- On the DigiDestined Chosen Children’s new journey, they’ve each formed new unique relationships with Digimon that they weren’t associated with in the original series.
Thinking about the Digimon Games like Cyber Sleuth, where the player has multiple Digimon, this “What If” video assigns each protagonist with a secondary Digimon partner. What do you think about the picks?
Note: I say Junkmon when I mean to say Gerbemon / Garbagemon! This is an error I did not notice until very far into the video edit. Garbage and Junk are basically the same word, so I hope you understand my error!

now seriusly in the first manga there were a tamer with 2 digimon a wargreymon and metal greymon they even make jogres to evolve into omegamon, even manga's taichi has a gabumon as the secundary partner

Everyone rolls up with a second Digimon they befriended to the final battle, but Joe and Mimi show up with the hot spring army and all of Mimicorp.

@@AyumuTheTamer Agreed. I like the reboot version of the characters. TK isn’t the whiney cry baby. Mimi isn’t the ditzy, lazy, self centred person like she is in the Og. Joe is kinda still the hypochondriac book worm but not as bad. Matt isn’t the sullen, moody pre-teen/ teenager. Tai isn’t the cocky arrogant wannabe who forces himself to be the leader. Izzy is more or less still the same and so is Sora. I’ve enjoyed this reboot so much I’ve loved the twists and the extra evolutions. But the OG will always be my favourite.

I like the kids forging relationships with Digimon they don't have a destined partnership with. Always great to see friendly Digimon make reoccurring appearances and have meaningful connections with the main cast.
Maybe in a sequel series these Digimon could appear more frequently and maybe even aid in evolution like when Patamon helped Palmon become Ponchomon, or straight-up Jogress.
Not gonna lie, this idea is rather interesting. And definitely, Yamato and Strabimon as his second partner works so well.
Yeah, especially as Strabimon digivolves into the Warrior of Light who was Kouji's spirit.

It's funny the strabimon and yamato pairing, since that one is lobomon's child level, just like flamon is Agnimon's. Basicallty Koji's partner if frontier was planned a bit different, the other lone wolf in frontier.
Fun fact, Koji's japanese voice actor reprised the role of Strabimon in this season

I would say its not a bad idea but the idea would really work in a series where you have a much smaller cast of humans, example, I point to Xros Wars/fusion battles where three of the main humans had mutable Digimon as their team, the idea can work but just not in this series because you have to develop the humans and the Digimon bond, plus the bond between the Digimon themselves, you could have two rival Digimon who been bitter rivals yet they both work with the same human
I think my favourite aspect to this idea is that these would have been the partners that the kids would have bonded with naturally instead of it having been decided by fate. Almost like how all the kids in tamers got their partners.
I think this would be a great idea if there weren't so many human main characters, mostly because doubling the number of partner digimon would add an additional character for each main character, and in a show that already has 8 main characters and 8 partner digimon who all need to have enough screen time to feel important that would become a bit of a logistical nightmare for the writers.
I'd say if they were to do this for a show, it'd make more sense for one with 3-4 main characters, not 8. That way the show can spend more time developing all of the characters without making it seem like any of them are being favored too much more than the others.
Agree! 8 characters is a huge writing challenge and on top of that they each have Digimon partners…I don’t know how you would ACTUALLY give each kid 6 digimon. Maybe in a show where it’s a cast of three digidestined tops
I never noticed that, thanks for point it out, really similar to Pokemon's scenario, mostly because the head writer Atsuhiro Tomioka wrote tons of Pokemon episode since 1997's first series.

I personally would love to see a second season where the digimon partners gets kidnapped by an unknown villain and turns them into evil digimon , giving our cast new digimon to have them digivolve and grow a bond with, the grand battle could be having each tamer digivolve both digimon to mega's and fight the villain
I rather like this idea. It would be interesting to see an episode(s) where the main partner digimon all get captured and these secondary partners comes in to help them free the primary partners. I also like the idea of the primary and secondary Pokemon fusing. The one digimon who deserves a partner is ogremon and his evolved form.
I feel like Tai would have ended up with Orgemon as his secondary partner.
That would have been Awesome. Ogremon Can Evolve into Asuramon. Taichi with Asuramon Man I would have loved to see That.
Actually for a second partner for Tai I would also nominate Ogremon for that position too given he did survive his battle with MetalTyrannomon and has now evolved into Rebellomon. Also given his rivalry to Greymon, Ogremon would be a good fit for Tai.
Ugg, tanks UA-cam algorithm. I watch one Digimon video out of nostalgia and I've fallen down this rabbit hole discovering this reboot show and feel ashamed that I really want to watch the whole thing as a 37 year old middle class father.

