  • Lucy and Yak is a sustainable fashion brand that not only creates cute overalls but also actively works to spread awareness of the current fast fashion issue. So of course I had to find the pinkest pair and try them out for myself. In this full lucy+yak review, I show you my unboxing and walk you through the construction details and even show you a few ways to wear them! I really hope you all enjoy this new style of unboxing video for me as I like it much more than just opening a box and pulling stuff out lol!
    Hi! I'm The Stitchess! I'm an interdisciplinary artist and seamstress. I started sewing when I was 8 and loved it so much I made it the focus of my study in college. After a lifetime of battling severe mental health issues - I found healing in the radical softness and Japanese kawaii communities. As much as I love fashion and clothing, I also think it's important to consider how and where clothing is made. I went fast fashion free at the start of 2019 to voice my concerns over the rapid consumerism gripping the garment industry. By no means am I perfect, but I think it's important to show that change is a process. I believe it is always important to strive to be better, even if perfection is unattainable. Thank you so much for letting me share my art and process with you. I hope we can all grow together.

    I love seeing your perspective as a seamstress when you deconstruct how a garment was made. I’m learning how to sew myself and this was insightful.

    The tag you ripped out is really special to L&Y products- it’s the number of the person who made your dungas in the factories in India and I think they’re working on a directory for the website meaning you can link your number back directly to the person who made them :)

      Yes, I love that so much! Crediting the tailors is so important. Plus there's a little description for each of them and a photo of them. I love it! This is what fashion brands should be like.

    The tag that says 36 actually corresponds to one of the Lucy and Yak workers so you can go on their website and find the person who made your pair of dungas!

    I love this review style! Especially with smaller brands, it would be cooler to see more in depth reviews paired with the tryons!

    I really liked this type of review. A review by a seamstress always feels so much informative. I have been eyeing their pinafores instead of the dungarees because I feel for me the sides may hang a bit to low on the hip area. Definitely a brand I will keep an eye on ^^

    • @TheStitchess
      @TheStitchess  4 роки тому +4

      Yeah, the dip on the sides is the one thing that I think would really make or break these for someone

    Thanks so much for this full review on Lucy and Yak! I'm happy that you included the quality of stitching and the ethical practices in their workshop. Those things matter to me!
    I'm having an awful time at trying to buy plus-size ethical clothing online. Lots of brands I've looked at only go up to size L, but since the pandemic started I've gone up a size to XL. I have to keep reminding myself that my body that is the issue- it's the clothes. :(

    This is a very well-rounded video. Reminds me how much I love my dungarees~! I wouldn't have them now if you hadn't raised the alarm about the sale on your Insta story.
    Thought I'd point out that in addition to Lucy & Yak posting pictures of their tailoring workshop on their website, they also have a UA-cam channel where the founders visit the workers who are excited to see them.
    In regards to the packaging, I read somewhere that Patagonia did a full analysis on the necessity of plastic packaging in their supply chain, and they found that it is unfortunately a necessity since the shipping process has a high wet risk. Paper packaging won't help much in that regard unfortunately.

    • @TheStitchess
      @TheStitchess  4 роки тому +4

      It’s true that plastic is superior when keeping things dry, which helps when crossing continents like this piece did so it is a bit of a nitpick, but I feel like I’ve never had any issue with recycled cardboard packaging.
      But this review was overall so glowing that I felt like I needed to have SOMETHING to add for constructive criticism lol

    You can also put some pins bottons or temporary buttons to make it more fun for a look, a bigger necklace can add a lot tô the look too. I love this new kind of unboxing, great Idea! Thanks for the great video :D

    I love this style of review. I love seeing how a piece is constructed and how it moves/fits on a person. Having said that, I think it looks pretty cheaply made [definitely not worth the price, good thing you got it on sale imo!] and won't be buying any myself, but I do really love this review and I hope you continue to do it in the future!

    also i really like how you reviewed the construction, that is something I like to look at, but doesn't really get its due attention (imo) considering how important it is. like you could have high quality fabric but poor construction makes it a low(er) quality garment (from my understandin)

    Were they tight getting on? My Lucy and yaks are super well fitting once they’re on, not tight at all, but for some reason it’s basically hell to get them on and off. Am I missing a trick or a secret zipper or something?

    This might be a silly question but I’ve never ordered something from the UK, so please bare with me 🙏🏻 do you have to pay customs fees (in addition to shipping cost)? I am just a bit confused lol

    • @RavenMoonChild00
      @RavenMoonChild00 2 роки тому +2

      No,unless you buy items valued above 800usd. I buy frequently from the uk and I get anxious about taxes and duties but according to customs information we only pay for items above 800 usd. It used to be 200 usd but the Obama administration had it changed

    I've been looking at these in burgundy for so long but I never realised how low the sides are, I'm kinda worried that people would be able to see down to my underwear? Unless I got a pair of thin stretchy shorts, like biker shorts..

    • @mindeebee
      @mindeebee 4 роки тому

      I think the burgundy ones are the Umi style, and the sides aren't cut so low on those. The pink ones are the Luna style, and they are cut quite low. The other styles are fine though, and the corduroy originals are my very favorite!

      I've bought some yaks during the start, and middle of the pandemic...also just bought a pair in xmas and they came with the sari and in brown paper. Only once they came in just the plastic but the sari was still with them. The paper bag had gotten damaged and so they were repackaged with the original packaging but separated
