My girlfriend has never had any interest in general pop culture (and is from India) so she had no idea about the sixth sense ending so we recently watched it and it was pretty awesome seeing an adult react to the ending twist. It still holds up so well
While it’s more on the action side than horror, Train to Busan has a phenomenal ending. It’s so heartbreaking and the acting from the little girl is sooooo good. That movie hurt. Also have to mention the original Texas chain saw massacre, classic iconic ending
My favorites are The Mist and the UK Descent. They’re so fucking devastating and they stick with you, leaving the theater feeling empty. Nothing is better than the end of the original Nightmare On Elm Street of course.
I know it’s cliche because everybody talks about it, but the ending of the original Halloween is so chilling. Doctor Loomis looking over the balcony only to see Myers gone is still frightening to this day. His reaction is so serious; it’s like he isn’t surprised that Michael was able to walk off as if nothing happened. There’s no real resolution, we just know that the shape is still out there. The O.G. Texas Chainsaw Massacre also has a brutal ending with Sally driving off in the truck, and Leatherface swinging his chainsaw in anger. You really feel the sunny Texas heat with that ending shot, it’s morbidly beautiful. I love 70s horror.
The ending of Halloween is why I love the movie. It adds so much to the movie because it makes Michael a truly ghostly figure. He’s just gone with no trace. Is he supernatural and just disappeared, or is he just down the street? And it makes rewatching the film even creepier because that ambiguity for an ending makes it even more ambiguous on rewatch.
Because I have seen way too many slashers and just seen Halloween like 3 years ago. The ending didn't really do anything for me. At that point it was cliche
Black Christmas ending has stuck with me since I've seen it. The girl dead in the attic, the slow pan from the window just captures something that sticks with you.
I watched this video earlier and I listened to you and did not let you spoil sleepaway camp. Me and my wife just watched it and we just died laughing at that ending 😂😂
My brother was just really confused when we first saw it, even though I sort of figured the twist due to scrolling through horror lists and maybe getting some hints from people. I went into the movie decently sure how it would end, but I didn’t get it confirmed until watching it. Never heard anyone laugh about it tho
Seven is a horror movie. So many of these we agree on. Jeepers Creepers and Drag Me to Hell do not get enough love. Some of my favorites on your list. My friend embarrassed me so bad when he stood up at yelled at the screen at the end of Sleepaway Camp.
One I would definitely consider for this list is Final Destination 5. I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t seen it but…it’s one of the reasons why it’s my favorite of that whole series
I'll never forget being in the theater watching Final Destination 5. When THAT ending happens, I lost my mind, and the audience reaction to it was *chef's kiss*
u leave out Saw!? Jigsaw getting up at the very end who the audience think is dead for the whole movie!?! Bro!! People still talk about the ending today of how shocking it was
Love the list. The first time I saw Sleepaway Camp, my cousin had it on VHS, and I took it to my friend Amanda's house for her 10th birthday sleepover. Her parents were very strict and religious and they were having a Bible study meeting that night so they said we could watch movies and they left us alone for a while so I put that movie in and Amanda's mom walked in right at the end at the pivitol moment and she screamed and called my parents to come pick me up and me and Amanda weren't allowed to hang out anymore (but we did anyway)
To me Child's Play 2 was my favorite because Chucky FINALLY has Andy perfectly where he needs him to be and does his Dumballa chant with that EPIC score backing him up but ....... It is too LATE Brad Dourif the EXPLODES his vocal cord with the amount o rage that Charles is letting out of Chucky and at this point NOTHING to loose he is gonna KILL Andy and Kyle even if it THE LAST THIS HE"LL DO
@@beautifulmidnight True as hell also I LOVE when Chucky's voice croacked when he yelled "WHAT THE HELL" then Kyle just fucking crushes him with boxes of himself
No twist or 'clever' ending but the original 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' with Leatherface' swinging the chainsaw while spinning and twirling in a bizarre dance with the sound of the chainsaw and then the screen going silent and black.
