Thank you for another great review. I took delivery in May on a Prestige Q7 and absolutely love it. It reminds me of my original 2003 Touareg updated for 2022. We drove 1600 miles from Pennsylvania to Florida and back with 2 teens and a dog. Everyone was comfortable. The cargo space isn’t as good as the Atlas I traded in, but I’m so happy I walked away from the Atlas. The air suspension is definitely worth the upgrade. Exactly, I was going for the Q8, but liked a lot the hefty larger presence of the Q7. I do not care for 3rd row, will never use it. But why? because.... Had a buddy who had a Corvette and asked him how does it ride at 120mph? is it stable launching it 0-60? he answered acqtually I do not know, have never done either. Great review. I know why you guys value the Audi brand so much. It is very refined product not flashy but more of good at everything which most people need. This is our 4th Audi product we upgraded from q5 to 2022 Q7, if you are in market for 7 passenger you will be surprised the value Q7 brings even compared to non luxury brand. Seems like 2023 brings more standard feature will be a steal if price stays same. We opted for 4 turbo. It not fast like 6 cylinder but it is adequate for large suv. We never had any issue. The interior quality is superb, over all it will not disappoint anyone. The key is to test drive it to find out, many people don’t. 3rd row seat for kids not adult.
I live in the U.S. (not far from Canada) and always appreciate these insightful reviews. Motormouth is such a practical place to come for advice when looking for a new car.
Small note/correction: For 2020, the Q7 got an all new powertrain, with a 3.0 turbocharged engine and mild hybrid system. From what I've heard, it seems to be a pretty good powertrain. The 2017-2019 have a 3.0 Supercharged engine. That's the engine that's been around for a long time, and in terms of reliability, is one of Audi's best. The pre-refresh models also seem to get slightly better fuel economy depite the newer ones mild hybrid system. Whether this is due to an increase in weight or the new engine, I don't know. Also, one of the big appeals to the Q7 vs the MDX is the optional air suspension that allows it to tow 7700lbs. This was the reason that, when replacing our 2007 Acura MDX, we went for a 2017 Q7 Technik. At 120,000km, so far no unexpected repairs. Tows our 7600lb (when loaded) camper trailer through 35-40 degree weather without overheating and a confidence that is lacked by many 1/2 ton pickup trucks (likely thanks to the air suspension keeping the vehicle perfectly level). Just expect to burn 2-3L of oil between oil changes, as this is normal for the 3.0 Supercharged engine.
Thanks for posting that correction about the engine. I have the 2019 super charged engine. I have heard the complaints from newer model owners that the MPG is worse by 2-3 mpg with the turbocharged versions.
Andrea and Zack. I'm so glad to hear you address the "comparable" question. I agree, the audi and the atlas are not comparable. That isn't to downgrade either vehicle but to me it really is like comparing cotton and polyester. Yes, shirts are made from both materials, but one just breathes better than the other.
It is a huge downgrade to a broke ass Volkswagen atlas. A 150k luxury Audi q7 is a competitor to gls and x7. Some brokie Volkswagen is not a competitor. It is just a brokie family suv while the q7 is a rich luxury suv for rich ceos. Get that right
Hi, nice job on all your reviews. I have a 2018 Q7 with the 3 liter engine. We routinely get 27 and up to 28 mpg on the highway with premium fuel. Nice quiet car. I have 80,000 miles on it. My only complaint is the price of service at the dealership and it is hard to find other mechanics who really know how to work on these. There seem to be more shops servicing BMW and Mercedes. I compensate some what for the service costs by waiting for them to send me discount coupons so if you own an Audi make sure the dealership has your text and email info.
Q7 is definitely the gold standard in this segment, can't wait to see what Audi has in store for the upcoming Q9 which is actually a Q7 LWB, on improved next generation architecture.

Always loved the Q7. Even the 2015 my mom used to have. Why is nobody in the automotive media in Canada talking about the new luxury tax that is starting soon? I think it should be talked about because it’s a huge deal
Thanks for another great review! I really appreciate your opinions, answers to questions, and overall impressions and analysis. It's always an educational experience!
