    Just remember kids, if someone undercuts you, you can always try these three easy tips:
    1) Undercut them back
    2) Buy their stock and resell it at your original price
    3) Memorize their username in your sleep, main a healer, and eventually - eventually, you will be able to watch that pitiful being die at your hands as many times as it takes to quell the unending fury unmatched by even black mage ragers

      Which is, in fact, the correct move. By reducing the price to one less than a multiple of ten, you also reduce the market tax by one, thereby netting you the same profit while making your product slightly more appealing to the consumer.

      That's completely unrealistic in any game with a Marketboard. It's always undercutted by hundreds; if not thousands or millions, of gil. Unfortunately; fortunately for the casuals, gil in XIV is damn near useless compared to other MMOs like FFXI

    • @coranbaker6401

      @ikeaira8701
      Most items in FFXIV don't sell for more than 100, so undercutting by a small margin is fairly normal.
      As for Gil, it's pretty important to have since you need it for teleportation. You'll also need a lot if you don't want to grind out material gathering for crafter quests or if you want to buy a house.

    • @ikeaira8701
      @ikeaira8701 Рік тому +10

      @@coranbaker6401 Gil in XIV is damn near useless, it's basically there for the lazy people and Housing Enthusiast to move to a new plot. You can get Teleport Vouchers or w/e they're called through Hunts, Glam you can craft, and same goes for gear & housing items. Gil has no need at all besides those Gold Mounts used as a gil dump, and a chance at purchasing a Plot.
      Also most items don't sell for more than 100? That's just a flat out lie my dude. Unless you're talking about vendoring to npcs? Then yeah most don't, but Marketboard Prices and Vendoring prices have ALWAYS been massively different from one another, no matter the game.

      To add on to this, if you are going to take this route make sure that you are buying the Allagan/Night pieces from the area that you are currently in. If you end up buying from a city state that you're not currently in then you might end up paying more than what the pieces sell for at a vendor due to tax. You can also teleport to those areas, but double check that the teleport costs plus the current price of the pieces don't equal more than the vendor sell prices. You can and will lose money if you don't check first.

      That doesn’t work very well. If the person who put it up for super cheap sees someone bought it, they’ll do it again.
      And then other people looking for the material will see that it keeps getting sold for super cheap, and so to get those people, other people will start lowering the price of their materials. If the person is persistent enough, it usually does lower the value of the item. And depending on the price, as you pointed out, it can cost way more than it’s worth buying them all off them.

    I usually do a big brain move. In the situation above, for example. Instead of putting up 99 ( rounding it at 2500 each for easier math) for a higher price. I would put up a stack of 10 for say 3000 each. This way, I will get the people who only need a small amount without having to spend more. This way, I am not screwing the market.
    The Downside to this is that it takes up more slots, but they can sell faster, so that is a trade-off.
    What drives me bonkers is when people put up only a few stacks lower than the lowest price. Your stack of 2 will still be bought at a higher price vs the 10 lowest price that has a stack of 99.

Everytime I've asked for a realistic price I eventually get a notification sometime in the same week that it's sold. Trying to metagame hard is a waste of time that could be spent on getting stuff that will sell, or could even be a good pull during a time when no one is interested in farming it (I recently checked a marketboard on my server and the F&F Hairstyle which is usually sitting at 200-300k was suddenly gone from the interest and random people were starting to buy the current standard that was 900k-1mil because there was so few people spending their energy farming Eureka Pyros).

    Then here's me sometimes buying orchestrion rolls from the main cities for like 5k gil and selling them on the market board for 50k
    Seriously, check your world's market board right now for Wailers and Waterwheels Orchestrion Roll. Hell, check your DATA CENTER in general and it will be selling for at LEAST double the price. It's literally like 10 meters from the Gridania aetheryte for 5k gil from the person who sells default clothes.

    Seriously why do people do this? I start to notice after all the videos people make about the issue and realize they do in fact price the materials or whatever your trying to sell a lot lower by either 100 or 300 or so on making it lose value. Do they realize they can make more if they don't do that? I guess as others suggest you can always buy them low and resell then high.

  • @TheGodlikeDragon
    @TheGodlikeDragon Рік тому

    Do not go down the WOW community road, in which they mass report someone just for selling things cheaper than they do. Also, those materials will be sold in about 5 minutes. So one will not have to deal with the competition for long, and the high end crafters are really rich, so they do not care about the high price

  • @Skryabinist
    @Skryabinist Рік тому

    There's absolutely nothing wrong with undercutting with even 90% if it's a crafted item that takes 5 seconds to make and the materials cost next to nothing. I sometimes see people buy my reasonably priced stuff and relist it back at the "market price" and I just put more for sale. And I'm still making a decent profit. For the actually rare stuff sure, ask whatever you want. Even then I personally make a point not to buy from the 1 gil undercutters. If there's a thing I want and the 3 lowest listings are something like 1000000, 999999 and 999998 I will obviously pick the 1000000 gil one. Those other 2 can fight it out for as long as they want. Don't be too greedy, kids.

    I then maybe bought them out and brought my prices all back up to the original price they were supposed to sell for.

    The way I see it, just buy the cheaper ones and sell them at a higher price!
    I’ve noticed that people sometimes do that for one reason to another, such as selling something that is normally over 100k for a much lower price (such as when the highest ranked crit rate Materia sold for over 20k each sometimes someone sells it for only 20 Gil).
    So I consider it a win!

    It's not just an FF thing. It's staggering how MMO players don't understand economics. Everything has a value and selling your supply of the good below market price screws you over, since you get less, and everyone else as now the market has to match your new low. Undercutting only makes sense if you need gold in the next 30 seconds. Otherwise, sell it at the current lowest and get your money within two days. Players undercutting each other all day just lead to a rich veteran buying up the entire auction house to dictate a new, bloated price. It's called resetting and sucks butts.

    I had a friend that was stupidly rich in the game. He would undercut people with 10 of the same item and then buy other people undercut thus lowering the market price.
    Because no one will buy all the 10 200k items and someone will eventually come along and undercut and people will readjust their price because they need gil.
    They would buy those items and rise the price back up to their true profits 🤣
    I ain't approving of what he did to the market but some people are just that rich in this game