Sleepaway Camp is definitely carried by it’s ending. It’s definitely not as strong of a film compared to stuff like The Prowler, My Bloody Valentine, or House on Sorority Row, but that ending makes an impression. Although, my brother does not like Sleepaway Camp at all, although “eat shit and live” we quote all of the time. Greatest quote in cinematic history.
TBH, I actually prefer Sleepaway Camp to both My Bloody Valentine and House on Sorority Row. Even if you remove the ending, it hits the "summer camp slasher" beats really well. I have no complaints with those narrative beats. If you reduce House on Sorority Row to what it is, fundamentally, a college slasher, and analyze just the beats, I always found them a bit boring. My favorite college slasher is the Scream franchise for comparison. With My Bloody Valentine, fundamentally a holiday slasher, again, it doesn't really do it for me; it's a bit boring actually compared to my favorite Holiday Slasher (Halloween). So, even though Sleepaway Camp isn't a GREAT film, it's fundamentally good and more than that, not boring. The other two films bore me after the first watch.
@@shebreathesingold8043 yeah, I find Sleepaway Camp more boring than either of those two films. It’s fundamentally a summer camp comedy invaded by a slasher movie, which is not an inherently bad idea, the problem is that a summer camp comedy, it is only okay, and I don’t think the horror elements are implemented that well in that storyline. The only real good part about the movie is Angela herself, who is an interesting character, but one character itself cannot save a film. House on Sorority Row is excellent as far as tension, mystery and plot structure you can ask for in an 80s slasher. And My Bloody Valentine is just the best 80s slasher every made (unless Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker; Alone in the Dark; Der Fan; or April Fools Day manage to overtake it) so I definitely disagree with that. Even considering Summer Camp Slashers, Friday the 13th Part 2 and The Burning are better than Sleepaway Camp.
Great list! Black Christmas, Halloween, and The Thing are on mine. I'd also add 1408 to mine. That last scene when he's holding the burnt up recorder and it plays his daughter's voice, the wife looks over and believes him. Chilling.
Great video as per usual. In a previous one, about great horror movie openings, you raved about When a Stranger Calls and it's " the calls are coming from inside the house" - I was hoping that you would credit Black Christmas for using (maybe creating) this excellent shock reveal, as it predated When a stranger Calls by 5 years. Good stuff nevertheless.
@@xbonedog Be warned that it's a bad movie. It is one of Eli Roth's favorite films tho for it's wackiness. It's probably the most misogynistic slashers with loads of nudity and loads of gore with dumb women dying. I hate it, but a lot of people love it.
Amazing list Cody! Agree with every single take! Sleepaway Camp has always been a favorite of mine. I'll never forget the ending the first time I saw it when I was a kid, lol. I recently just watched it with my wife and it was her first time watching and she loved it also!
Some of the all-time favourites are ones you mentioned eg The Thing, Evil Dead, Se7en. Some of the more recent ones I've loved are Talk to Me, Pearl and Godzilla Minus One (I know I'm gonna get its not a horror movie from some people) Great video Cody! Still need to check Frailty out so skipped that section😄
Underrated ending of Sinister Fact that leaving the house sealed the family's fate was a cool spin on the whole "why don't they just leave the house" trope. Ending of the first Strangers was also quite chilling
My top 10: 1. Prince of Darkness 2. Dawn of the Dead (2004) 3. 30 Days of Night 4. Phantasm 5. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) 6. Psycho II 7. Halloween III: Season of the Witch 8. Zodiac 9. Fallen 10. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
I love the ending of The Babadook and thought it was perfect for that movie. It’s a beautiful way to show how grief trauma will *always* stay with you, but you can learn to tame that monster and co-exist peacefully with it. Just like you said with The Sixth Sense, it’s such a dark movie that the hopeful ending is VERY welcome.
Don't know if this movie is on Cody's radar, but I've always loved Who Framed Roger Rabbit. While not a horror film, it's definitely a gem and the reveal of the film's villain is very much horror movie-esque. Also very much like Sleepaway Camp, it's one of the reveals you do not see coming.