If you are primarily thinking about space and budget, Atlas is the choice - especially if you don't mind the spongy-bouncy ride. If you are looking for luxury, comfort AND passing power, Q7 - I've test driven both and ended up w/my 2017 Q7 3.0 T Exclusive edition - expensive but man oh man... effortless torque and power that it just wants to keep going faster and faster. Only difference with 2017 to 2018 and present that is important to help you make up your mind are the supercharger from 2017 and older are more reliable than the turbocharger (more oil burning, heat soak and turbochargers of course emits MORE heat equals more problems than suerpcharging).Audi only switch to turbocharging their V6 & V8 to benefit the 'mild hybrid' regarding charging the batteries. Once you are out of warranty tune it and you'll easily go over 400HP. The key to keeping it long term and saving money, do your DIYs (I saved THOUSANDS by doing the preventative maintenance ex: did my own 90K kms which cost me no more than $700CAD ordered from ECSTuning and did it myself vs Audi dealer cost of $3KCAD before pandemic, Audi states oil change every 15k KMs... do it every 7k-10k kms and she'll always run like new, Audi states differentials and transmissions are sealed systems and "lifetime" (complete BS), do it every 90k KMS - 110K KMS - don't wait till something goes wrong. If your considering a used Q7, avoid that first gen because that was a tire shredder. BMW... too much plastic engine bay parts, higher failure rates and leaks.MB rides like the Atlas but with much better amenities. Volvo have more electric complexities. Infiniti have very little new innovation since their financially going downhill.
I’ve been a big fan of the Q7 from the beginning. They always appeared quiet and refined, style-wise. And there only a handful of brands can match their interior fit and finish. The VW Atlas question was an interesting one. I’ve been asked that myself. My answer was… No. Period. The Audi is more akin to the Volkswagen ‘Touareg’ than a loaded VW Atlas. If you’ve had the privilege of experiencing it’s Germanic feeling of substance (weight?) than you might appreciate the difference. The VW Atlas is mass produced for Americans. It does a great job at that and looks great doing it. But it just isn’t in the same vehicle league. Thanks for the video.
Most top quality Volkswagens had, for lack of a better word(s)… absolutely ridiculously impossible to spell names! Its not just that Touareg… the Phaeton? Arteon? Phideon? Tacqua? Amarok? Saveiro? Difficult for no reason… is pretentious. Afterall, Volkswagen is not Alfa Romeo. They keep the simple names like Golf, Rabbit, ID 4, ID5, ID6, ID Buzz , California and Jetta for the American/Canadian market. I think those Germans think we’re less edumacted than we is.
I owned the first model year Touareg for almost 10 years and loved it (except for my average 14 mpg). When the electrical system started malfunctioning I moved onto the debut of the Infiniti JX35 now QX60. I liked the new tech (360 camera) but it lacked the solid feel of the Touareg. In 2019 it was time for an update and I thought I’d be happy enough going back to VW for the Atlas. I purchased a fully loaded SEL premium. It was so plastic-y. It was fine but I never “loved” it. With the crazy used car market I decided to get what I really wanted. I was able to trade my almost 3 year old Atlas in for 90% of what I paid for it. I love my Q7 Prestige- it really does remind me of my original much loved 2003 VW Touareg (at over twice the price of what I paid 19 years ago…). There is no comparison between the Atlas and Q7. I’ve owned both and at almost twice the price I feel the Q7 was worth the upgrade. Size wise is the only place the Atlas excels. I’m hoping the Q9 launches before I’m looking for my next vehicle.
Very solid points. Your experiences confirm my thoughts. The Touareg wasn’t cheap and it wasn’t exactly fuel efficient, but they always left an impression of solidity… almost tank like (as well as their Phaeton). Im glad you were fortunate to own one (even despite the higher end of life maintenance issues (electrical)). Cheers!
I know this is not the right way to ask u here bt i am confused so plz advise me Mercedes gle350 vs bmwx5 vs audi q7 which one is better n reliable for atleast 5 years to drive? thanks
Another great review...but what I find really interesting is how they will be candid re other models when asked for comparisons....the Volvo just slipped of my short list!
Is it comfortable? Quiet? How is ride quality? I kept fast forwarding trying to hear something other than reciting the specs and what you think is "handsome."
So in essence, it's a slightly detuned, SQ5.. But with more room.. Way to go Audi. Zack and Andrea, you guys are pump them out aren't ya?!?!?! Good for you!!!
@@Stephanie-vv2fi Of course they handle differently, due to the added weight, longer wheelbase. Again, because of the detuned engine(Nature), I am sure the suspension characteristics are not as sporty as the SQ5 as well..
Was searching, searching and searching for a reliable lux suv. I wonder which one from bmw X7, merc GLS or Q7 has the most reliable petrol engine? At the same time with least service and spare parts cost?
Acura reliability hasn’t been that great over the past few years particularly the MDX. The new model is too new to tell, but the previous model got poor scores even in the last year of production when you would expect the kinks to be worked out. Honda has also been struggling. German cars are usually less reliable than the Japanese brands, but not by much anymore.
reliability? lol think again. check the forums. they got issues with A/C , tie rods and now I just heard the phone charger does not work with iPhone 14 lol.
