This is very good animation that captures the essence of the battle, interwoven with stock footage from the war, none of which appears to be from the actual battle. That said, some corrections and additional information are in order.
The Yamato task group consisted of the battleship, light cruiser Yahagi and eight destroyers. None of the ships were expected to survive the mission. A total of 386 aircraft from Task Force 58 were launched, including 98 torpedo bombers. None of the fighters attacked with rockets, although all Japanese ships were strafed by fighters to suppress anti-aircraft fire. No ships fired torpedoes. The American carriers were organized into four task groups, each with four or five carriers. Carriers operated with about a mile of open water between individual ships. The number of torpedoes and bombs that hit Yamato is disputed. It was at least a dozen of each, and probably many more. The san-shikidon antiaircraft shells fired from Yamato's main battery guns were ineffective. Yamato was still making 7 knots when she began to capsize. She rolled to port 35 degrees while still underway, an amazing performance. After about an hour and a half of battle, she rolled completely over and sank. Magazine explosions broke the ship into three major pieces. The Yahagi sank before Yamato, as well as four of the eight destroyers. 369 Japanese sailors were rescued from the water by the remaining destroyers. 3,063 went down with Yamato, and 1,187 from the other ships. Ten American aircraft were shot down, with a loss of 12 pilots and aircrew. In 1985, the wreck of Yamato was discovered in 1,100 feet of water and photographed. No attempt was made to recover any parts of the ship, nor did the discovery provide any substantial new information regarding its sinking.
The reason the battle animation is because he stole this video from wargaming.net

What's the track at 4:35??
Interesting but a couple of notes. The 18.1 guns were of little use at surface level against aircraft. The Japanese did have a "beehive" shell designed to be fired up and fragment among a group of enemy planes. Also, the carriers didn't cruise like that and had support ships nearby. None were anywhere near the site of the sinking. Finally, there was no Japanese air support and the American only lost 10 aircraft in the overall attack. The Yamato was on a one way mission to ground itself as a fortress in the battle at Okinawa.
Also scenes from the yamoto movie to
Feels like this is chinese music lol, or maybe some.....palace music in the beginning
One of the great what ifs of Naval combat. The Mighty Mo vs Yamato.
Not really. Believe it would not, Yamato’s 18 inch guns is actually not as powerful as it first appeared. Barrel length, metallurgy and powder quality all play into this to the point Iowa’s 16 inchers were just as powerful. Same with armor. Iowas May have thinner armor, but due to the fact Japanese metallurgy wasn’t nearly as good as the U.S., they had use thicker armor to compensate. But most of all, late war U.S. battleships all had state of the art radar directed fire control systems with the first computers to calculate range and deflection! This meant the Iowas can fire from further ranges, hit first, and hit often. This is huge since it’s proven the first guy who hit first and hit often is usually the winner.
@Robert Bents What about the Yamato vs the Montana?
The advanced fire control on the Iowa would have given us the edge, especially at night. The Japanese had awesome night torpedo tactics, but lagged at night on accurate primary battery fire.
What would have happened if the Bismarck or tirpitz would have met the Yamato?

Yamato was the largest Battleship, but it was never used for its intended purpose, as Aircraft Carriers had taken the place of Battleships as the main combat ships. At least Americans used their Battleships to bombard island outposts to be invaded, but this one, was always kept in reserve, for a Naval Gunnery contest that never took place.

However, it's very well done and rest in peace to all those who lost their lives this day.
The loss of that ship was the end of the Japanise navy , it was devastating to the moral of the Japanise people .
They knew they had lost the war when that ship sank.