There’s a few other ones that I would definitely put on the list. Rosemarys Baby is one. Mia Farrows face has stuck with me. Don’t Look Now legit sent chills down my spine. The directors cut of The Butterfly Effect might be the most shocking ending I’ve ever seen to be honest. And more recently, Late Night with the Devil is one of my favourites. Sort of like Frailty, each new piece of information enhances the last, until the extremely clever final shot (so it is done), where everything comes into view. Great for rewatches.
My favorite horror movie ending is the ending of Halloween 4. Jamie standing on the stairs looking evil in the clown costume holding the bloody scissors. Loomis screaming "NO! NO! NO!" And everyone else looking shocked and horrified.
Same here. I was expecting the ending of Halloween 4 to also make the list because it’s definitely one that really stayed with me just like the ending of Sleepaway Camp in that they’re both shocking yet equally satisfying as far as I’m concerned.
@@thomasffrench3639I agree with you 100% percent about that! The only horror film ending i find to be better than John Carpenter’s Halloween is the 1974 original Black Christmas. Talk about creepy, terrifying, and bone chilling. The movie is classic horror cinema right there from Bob Clark and yet it’s outrageously underrated to this very day.
@@thomasffrench3639 Perhaps slightly more popular within the last fifty years but not every horror fan has or ever wants to see Black Christmas, that’s the problem. Awesome list, Cody. Love your honesty and insight into these movies. Don't always agree with you (Hereditary and Midsommar), but we do both have the same favorite horror movie, The Thing 2011 ;-) Just a thought, one way to avoid spoilers and to keep us lazy is to put chapters in your video.
For me personally, I think my favourite horror movie ending is The Mist. They leave the store to try and make it on their own, they run out of gas, they have nowhere to go, whatever's in that mist is probably going to reach them... and they have a way out. A single gun, with four bullets, but five people. And so our main character volunteers to be torn to shreds but grant mercy to everyone else, *including his own son.* That's already bleak and depressing enough, but then he exits the car... and a tank rolls up out of the mist, followed by a truck full of survivors, including one from the beginning of the film. He had just murdered his friends and son mere moments away from rescue. And *then* the movie ends. Holy shit dude, I was floored when I saw that for the first time, and then the next day, I watched it with my brother, who had also not seen or heard of the film, and I got to see his reaction. I've seen a lot of horror films; there's a lot of great endings, including most of the ones on your list, IMO (Sleepaway's the only one I don't really like). But I don't think anything will ever top the emotional impact of The Mist for me.
I love the ending to The Omen (1976) from the point where we get a slow motion reveal of the 666 on Damien's head. Then all Hell breaks loose, and Gregory Peck and Billie Whitelaw fight. Of course there's that Damien lives shot at the very end too. Nicely photographed by DP Gil Taylor Se7en is definitely a horror movie. Its filled with horrific scenes, and its nerve shredding.
I remember watching “Sleep Away Camp” when I was probably 10 and it was 3:00 a.m. that ending still image of Angela was the most frightening thing I’ve ever seen and I couldn’t sleep and was afraid to
While it may not be considered "horror" and I know most people didn't like it - I LOVE the ending to "Enemy" (2013) and the insidious implications it has on the rest of the film!
May not be purely horror, BUT...... The ending for "A promising young women' took ages for me to get over. I kept thinking about it for weeks. I think as an ending it is one of the best out there.
Got to recently see three friends react to the ending of Seven because they all had not seen it and I had multiple times. I just had the biggest smile on my face once the reveal happens and I was just watching all of their jaws drop. It was great.
The Mist (2007) will always have the best ending to a horror movie. It's such a massive gut punch, yet oddly and thematically fitting.

11:56 what i got from this was. He seen too much. When he seen the body being dumped i think the creeper needed to take his eyes 😄
Summer of 84 will always haunt me
I know it’s cliche because everybody talks about it, but the ending of the original Halloween is so chilling.
Totally agree there’s a reason why that movie is so beloved today. Carpenter’s a genius.