I love Motormouth reviews! Regarding the high gloss black trim - too bad they don't offer an option to replace it with faux wood or brushed aluminum or any surface that is non-glare and is NOT a fingerprint and dust magnet. Showroom new it looks great but it isn't very friendly for every day driving.
This engine has actually not been around for a long time. It launched around 2019 in the A6, and 2020 for the Q7. Prior to that the v6 was supercharged.
Very nice vehicle. One thing I cannot stand is piano black it shows smudges, it is reflective and it scratches easily. Also I do not like leather and that's all Audi has.
Looks absolutely awesome in gray, with dark interior but it’s pricey for my liking. Guess I’ll just keep driving my 2013 TDI for now. By the way, my teenage daughter always fights to have the third row when we go far, it’s like a little, private cave for her. And I am sorry, but ATLAS is just hideous looking and completely devoid of character and charm.
I picked up a Q7 after Audi canceled my factory order for Q7 Technik without any notification. I had to go through the hassle of transferring my purchase from the original dealer to a new dealer who had a similar but not exactly the same specs. I purchased the vehicle in March but received only one fob - Audi was to ship/program the second fob within a month but it’s been 4 months I lose the fob and I’m locked out of a 100k vehicle Please help if you can
JD power is such an acurate source to determine reliability even tho they scored acura below FCA, jaguar and all the german stuff, and honda is only 3 higher? The scores arent even based on engines and trannies blowing up, its based on people going back to the dealer complaining about minor things like the infotainment is laggy.
How about comparing to Land Rover Discovery! I think they are both pretty much mid-size luxury 3-row SUVs! So not quiet like CLS and X7 as they are full-size 3-row luxury SUVs IMO! :)
I had 2019 Q7 and last January I traded it in for 2023 Atlas R… and I’m picking up 2023 Q7 tomorrow! I traded in the atlas… Atlas can not come close to Q7
Disappointing that the new models doesn't come with Matrix LED. I think that's one of the best feature on the new models, and without it. It's just a plain premiums model.
Unless something is wrong with your sound,I can hear the engine is a bit whiny,I take this is a midsize suv,it looks a little bit like the Chrysler Journey, same size engine, different price.
I have this car and love it especially the comfort and driving reliability for long hauls in the Southwest US. But as we have long stretches of desolate country with horrific temperatures, I hate the fact that this car has NO SPARE TIRE! I’ve gotten stuck in the middle of nowhere at sundown on July 3rd with a flat. If it weren’t for luck and a state trooper that knew how to patch a tire, who knows what would’ve happened. AUDI! Wake up! @audiusa
so you say early on in the review that this is competing against the mdx, but then at the end you dont pick it in the compare segment? what kind of logic is that?
@@andreaspencer9813 Thank you very much for clarifying. Pretty abysmal numbers for the hybrid system which makes me wonder why VW does not use something more in line with what Toyota uses. I certainly would not spend the difference and will likely get a 2023 Lexus RX assuming it receives a positive review from you and Otto. Fantastic work and really enjoy your reviews.
@@donzimmerman5829 You are not alone in thinking is, when people hear hybrid system, they assume it's a hybrid, but these mild hybrid systems don't make much of a difference in fuel economy. We'll be driving the new RX at the end of August in California, can't wait.
@@andreaspencer9813 That is outstanding timing as our closest Lexus dealer (300 mi) says that is when the order book should be open. I am really looking forward to your review. Thank you both very much.
I put it in S @andreaspencer 😄 since this Q7 is essentially a midsize 3 row that compares to the likes of X5, GLE, MDX, Q60; is there a true 3 row full size Q9 in the pipeline from Audi??
The hell the bigger engine Q7 is a value in any way... Not true!... 18 City and 23 highway (???), and premium fuel is a NON-STARTER compared to other decent non luxury offerings, with other luxury brands that already have 50% or more fuel economy, even with the bass Q7 engine (with still horrible gas mileage) and those other manufacturers only needed to leap a year or so later in technology, to lately bring MUCH more updated and value-minded hybrids and phevs! The Q7, to me, is still not even close to the value of the more updated powertrains that have already only come out in the last year or two! Audi better do something soon, cuz their midsize segment is kind of looking dismal to me... And the current electric market, with its heavy dose of Earth-killing needs, might prove that car companies have to improve soon, or else, when considering the current market with 5,000 lb vehicles that took five times more resources from our planet to promulgate... ?! Audi needs to let-go the hell from Volkswagen... Sheeeze!
