxing but rapping Dolores‘s lines and providing the bass line when Geoff was busy, they were a powerhouse.
That part where she sings, "You telling this story or am I?!" His rapid response is, "I am sorry Mi Vida go on!" Mi Vida means "My Life" as in, my love, my life, my darling, my wife, etc. Pretty sure bet that it was also HIS wedding day.
Props to you - a terrific bass in your own right - to appreciate what other basses can do as well. I love Geoff's work, but I really appreciate the attention YOU give to his work, too.
The snare Layne is using in this song is called a spit snare in beatboxing and is made by pressing your lips together and forcing air through them. Codfish has a really good example of a clean spit snare
Range is certainly a factor when determining voice type, but what's even more important is comfortable range (basically meaning what you can do all day every day), and vocal weight/timbre/color/etc. To me he has always had the vocal quality of a tenor, despite being able to sing in the bass range (which is probably done with morning voice for notes like C2)
I love watching your reactions as you truly love and appreciate these songs in not only your facial reactions, but also in technique. I’ve truly learned so much from these videos. Thank you for sharing!
Amazing Reaction again Peter!!! I got a correction tho: Layne is actually a baritone he can hit a D2 comfortably and in this video in 16:12 Layne was singing the bass line where he hit a C2 while Geoff was singing and Layne's lowest chest note is a B1. He has G1 with both inward bass and throat bass and has and E1 in lip buzzing
Glad you enjoyed it! Range is certainly an important factor when determining a voice type, but two even more important factors are comfortable range (basically meaning what you can do all day every day), and vocal weight/color/timbre/etc. -- to me Layne's vocal timbre and weight has always sounded like tenor, despite him being able to sing in the bass range on occasion. I'm friends with a tenor named Casper Fox (who you might've seen in Tomi P videos), who has recorded down to A1 in chest, but is still definitely a tenor based on the most important factors
This is just fun here and in the movie. Wish Voice play would make Ashley a permanent part of the group. When they were on the Sing Off they had a female in the group. Love them and look forward to what they come up with next, oh yeah, you too 😊
That was awesome thank you so much! I always learn something new listening to you and it adds another dimension to my enjoyment of Voiceplay. The time goes by and I don't think you need to worry about going long because there is so much value in your break downs.
Another fun R & A! I caught a couple of details I missed when I watched the premiere, which was fun. Yay for having the Pit Vipers back! I kind of missed them the last few times.*Blows kiss back* Thank you!
I originally found you through UA-cam randomly recommending a The Bass Gang Panic at the disco video, I really enjoy your breakdown of Voiceplay’s videos and I enjoy your voice so that’s why I’ve subscribed
Just discovered your channel, gonna look more into it. When I watch other vocal experts react, they don’t pay as much attention to the specifics of what Layne or Geoff are doing as you, so I’m glad to see someone do them justice (especially Layne).
Such a fun rendition, it's really exceptional. Love the display of their incredible talents through it. Thanks for showcasing then through you analysis!
Nice job, Peter. I don't know how I missed this one when you first did this analysis. But here I am twelve hours after listening to this and waking up in the middle of the night with the song as an earworm!
Love the reactions to these videos Peter. I’m glad that you go in depth in these videos rather than just say “that was amazing” and making faces through it. One I think you might enjoy and would love to watch you react to is voice plays cover of little mermaid medley.
Once again watched their debut then your reaction analysis. Totally amazing job done by Voice Play and Ashley again. I seriously need to watch this movie this week!! Thank u as always for another great analysis!!
I enjoy your content, hearing your technical opinions on the music/singers. Also the fact that youre just vibing with the music to include your facial expressions make for a great video. Keep it up!
Ya'll need a clock timer so you don't have to rush the end! Double Pit Vipers - woohoo. I think Geoff wearing the same blouse as Ashley was an utter scream!
For me always a highlight, when Layne moves his big eyes to the left and right and looks at the respective people, priceless 👀👀😂😂👍👍👍I love these people 💖💖🙏You always put it in a nutshell 👍👍💋
What a great reaction/analysis! I knew it would be awesome-this is why I look forward to hearing your take on these songs. You’re great at this, Peter! When I watched your reaction to the Encanto original I could see you thinking what you’d do with the bass line, so I knew you’d love what Layne/Geoff did here. It’d be great fun to either hear you do a short (Marwan just did one) on this, or even hear a Bass Gang version of this. Speaking of, when are we going to get to see a new Bass Gang video?
Thanks for doing this one so fast! I think they all did an incredible job in every aspect! 🔥💯😍 It's unfair that the song goes so fast, and there's so much happening, that it doesn't give us time to laugh at what's going on! 🤣
Not having seen the movie this is from-I thank you for the info bits you did mention. I enjoy your videos. I'd like to think I get to learn something beyond the piano lessons I had as a kid. 😃
Please do a reaction video of Voice Plays version of The Dragonborn Comes . You can hear the thump thump thump during & at the end of the song when they walk away. Layne. I noticed Layne did the thump thump thump at the end of this video as be well . He & Eli sometimes does an undertone for Geoff while he is singing as well.