Japan lost the war when they lost the 4 aircraft carriers at Midway that was the turning point, plus Japan didn't have the resources to contest USA, Yamamoto knew that very well but his concerns were ignored
the Japanese navy was done at Leyte Gulf
The most devastating thing for its survived crews wasn't the sinking of the Yamato itself... But the utter shame, disgust and humiliation they've felt after Ten-Ichi-Go and the War. Most of its survived crews had been either silent or kept themselves hidden from public. Some who were brave enough to live a normal life experienced being humiliated, cursed and even taunted on why they still have the guts to be alive and going out in public.
They should've gone with the Yamato... They should've died along with their comrades, they should've never came back to their homeland.
Until now, those surviving crews still have those thoughts.
Nicely put together exciting video ... Well done!!! 👍👍👍👍. Great job. Awesome footages!!
I wonder why these ships are not protected with a all around layers of nets, to resist the torpedo attacks. The nets should be hanged some 30 mts away with some cantelever poles and should be dense and in layers. Even if the torpedo cuts of the nets then also the propeller will get entangled in some hanging ropes, which can change their direction, speed or even can stop them. May be this idea seems very ridiculous, but even though, just a thought.
Yamato was strong like hell.
yep
Yamato and her escorts were sent on an intentional suicide mission with no air support and the Japanese high command didn't even let the crew know.
What were they thinking? They gained nothing by sending this magnificent ship to her tomb
I highly doubt that the US would have let the Yamato live anyway. Either she would have been bombed in port, or, if she had survived the war, would most likely have been used as target practice at Bikini Atoll.
The Japanese knew they were outclassed. However the Yamato had the largest guns with the largest range of any battleship. It also boasted air defence from four carriers. The Japanese knew the vulnerability to air power but if they could get close enough they could outgun with relative impunity. Unfortunately the sheer might of the American planes penetrated the defence. In effect what else could the Japanese do?
The american were too scared to send an iow to face it
It would rip it apart
@@negan_lq9499 The Americans were smart enough to know the day of the battleship had passed and the day of the aircraft carrier had dawned. That's why the five Montana Class ships (Montana, Ohio, Maine, New Hampshire, and Louisiana), which would at least have been a better match against the Yamato than the Iowas were, weren't completed. Our Navy wasn't run by hidebound traditionalists who put more importance on dying with honor than in actually winning the battle or the war.

Wasnt this, technically, the only voyage of Yamato? BTY…. I am going to raise her and transform into a space machine and we will be the Star Blazers😁👍
She was at Midway as a HQ ship. Never fired a shot
Nope, She and Her sistership Musashi saw dozens voyages throughout her career. The both of them would often serve as troop transports, and Musashi participated in several failed attempts to counteract American carrier raids. Yamato served in the battle of Midway, and both ships served in the battle of the Philippine sea, but did not encounter enemy forces. Both ships would sail out for operation Sho Go (aka, the battle of Leyte Gulf), and would be encountered by enemy aircraft. Yamato would dodge most of the attacks during her first action, but proved to be the more fortunate of the sisters, as Musashi was sunk over 4 hours by 17 bombs and 19 torpedoes. The following day, Yamato came into firing range of Taffy 3, a small troop landing support force consisting of various American escort carriers, destroyers, and destroyer escorts. This would be Yamato's first and only time engaging enemy ships, damaging the escort carrier White Plains, and Sinking the escort carrier Gambier Bay and the Destroyers Johnston and Hoel. Finally, you should know about Yamato's famous Banzai charge mission, where she was sunk.
@@D.AKULA_TK208 I have a few corrections. No CVLs and cruisers were present at the battle of Samar, and Musashi had been sunk a day earlier, meaning that only Yamato took part in the battle
@@metaknight115 Battle off Samar they were Destroyer Escorts 3 destroyers and CVE's Escort Carriers know as Taffy 3
This was literally a suicide mission which everyone knew would achieve nothing and cost thousands of lives.
The navy tops believed Yamato must see its end in a battle. The exact expression they used about the operation is, “To give her a place to die.”
Japan is building the space battleship Yamato secretly in the sunken underground as a Yamato project.
Hub mivie
Americans utilized the weakness of mighty yamato: air attack. Its big gun where so heavy and hard to move that planes easily out paced them. Imagine if it had modern automatic operability.
if the task force 58/op ten-go did not happen, the modern auto operability is possible