Because I have seen way too many slashers and just seen Halloween like 3 years ago. The ending didn't really do anything for me. At that point it was cliche
Yeah that’s understandable. The whole “killer’s still out there” trope has been kinda overplayed, but I gotta admire the few films that did it first.
@@maskedman5657which is fair, but you gotta respect it for birthing that slasher trope and so many others
Black Christmas ending has stuck with me since I've seen it. The girl dead in the attic, the slow pan from the window just captures something that sticks with you.
Could you do the top 10 horror openings? I feel you have already done this but if you havent i would be interested in seeing you make a video on it.
It's obviously Seed of Chucky 😂
Ghost ship and creeper jeers for great openings!
That’s a great idea! I’d go with The Ninth Gate
Scream
Jeepers creepers doesnt get loce because of the pdf file
One I would definitely consider for this list is Final Destination 5. I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t seen it but…it’s one of the reasons why it’s my favorite of that whole series
[● Oh hell yeah, super underrated.]
Final Destination isn't my favorite franchise but the fifth movies ending was just perfect in so many ways.
I'll never forget being in the theater watching Final Destination 5.
When THAT ending happens, I lost my mind, and the audience reaction to it was *chef's kiss*
u leave out Saw!? Jigsaw getting up at the very end who the audience think is dead for the whole movie!?! Bro!! People still talk about the ending today of how shocking it was
(*Reaches in bad guys pocket. Finds another tape recorder.*)
"HELLO ZEPP"
Relax, everyone has there opinions, and it doesn't help that Cody really is not a Carey Elways fan, that's one reason why.
@@RobertParks-h7r still shouldn’t leave out ‘that ending’ 🙈
How can you leave out anything when it's your own personal opinion unless he had 9 things listed and this was supposed to be #10 ??? 🤔
@@dominique2o06he also didn’t have any movies from this century though…
The Descent, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday The 13th, Krampus, Midsommar, Saw, Drag Me To Hell
Agree on the Descent - the UK version.
To me Child's Play 2 was my favorite because
Chucky FINALLY has Andy perfectly where he needs him to be and does his Dumballa chant with that EPIC score backing him up but .......
It is too LATE
Brad Dourif the EXPLODES his vocal cord with the amount o rage that Charles is letting out of Chucky and at this point NOTHING to loose he is gonna KILL Andy and Kyle even if it THE LAST THIS HE"LL DO
Goddamn, Brad Dourif is underrated as hell.
The sheer rage he’s able to pull out of his voice is just amazing.
@@beautifulmidnight True as hell also I LOVE when Chucky's voice croacked when he yelled "WHAT THE HELL" then Kyle just fucking crushes him with boxes of himself
Couldn't agree more with everything you said, the "DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUVE DONE" always gives me chills
No twist or 'clever' ending but the original 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' with Leatherface' swinging the chainsaw while spinning and twirling in a bizarre dance with the sound of the chainsaw and then the screen going silent and black.
Iconic
I just discovered your channel, and really enjoying it.
I know alot of people didn't like sequels but The Grudge 2 kinda floored me to be honest.
how does that one end? I forgot.
I loved your choices. It couldn´t be better. Those endings are exactlly what we want in a horror movie!
Has anyone here seen Pieces? That ending is insane man. No like twists or satisfying narrative payoff, it’s just insane
That's a great pick unfortunately Cody doesn't watch a lot of Gialo films,I believe he's only seen 5,I know Suspiria and Gates of Hell are 2 of them.
Nope but I’ve added it to my own watch list 🤘🏻
@@xbonedog Be warned that it's a bad movie. It is one of Eli Roth's favorite films tho for it's wackiness. It's probably the most misogynistic slashers with loads of nudity and loads of gore with dumb women dying. I hate it, but a lot of people love it.
Jacobs Ladder
That's another great pick,my favorite Tim Robbins performance besides Mystic River.
Easily one of the best endings all of time. I fkn love Jacobs Ladder.