It sounds to me like the snare Layne is using that you were talking about at 6:40 -ish is the BMG snare, also sometimes called a spit snare because of how it is produced. In case anyone wants to look up other examples :) I agree, I wish I could do this snare too!
My first time listening to voice play and I was pleasantly surprised. At first I thought it was a mocking parody until they sounded really good. It didn’t convey the same level of excitement, emotion or energy as the original but I don’t think that was their intention anyway. Thoroughly enjoyed their effort and colourful vibe though.
If you want more bass tings to evaluate, look up the beatbox scene(Swissbeatbox and Beatbox international). You’ll get content for DAYS trying to understand how they pull off some of those vocals.
Love the reaction, hate the timer. lol Might have to become a patreon to help you get a different camera. :D Was surprised at a couple of things you didn't comment on, one has been covered by other people (Layne) and the other I'll chalk up to being rushed. Looking forward to more reactions!!
So I might be a little late to watch your videos (Great analysis btw!) In case you're curious what's the snare layne Use , I usually call it Spit Snare, because that's how it looks, Try to spit the air from your mouth but hold it with your low lips (idk what's that called) and release some air from your lips while you keep your lips tight! That's how i get the snare , I kinda like that snare if i wanna mess around with trap beats 😅
It was Layne doing the deep thump thump thump thump sound. Watch more closely at Geoff's lips & face. You can tell Geoff is doing a smooth bass sound while Layne is filling in with thumping sound. Layne does the same thing when Geoff turns around & looks at Ashley . At the end Eli & Cesar hit the high note then Ashley joins in. Also at the very end Layne says ( don't talk about him no more ).
Love what ya do brother. But I'm a little surprised you didn't mention Layne taking over the bass line during Ashley and Geoff's solo part. When the petal are flying around. That's Layne on bass. For most of it anyway. You can see Geoff watching him

What? No link to your video on the original? :)
@@maudglazbrooke1287 Just added it to the description! Thanks for the suggestion
@@PeterBarber "Suggestion"? 🤣 nicely played!
The boy, that shapeshifts, is Camilo. And he's supposedly 19, so not so little 😉 The perfect girl with the flowers is Isabela.
When are you and the bass gang doing more stuff peter
Geoff really pranked us in this part and it's really funny to see people's reactions watching it for the first time.😂😂😂
So Layne is actually classified as a baritone, and he sometimes does bass harmony with Geoff. He even covered Evil Like Me on his own channel, and he pulled out some fat exposed D2s in chest voice that made me inexplicably proud
Yup and he ended this cover with a couple of false fold subharmonics (G1 and C2).
Layne's lower range is underrated as fuck.
It's impressive that he has that range, but it's worth mentioning that it's not unheard of for tenors to be able to sing in the bass range, especially with morning voice -- I'm really going off the weight and color of his voice rather than range
@@PeterBarber his voice imo, is similar to someone like Peter Hollens, tenor with good low range.
@@PeterBarber i agree...I am generally a tenor...but I can hit some baritone, and even bass notes
that is true....my morning voice is way more capable than my afternoon voice.
Layne outdid himself with this arrangement. Picking the right person for a particular part. So funny with that twisted sense of humor. That part in the movie is Tia Pepa and Tio Felix, and yes, it was their wedding to each other.
I sure hope Ashley and Cesar's wedding day wasn't like that...😜 lol.
When Geoff takes over after Ashley durning the female lead, note his costume change and the faces of the others (especially Cesar)
Laynes side eye was pretty funny too.
Cesar ends up with a petal stuck to his face and never breaks character. 🌸
Ashley has this look on her face like, How dare you! 😂
16:02 I think you didn't realize that Layne is actually singing the bass line, getting down to a nice C2 during Geoff's line
It’s really cool what Layne can do, a really damn good beat boxer, along with a five octave range
Layne's vocals+perc is on POINT during this whole video. SO blown away by it.
Btw Peter, Geoff mentioned that he watched your reaction to their Dragonborn Comes cover. Sounded like he enjoyed it!
You might enjoy the 'Little Mermaid Medley'. Blue Geoff as Ursula. Plus he goes up into darn near a rock scream.
Geoff rock scream in the queen medley is my favourite
Geoff has what it takes to be a Disney Princess 😁😁
Or a Disney villain
@@marshayoung9387 It was actually a goat screaming.
No lie when I first watched that part I nearly choked on my lunch from laughing

Does this make Geoff a Disney Princess now?
Of course! Just look at that hair!