I always enjoy a good cinematic video, nice work man. hoping to see more
Yamato came close to sinking several American ships at Leyte gulf. For an unknown reason she broke off the engagement and retreated. She would have been a wolf in the sheep's pen, slaughtering the nearly defenseless transports, but the destroyer escorts and planes from the escort carriers fought fiercely and sacrificed themselves to protect the landing.
Brian Kelly she turned away due to torpedoes and never turned back
The reason is well known. The American destroyers and destroyer escorts of Taffy Three, along with every plane that could get into the air attacked his fleet with such reckless abandon that Admiral Kurita thought that he was being lured into a trap and ordered the retreat. By the way, in 1968 69 I served aboard USS Ticonderoga under Captain Richard Fowler who won the Navy Cross at Leyte Gulf for flying from carrier to carrier, rounding up stray planes and pilots and leading them in dummy bombing and torpedo attacks against Kurita's fleet.
Yamato herself sank or helped to sink three of the four US ships lost during the surface engagement, the escort carrier Gambier Bay and the destroyers Johnston and Hoel.
@@kkhagerty6315 Common myth. Yamato was only taken out of the battle for 20 minutes before firing on the US fleet again, where she sank the escort carrier Gambier Bay and contributed to the sinking the destroyer Hoel.

That was the last possible defence that could be pursued by the Imperial Japanese Navy. The last attack sank her.
Its overkill. An entire fleet including submarine hunters against one super battleship. Just like the Musashi, but its only a small armada and the Musashi is unarmed. Its shells and ammunitions were unloaded for it is loaded with something else. Now Microsoft Boss is secretly recovering it off San Bernardino Straight, Philippines.
do one about the yamato turning tail and running after contacting destroyer escorts at the battle of leyte gulf
Lmao about that one BUT you also have to consider that Yamato's sister ship was sunk the day before. And it didn't JUST SINK EITHER!!! It was blown in half before it capsized & sunk. I'm sure anyone & everyone who witnessed it were "blown away" by all that happened & didn't want the Yamato to experience a similar fate.
She did not retreat due to those ships. She retreated because of American carrier aircraft getting involved in the battle
Maybe being posted on the internet

Yes. Because the US was damn lucky to catch all the Japanese carriers without protection. Weather was a bitch...
no, Yamato had none, no air cover whatsoever, sorry to have to ruin your fantasy battle but those are facts.
@@justusstern9125 facts
The US sent almost 300 attack aircraft after her when they sunk her. To put it in perspective during the decisive engagement of the battle of Midway where the Japanese lost 4 carriers. The US had at the peak of the battle maybe 100 aircraft attacking the 4 carriers, due to some not finding the fleet and many others being shot down in earlier engagements in smaller numbers..
I read in one book that when the Yamato blew up, her explosion was able to be seen from Japan.
cuz they're not far from japan. but yes the explosion is like a nuclear bomb with smaller shockwave but larger explosion site.
The great ship - the ultimate "classic" battleship - took a savage punishment to finally go down. I wonder if any of her punishers could have survived a third of what Yamato and Musashi took.
I am not really sure what question you are trying to ask but it seems like you are asking something about if the Americans could withstand such an attack......If that is what you are asking, have you ever heard of the attack on Pear Harbor?
Lots of aircraft against battleships! Battleships sinking, about 3000 dead people.
I believe the "Punishers" as you called them know all about how that felt.
What individual ships at Pearl Harbor sustained some 10 torpedoes for hours in the open sea?
@@TheGrenadier97 Again, your question is very confusing. How can a ship inside Pear Harbor be attacked like a ship out at sea? There is a big difference between a ship that is moving and able to zig-zag, vs a ship that is tied up at the dock and currently not at war.
The crew on board the Japanese battleships knew they were at war.....The crew on board the USS Arizona did not know they were at war.
Please try to explain the premise of your original question. Are you under the impression that American pilots are "punishers" but Japanese pilots are not?
My comment is simple: two japanese ships were attacked by much numerous enemies and took much more damage than any two american battleships in a similar situation or in any other event could have sustained for half the time.

OK gotta call BS on a few things here. The Japanese AA Fire was so bad that they only shot down 10 US planes out of over 400 swarming them. Not Yamato, the entire Ten-Go task force. The Americans had complete air superiority. (Did any Japanese Aircraft manage to provide even token air cover? ) The US had several advanced Radar Equipped Coronado Flying Boats just circling the Japanese fleet outside of gun range, pretty much all day. Sort of the Forerunners of the E-2C Hawkeyes. The American Attackers were literally queue'd up in a holding pattern over Yamamoto awaiting their turn to go in. The Fighter's got so bored with nothing to shoot at that they started cycling them in with the bombers to unload some ammo onto the hapless AA Gunners and Deck crews. (The 5" Rockets were spectacular for that apparently)