I think they underestimate mpg after dieselgate. I get 30 mpg on my commute using adaptive cruise control. My combined mpg over almost 4,000 miles has been 25 mpg. I get better mpg with my Q7 than I did with the Atlas which offsets the premium fuel. I didn’t buy it hoping for improved gas mileage but it definitely gets better mileage than is reported. It could always be better but I’m happy with the better than predicted gas mileage. (My standards are probably low since I owned a Touareg that consistently got 15 mpg…)
@@simonliu1728 I exactly thought that but just that I believe there is a bit more space in the Audi Q7. Wonder if motor mouth can say whether the Audi drives smoother over rough pavement or the BMW handles it better with more cushion.
@@nayanshankar755 BMW X5 drives more like a luxury sport car, while the Audi Q7 drives like a premium luxury sport car. BMW makes more horsepower and the acceleration is much faster.
Let's be serious, and get past this giddy review that is very misleading. We have driven Audi A8's for 25-years and at one time Audi was a class leader, but the shine is gone for traditional Audi buyers. The styling is getting very dated, the technology has descended into catchup vs. class leading, and it became obvious 10-years ago that Audi had transferred their technology team too focus on the EV world. Audi does not sell the number one luxury sedan anymore, as several luxury brands have stolen their thunder.
Lol to the guy saying the atlas was the same vehicle…. The Q7 rides on the same platform as: 1. Porsche Cayenne 2. Bentley Bentayga 3. Lamborghini Urus Your atlas rides on the same platform as: 1. Audi Q3 2. VW golf I won’t bother to explain the massive difference in both if you can’t figure it out after that, but your comment is absolutely laughable

Volvo is also about to slip off of my shortlist as well. What was the last straw?
I love my Q7. Has been driving it for one year and seven months. I like driving with my kids, but my Q5 is better when im going to the office.
Is it comfortable? Quiet? How is ride quality? I kept fast forwarding trying to hear something other than reciting the specs and what you think is "handsome."
Sorry but I feel like I must’ve missed the actual car review. How is the ride quality? Is it quiet? Comfortable?
So in essence, it's a slightly detuned, SQ5.. But with more room.. Way to go Audi. Zack and Andrea, you guys are pump them out aren't ya?!?!?! Good for you!!!
We've got a special Toyota reveal coming your way tonight too 10pm PST/1am EST. Don’t miss it!
@@andreaspencer9813 Reliability, tonight at 10p.. 10-4!!!! Thanks for the heads up!!
@@Kiss__Kiss 👌
We own an 2022 SQ5 Sportback as well as a 2022 Q7. They handle differently. They both drive well but the SQ5 definitely feels more aggressive.
@@Stephanie-vv2fi Of course they handle differently, due to the added weight, longer wheelbase. Again, because of the detuned engine(Nature), I am sure the suspension characteristics are not as sporty as the SQ5 as well..
Zack liked the surge from the engine tonight Andrea. Smooth car from audi as you'd expect.
He sure did!
Was searching, searching and searching for a reliable lux suv. I wonder which one from bmw X7, merc GLS or Q7 has the most reliable petrol engine? At the same time with least service and spare parts cost?
MDX type S with its 3L V6T is a direct competitor with better reliability
No way Acura. German car tree times match better belive me
Acura reliability hasn’t been that great over the past few years particularly the MDX.
Audi is reliable? Why everyone talking abt how bad it is. It’s fine for being a luxury car. And mdx interior is ugly.
Zack and Andrea, I am struggling between Q7 and MDX. In terms of built quality and driving pleasure, which one you recommend more?
Only problem with Audi and other German brands doesn't age well. Kudos for fancy tech. It is good.
I love my 2017 Q7 need to get a 2022 soon.
Great Review. What is your opinion about some is going to buy Q7 now ,Buy 2022 Q7 or wait till 2023 to come
Lovely, well-made review!
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
Love this channel
Handsome vehicle but too pricey for me. Great video Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you, you are right, very handsome.
@@andreaspencer9813 👍🏻👍🏻
How many key fobs come with the car, are they still only delivering cars with only 1 fob?
Great family SUV
And how would you compare to the Acura MDX Type S?
Someone respond to this please.
This engine has actually not been around for a long time. It launched around 2019 in the A6, and 2020 for the Q7. Prior to that the v6 was supercharged.
Well, the ENGINE has been around a long time and used in various models, but you are also correct because the turbo version is new
@@ehbenson2948 What you're saying doesn't make sense. The Turbo-6 is not related to the previous SC-6
Thanks for a great review. You have such good chemistry i can see you review ing hotels in your home town and beyond since your so mobile 😉
Great content!
