Yes! This a huge problem. I was just on a job and missed a key shot because the air unit overheated before I could start flying at the right time. Totally unacceptable. I'll be adding my own heatsinks or/and cooling fans. Very, very disappointed with this seemingly obvious design oversight, DJI.
Still makes me nervous when flying as you never know when it may engage this shutdown. I think they could do something like dropping the 4K to 1080P to reduce the CPU load. Maybe they will come up with a fix.
I had the old unit and never did fly it due to overheating shut downs and gave up on DJI. Certainly dont want to start over with 03 and goggles 3. Got to be away of getting gopro quality in the goggles 3 without that overheating problem. The g3 has hdmi so couldnt it be possible to transmit gopro signal to goggles bypassing 03 cam
Goggles 3 use the 04 system and it is now OK to use with 03 air unit. 03 Air unit needs to fly to stay cool or you need to buy a heatsink to mount it on and even then could be an issue.
@@3TheJesusCodeWebBooks Personally would not buy that product because DJI is generally bullet proof I have used their products for more than 4 years without any drama except this video issue but with the 03 if you just take of and fly it works flawlessly and they fix any thing you send to them the support is unrivalled whereas the other mob???
G'Day, noI have nothad theproblem again as I now do not let it stand turned on for any length of time and when on my desk I place a fan blowing on the 03 unit. I also do not fly slowly anymore and I have not fitted the side covers that come with the Chimera in addition I have my propellors turning in to the flight stack (opposite what Betaflight have as standard) and I think this flow of air helps, as the air is now being blown accross the stack and 03 unit, but that is not the reason I reverse props it is to stop rocks being flung against the camera which is more expensive to fix than an ESC or Flight controller if they happen to get hit hard by a rock. I also only take off and land on a mat so no rocks around.
I also did not mention that I have not used the side covers (because of the way the 03 has to fit with standard cable) so my Chimera Pro is fully open to air flow.
Hello, I'm from Israel and it's very hot here. There are problems with o3. It started streaming video and after a few minutes, it just off. The LED starts blinking madly from red to green. I didn't find a solution to this. Aluminum radiators don't help. I love this camera, but it's overheating more often lately, I can't fly with it.
Hi Yuri, I read the full manual from DJI and they generally say maximum air temperature of 40C and the maximum time on is only a few minutes at this temperature. They also say it is 40% or so smaller and 40% or so more powerfull, that is why it gets hot. They also recommend that the unit be fitted under the propellor air flow, which sometimes is difficult. I have investigated a very small 12 volt PC fan to build intot he area near the 03 and think this will work OK. One thing not to do is let it wait too long whilst getting a GPS fix if you are using a GPS. On teh bench during setup I use a fan to cool it as it will turn off. iFLIGHT make a heat sink in aluminium for the CHimera 7 PRO and I have tried to buy one from them, that would be a great addition to a build. For sure the old unit did not have this issue.
@@chriscflint Hello Christopher. Thanks for the answer. I don't use GPS, I just fly short distances for 200-300 meters, then I don't have to wait long for the GPS to start work. I will try ,maybe add a small fan on the top or bottom and also add a spoiler on the sides for wind when it flies - hits the o3 vtx module directly.
Hi Brandon, I have not worked on the Fix yet but will do so in a few weeks as this is a problem that I think even DJI cannot fix with the current housing. If your BNF's have covers on the sides I suggest you remove them.
@@chriscflint Thanks. I did go ahead and purchase the iFlight Heat Sink, and I found a video considering stripping down the DJI O3 unit naked, put conformal coating on it, and stacking with 3d printed TPU parts to keep it open. Hopefully that'll allow for more heat dissipation.
I also faced this problem with whoop where i have o3 naked. Anoyher 4 inch drone with normal o3 I didnt tested yet. When o3 naked was in CE mode it didnt heat fast, but after HAM file was used it started to become overheated in secconds. Now it is cold in place Im located, about 15 deg, and when I fly fast I have no problems even with HAM hack, but I cannot fly slow at all as it just switch off...
I hope someone makes up an aluminium set of covers so we can replace the plastic ones and get a decent heat sink, maybe a bit heavier but for sure would be better.
The iFlight solved it already in the next generation Chimera. "Specially Designed Heatsink for DJI O3 HD Air Unit. Improved cooling performance for the high power draw of the DJI O3 video transmitter. We’ve added a custom CNC heatsink for excellent heat dissipation without overheating, even on high power levels."
Thanks for that information. Is the heatsink available as a separate purchase? Additionally why was the AIR unit moved so far back that we "should" extend the MIPI cable. From what I have read the 03 air unit has the MIPI stuck down and most people (including mads) has ended up with a damaged 03 air unit when trying to fit the longer MIPI. Why not place it in front of the Stack just behind the camera?
@@chriscflint I second you i just got my CHimera 7 V2 HD PRO ... the NEWEST one... and I have just 2 FLights less than 5 minutes and the DJI O· air unit overheating warning poped up...... So I have experience, only 2 flights, and this problem appears. I will gladly share a video evidence of such ISSUE. I plan to fly it again this days to document it. Of course, if i wasnt playing arround I would have lost all my equipment.
Even with what SlavaSomov says that they have a speciall designed heatsinck, wich it is real.... I have the issue. I can follow any test and prove approch to exlude any variable: enviroment, flight time, various batteries.... but for less than 5 minutes flight, never full throtle, nor freestyling, less than 100 meters high, less than 200 meters away.... something must be going one. @@fcojavierlopeze Thanks for the reply. I live in a place where the air temperature goes from 15C (on a really cold winter day) to 36C in summer with an average of about 25C which of course is not the same as in USA and China etc. I think it is a real problem. DJI got the first AIR units perfect but these 03 units seem to have many issues. I am investigating the addition of a small fan as is on the goggles to see if that could be a possibility to keep it running cooler. In addition I will also try running the video at 1080P to see if it is the processing of the video to 4K that is the issue. I am sure we will hear a lot more from others.