@@kylereno5383 hell yeah
@@RobertParks-h7r don't forget Shawshank
Amazing list Cody! Agree with every single take! Sleepaway Camp has always been a favorite of mine. I'll never forget the ending the first time I saw it when I was a kid, lol. I recently just watched it with my wife and it was her first time watching and she loved it also!
Glad Frailty made this list. Such an underrated flick.
I would have moved Drag Me to Hell further at the top, but kudos. This is a great tier list.
Some of the all-time favourites are ones you mentioned eg The Thing, Evil Dead, Se7en.
Some of the more recent ones I've loved are Talk to Me, Pearl and Godzilla Minus One (I know I'm gonna get its not a horror movie from some people)
Great video Cody! Still need to check Frailty out so skipped that section😄
Underrated ending of Sinister
Fact that leaving the house sealed the family's fate was a cool spin on the whole "why don't they just leave the house" trope.
Ending of the first Strangers was also quite chilling
Very good vid...one of my favorite endings is The Mist. A true horror movie ending
My top 10:
1. Prince of Darkness
2. Dawn of the Dead (2004)
3. 30 Days of Night
4. Phantasm
5. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
6. Psycho II
7. Halloween III: Season of the Witch
8. Zodiac
9. Fallen
10. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
I agree that halloween 3 has a better ending than 78
I love the ending of The Babadook and thought it was perfect for that movie. It’s a beautiful way to show how grief trauma will *always* stay with you, but you can learn to tame that monster and co-exist peacefully with it. Just like you said with The Sixth Sense, it’s such a dark movie that the hopeful ending is VERY welcome.
Brilliant movie!
@@zstevens7it really is! I’ve always been a huge supporter of it.
A Bay of Blood, to this day, is the ONE horror film that flips the switch at the end in a way that's always stuck with me. Bava was phenomenal imo.
Super solid list! I would throw The Mist somewhere in my top 10. So good
"If u gentlemen have the time, i know you been through alot" "I really don't wanna spend the rest of my life, TIED TO THIS FING COUCH!!!" 😂😂😂
Love you bro. Lol.
@@timothymorris157 The problem is that the ending of the original is way better.
@@timothymorris157 I feel like Black Christmas is more popular than what is possible considering how overlooked it was when it came out.
@@thomasffrench3639 Perhaps slightly more popular within the last fifty years but not every horror fan has or ever wants to see Black Christmas, that’s the problem. Honestly i never heard of it until nearly twenty years ago and finally watched it for the first time during the pandemic and loved every second of it! 🎁🎄🔪🩸💀
I fast forwarded past fraility that is the only one I havent seen but will watch this weekend because of the multiple twists you mentioned. I love this list. I would just say mine would probably also include Malignant, the ring , you're next shutter island, saw, the wickerman, fallen, the mist, birdbox and talk to me, Im sure there are a lot more lol. Horror is my favorite genres and there are some really good ones past and present. I'm optimistic there will be even more in the future. Super excited about that.
As far as horror UA-camrs go I almost never hear any of you guys talk about this movie. But Life starring Jake Gyllenhaal amd Ryan Reynolds has a fantastic ending!
I think most people forgot about that movie. Overall it's pretty ok, kinda generic, but the ending was great
Great call on Drag Me to Hell. Remember loving it in theaters in 2009. Here are my top 10 Horror Endings:
10 Saw II (2005)
9 Jeepers Creepers (2001)
8 Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
7 Halloween (1978)
6 Psycho (1960)
5 Shutter Island (2010)
4 Barbarian (2022)
3 Censor (2021)
2 Scream (1996)
HM: The Shining (1980), The Blob (1988)
1 Pearl (2022)
Good work on the list, but the original "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" came out in '74, not 1973.
@@fromtexas2734 Good call, fixed.
Pearl is great, almost made my list
7:50 Billy probably climbed down and killed Jess for not answering the phone since she was sedated.