So nice all AUDI CARS.
To consider also is the LR Discovery
I was really waiting for this review. Well, here it is.
Can the Q7 (or any of its competitors) accept a 4x8 sheet of plywood if I don’t bring pax along?
I purchased the vehicle in March but received only one fob - Audi was to ship/program the second fob within a month but it’s been 4 months
I lose the fob and I’m locked out of a 100k vehicle
Please help if you can
Does it still have a 2-3 second throttle lag ?
YES! I have the 2022 V6 and it DEFINITELY has turbo lag, so frustrated. I heard the V8 doesn’t have that issue though
Boooo, to the wired Android auto. That's a no for me. Good video
Do you wear tights in the summer
Love You Guys ❤️
JD power is such an acurate source to determine reliability even tho they scored acura below FCA, jaguar and all the german stuff, and honda is only 3 higher? The scores arent even based on engines and trannies blowing up, its based on people going back to the dealer complaining about minor things like the infotainment is laggy.
A nice SUV but quality wise is behind Lexus GX and LX models
Audi Q7 Prestige or MDX Type S advance?
Can someone answer my question?
Look to get a Q7 or Aviator but they see so quick. Might have to just get a MDX
MDX is still the smarter and cheaper choice
Unless something is wrong with your sound,I can hear the engine is a bit whiny,I take this is a midsize suv,it looks a little bit like the Chrysler Journey, same size engine, different price.
Ah front seats that blow you... don't know why Zack doesn't like that.. LOL. Ok was that comment offside? 🤣😇
AUDI! Wake up! @audiusa
My 2022 base Audi Q7 has wireless Android Auto
when can we expect the new 2023 Audi a3 video ?
In about a month
Fact check: JD Power ranking of XC90 2022 is #6 and Q7 is #7. 2023 rating are awaited.
Why put the Volvo up for consideration in the top 4 cars if it's at the bottom of the pack in JD Powers, and other car ratings Publications.
so you say early on in the review that this is competing against the mdx, but then at the end you dont pick it in the compare segment? what kind of logic is that?
I have a question; why no milage numbers on the hybrid.
It's just a mild hybrid system, those fuel economy numbers are for that powertrain.
@@donzimmerman5829 Thank you, glad you are enjoying our reviews too!
Maybe just me, but I came away from this thinking, if I get a Lux 7 seater, I’m getting the xc90.
The xc90 is about to slip off of my shortlist. Would you choose the xc90 over gv80, q7 and mdx?
🥱💩
Those two screens replacing buttons is blasphemy
Are people willing to pay $75k for a damn Jeep SUV? Holy crap.
Andrea you really look so beautiful
Thank you so much! - Andrea
Imagine making this video and fumbling the wireless carplay
👍👍👍
Your video speaks to Audi’s reliability however I argue that after 4 years reliability will be a concern.
I drove the Q7, it feels like a boat, a very slow boat.
The Q7 45 is the 4 in line, the 55 is V6 turbo.
Wireless Apple Car Play but wired Android Auto? …..Wtf?
cute red dress she has
As cheesy as a cheese burger in Cheeseville
Q5 or Q8 is the best. Q7's third row seat is a joke.
If you must have it, lease it. It will be rubbish in a few short years. Nothing will drive you more crazy than dealing with Audi when things go wrong.
You have no idea what you’re talking about
Another useless prediction based on zero evidence
Audi Q7 design is ruined. The 2015 grill was epic, classic. What they have now looks ugly.
This or X5 ?
X5. BMW has more sporty look and modern look to it.
@@simonliu1728 I exactly thought that but just that I believe there is a bit more space in the Audi Q7. Wonder if motor mouth can say whether the Audi drives smoother over rough pavement or the BMW handles it better with more cushion.
The x5 is very nice but lacks second row leg room.
@@nayanshankar755 BMW X5 drives more like a luxury sport car, while the Audi Q7 drives like a premium luxury sport car. BMW makes more horsepower and the acceleration is much faster.
@@simonliu1728 I will consider it thanks !!
Sorry - other than the q8 the q series is a boxy ugly SUV that in the looks dept that can’t compete with Mercedes, BMW or Porsche
The old Q7 was the boss. This one looks ugly
Lol to the guy saying the atlas was the same vehicle…. The Q7 rides on the same platform as:
1. Porsche Cayenne
2. Bentley Bentayga
3. Lamborghini Urus
Your atlas rides on the same platform as:
1. Audi Q3
2. VW golf
I won’t bother to explain the massive difference in both if you can’t figure it out after that, but your comment is absolutely laughable
