You guys have helped me alot. Just started at 65 and playing along with you on this exercise has really got me in tune with my instrument. I know this was two years ago but glad I found it. Thanks.
no real professional does this for so long. Stick to basics: Breathing, Buzzing and lip bends, a bit of long tones, a lot of lip slurs, scales and arpeggios in 3 octaves and playing beautiful melodies. 1 hour of practice and your lips will feel great. But challenge yourself ;)
Not true. "Real professional" come on. There absolutely are smokin' players that do this kind of stuff. Everyone's different. Everyone has their own approach to the same goal: the promised land.
jantubaman... I 9:24 AM SO GLAD THAT YOU POSTED... BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY YOU ARE THE KNOW ALL BE ALL END-ALL OF TRUMPET PLAYING !!! BILL CHASE... DOC SEVERINSEN... MAYNARD FERGUSON... JAMES MORRISON... AND ALMOST MANY MANY OTHER WORLD-CLASS TRUMPET PLAYER PRACTICES LONG TONES ON A DAILY BASIS. DID YOU EVER HEAR OF CAT ANDERSON AND THE..."20 MINUTE G"... ALTHOUGH THAT IS AN EXTREME EXAMPLE OF LONG TONE PRACTICE THAT IS VERY BENEFICIAL BTW !!! BUT THAT'S ALL RIGHT I'M SURE YOU KNOW MORE ABOUT THE TRUMPET THAN THEY DO !!!

Combine long tones with varying dynamics to gain control. Maybe five to seven minutes should be enough.
@@lwskiner I never practice long tones. But i hold the last note of an exercise as long as possible. Seems to be very good ;)