It’s a good idea and not unheard of fusion being a strong contender in that hypothetical although for partners I think their all perfect especially Izzy and Garbagemon mimi and Golemon I completely forgot about since you could argue Mimi and Babamon would be a decent team
i'd love to see babamon come back, evolve into lotusmon, end jogress/dna-digivolve/fusion with rosemon into rafflesiamon to fight of a really big badguy
i recently read somewhere that rafflesiamon was originally planned to be like a female omnimon but they decided to go with the more rosemon/lotusmon style design instead
@@Kevinblue035 Nah rafflesimon isn't the one it's a different one that they made that's a literal flower knight Bloom Lordmon. Rafflesimon is mainly because plant digimons didn't have any big megas outside of ceresmon rosemon and lotusmon so they gave it a super ultimate jogress. The big lack of plant digimon they finally noticed is probably why the recent vital bracelet had so many new plant digimon including Bloom Lordmon and another mega called Hydramon and two other ultimate level digimons.
For Takeru, you could also argue Devimon to a degree depending how classify him
That’s true! I might make longer videos where it is a bigger look at the individual kids’ hypothetical “teams” - so like tk with Patamon, Devimon, Eldoradimon, maybe a Digimon he meets in the next few episodes etc

@@thedigiknow ogremon or rebellimon since he evolved already, would make an amazing second partner for taichi in my opinion. Maybe better than lopmon.
Taichi and greymon do seem to have more of a bond with ogremon than with lopmon considering lopmon seems dedicated to helping all of the chosen children and doesn't seem to have a favorite.
The only real meaningful interactions between just taichi and lopmon was in the episode mentioned in the video when taichi saved lopmon and the rest of their big scenes together weren't just taichi scenes.
Ogremon has multiple episodes to build up a friendship with and a sense of respect and comraderie with taichi and greymon through their past fight and the later rebellimon episode.
I like the idea of Takeru having devimon as a secondary digimon, or demidevimon, it would make for a nice redemption ark for devimon and as for the problem of dandevimon not actually being in control, they could introduce jogress evolution and make angemon and devimon a new mega
See my dream plot for Season 2 is that instead of Ken, Takeru is the Digimon emperor and is influenced by Devimon who uses Takeru’s inner anger and hatred(cause of family and potentially something happening to Yamato or Patamon) digivoled all the way to Deamon who was supposed to be the orignal mastermind of 02 instead bringing back Vamdemon/Miyotismon.

To me I'd say Taichi would have Ogremon as a secondary Digimon. Started as enemies, then after battling became rivals. Ogremon sacrificed himself and eventually came back as Rebellimon. They still retained that bond when they had that short fight. If they did have a secondary, I could see Rebellimon returning and regaining his memories and joining him
Personally I'd go with Lopmon and/or Nohemon given the way that they worked together and Nohemon kind of replaced Agumon for that episode

If they can establish an actual bond with another digimon like that then I'm down for the kids, and even future digidestined/chosen children, having more than one partner. After all, there is no rule saying you can't bond with more and in the original adventure universe we saw that Wallace/Willis had two partner digimon.
This could be good for season 2 like a key to fusion or dna digivolving

As interesting as this idea is, I feel like it would dampen the relationships already built a bit and spread the attention around too many characters.

I’d say Taichi secondary is the Green Digimon(forgot his name). Even tho they are more like rival but they have this strong connection.

I thought the same thing. Years ago before I saw Digimon Tamers, I first saw a picture of Rika, Renamon, and Calumon together. So I just assumed that they were 'all' partners.
I've always thought that Calumon ended up more as Jeri's secondary partner frankly given all that he did for her
Golemon makes sense as just like with Lillymon it has a Bancho mega so it could be cool link between them.

The kids having more than one digimon partner would be an interesting concept if it did happen in the anime.
It happened in the movie with willis but i see what you mean. The closest i remember from the actual anime seasons was impmon having two tamers which was a interesting twist. Just like with human to human friendships, families and such theres a lot of different ways to form bonds with digimon it seems and isn't just limited to 1 human and 1 digimon.

@@Robertz702 hopefully if we get a 02 remake they will include willis with both of his partners. Maybe daisuke and takeru can find common ground in being jealous of his two partners and the fact that the girls all swoon for him.
Would be funny to see takeru be knocked down to daisuke's level a bit and see them bond over something that would normally just be daisuke fuming over takeru getting along too well with hikari in his eyes.
I think i like the idea of an unholy alliance of romantic rivals being made to combat a new threat to the hand of their precious hikari
Just imagining Mimi and Rosemon being in a bad spot against a Mega that's just a bad match. Golemon takes a hit to protect them both despite, ya know, IT BEING A MEGA! And resonating with the crest and the girls evolves right past Ultimate and straight into his mega, BanchouGolemon.