THE BLOOD RAIN IN EVIL DEAD 2013 IS SO FUCKING AWESOME
Great pulls Cody! I am still working on watching Frailty. Maybe this weekend with my Pops for the holiday. I never thought of Seven as a horror genre but you make great points as to why it fits there. Just remember, opinions are what is in the box 😁
Awesome patreon pick idea. Here are mine -
1. Martyrs (2008)
2. Wes Craven's New Nightmare
3. Halloween 3: Season of the witch
4. Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight
5. Hellraiser 4: Bloodline
6. Jaws
7. Triangle
8. Candyman (original)
9. Coherence
10. When Evil Lurks
This is definitely a list that needs a part 2. 10 more of your favorites please!
Another great video to get me through my night shift, thank you Cody 😂!
Good list!
I'm curious where The Mist ranked (if at all) in that 25+ movie list you initially made.
Awesome list, dude. All of these endings are iconic.
I swear I thought you were gonna put Summer of 84 on this list. Loved that movie!! Would have never watched it if not for your channel!
I honestly forgot about that one (for reasons I can’t explain lol) and it absolutely would’ve made the list.
@@CodyLeachYT a lot of great movies and endings out there. Gotta draw the line somewhere! Great picks tho. Haven't watched Sleepaway Camp yet so skipped that part of the video. Gonna try to watch it tonight!
Hey Cody, huge fan of yours watch every video you do and hopefully I’m trying to be a movie critic myself but I had an idea you know you always do top 10,20 or 100 movies favorites etc.. well you should do a video of top 10,20 or 100 worst movies ever that would be so awesome lol
Yo dude..,Love the video idea. My favorite horror movie ending is the original Terminator ending. By the way, watched Summer of 84 based on your recommendation and loved it.
Righteous list, my man
Awesome list, Cody. Love your honesty and insight into these movies. Don't always agree with you (Hereditary and Midsommar), but we do both have the same favorite horror movie, The Thing 2011 ;-)
Just a thought, one way to avoid spoilers and to keep us lazy is to put chapters in your video.
Was hoping for a video like this
For me personally, I think my favourite horror movie ending is The Mist.
The problem with Sleepaway Camp is the ending is really only the good part of the movie. I think it's a pretty overrated slasher.
I love the ending to The Omen (1976) from the point where we get a slow motion reveal of the 666 on Damien's head. Then all Hell breaks loose, and Gregory Peck and Billie Whitelaw fight. Of course there's that Damien lives shot at the very end too. Nicely photographed by DP Gil Taylor
Se7en is definitely a horror movie. Its filled with horrific scenes, and its nerve shredding.
Really good list. That sleepaway camp ended scared me for life 😂
The ending to the original halloween is the definition of simplicity done perfectly
Prom night had a great ending as well. Makes the movie better imo
YESSSS NEW CODDY VID
Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1978 will always be my favorite horror ending of all time!
I remember watching “Sleep Away Camp” when I was probably 10 and it was 3:00 a.m. that ending still image of Angela was the most frightening thing I’ve ever seen and I couldn’t sleep and was afraid to
15:29 ive seen Sleepaway camp 3times the ending still gets me.
Cody strikes again, just like Jasper said, I was just about to doze of then "oooh, what's this video then?" Woth the sleep loss though.
YESSIR NEW CODY VIDEO DROPPED
While it may not be considered "horror" and I know most people didn't like it - I LOVE the ending to "Enemy" (2013) and the insidious implications it has on the rest of the film!
May not be purely horror, BUT...... The ending for "A promising young women' took ages for me to get over. I kept thinking about it for weeks. I think as an ending it is one of the best out there.
It’s a ballsy ending for sure
Hey Cody, been watching for a while now and every video never fails to entertain me, keep up the grind with the video’s bro ❤
The Descent (Original Ending) blew me away!!!!
Saw 1 Has Left The Chat.
Like Literally One Of The Best Twists In Movies In General EVER. Definitely A Great Ending.
Got to recently see three friends react to the ending of Seven because they all had not seen it and I had multiple times. I just had the biggest smile on my face once the reveal happens and I was just watching all of their jaws drop. It was great.
Had the vid on double speed and forgot… your intro music sounds pretty sweet at double the tempo.