He does seem to fit Tai's general personality and aesthetic more.

I mean in the original anime, Willis (or Wallace in JP) had both Terriermon and Lopmon, so it's not unheard of for a Digidestined to have 2. I dunno if Willis was a special case since he was just a movie character, but still.
I think its not cannon except Willis is a Digidestined HOWEVER its not cannon since his Terrieromon cant Golden Armor digivolve nor confirmed to have 2 Digimon partners.

Back when I saw Digimon season 3 promos in 2001, for some reason I thought Terriermon was gonna be Takato's Partner, and he was the 3rd member, instead of the leader.

If the creators want to add the game concept of more than 1 partner it works. Gives the ok for jorgess evolution power house and of course it has been shown in the past that feral digimon exposed to the digivice can digivolve if they are not partnered to a digidestined. Let's not forget the beauty of the xros wars/digimon hunt. Capturing digimon and adding them to your team will help digidestined understand the tamer connection, helping the digital world
interesting idea! takeru and eldradimon along with hikari and petaldramon feels like a pairing. both are huge digimon with a connection to the ancient past. makes sense with their crest too imo
On Eldradomon and T.K., Eldoradomon kept trying to get back to its home continent and failing, but it kept trying, like it had hope, T.K's crest is hope, i think it fits

Man I’ve been watching your videos for a couple weeks now about the reboot of Digimon and I need to start watching it hahaha looks awesome!!!!! Even though it might be good it will never take the place of the original at least for me! Grew up watching it from the start when they first aired it in America…..I am a 90’s kid the first of all the good stuff will always be the best

I had no idea they were doing this reboot so thank you for sharing I absolutely adore digimon and my admiration for this show and it's animation far out weighs pokemon ( this opinion had been met with alot of dispute amongst friends growing up and even now with younger fans of pokemon) I am Interested in the idea of them having secondary partners only because it makes sense as far as updated story lines are concerned. It would open up for amazing new fusions and showing more character development than what we got in 98-99 don't get me wrong I loved it but in order to gain new fan base I feel its a necessity to keep new fan base attention. And from what I saw I just this post they are keeping close to the original based solely on the characters involved with mentioned secondary parties. ( I am however seeing new characters) I am straight up stoked that it was rebooted and not just left behind like so many other fantastic animes I grew up with it's still close enough to the original In design that they don't seem to have ruined the show. Not that anyone gives a fuck but digimon had a lasting effect to my interest in art because of how expansive it was in character design/evolutions it did effectively blow my 8/9 year old mind into a creative frenzy it's mixed media animation the combination of watercolor and computer graphics was very well meshed and I will forever be thankful for growing up from the very beginning of the 90s and enjoying everything it had to offer I wouldn't give it up for anything.

This is a really interesting idea to think about and I agree with the choices posed here. I will forever be salty about the lack of Wizardmon, but that is what fan works are for and I do like that the series is not a carbon copy of the 1999 anime. Another I'd pose for Taichi though is Rebelmon (not good with remembering names of Digimon I don't see a lot, but the one that fought Boltmon). There seemed to be some connection there, but that could just be my imagination.
I think the idea of DigiDestined having secondary partners would be awesome to see in canon ^_^ I'm in a digimon RPG group that functions kinda like DnD where we all have made up characters. And this one characters has two digimon, but they aren't twins. She "obtained" the second digimon when thru the events of the RP she formed a bond with him and as a result his data became fused with her digivice. And I always thought that was the sickest idea LOL So anyway, I'd love to see this concept in an actual show :3

Even Agumon never digivolved to SkullGreymon in this series, but I speculate that it was secretly digivolved once in it's previous life, and one of it's bone club had taken by Ogremon once it died. The bone club had become the bond between Agumon and Ogremon in this life
And let's not forget about the secondary Digimons' evolutions and potential Jogress evolutions with both primary and secondary Digimons.
Hopefully, just like Palmon did in the 1990 series, Mimi’s other partner will say, “you’re acting like a spoiled little brat. “Palmon really did hit it on the head that time. Good for her, because I could not stand Mimi in the first part of that series back then.

It has marketing potential but the writing would need to be almost god-tier to not get hated by the fan base.....and I’m not sure the reboot could muster that level of writing.
