Kataraina Koroheke is a Tasmanian artist who specialises in painting detail-rich nature-inspired landscapes, despite being legally blind. Kate has a genetic eye disease called keratoconus, which renders her vision very blurry, but which she says will never stop her doing what she loves.

My best corrected vision, with glasses, is 20/200. So I too am Legally blind, since birth. I cannot paint for the life of me. But I do build things and ride a bike that I have tinkered with and improved over the years. We do what we can with what we got and make the best we can. Keep on painting for as long as you can. I am also legally blind… I have RP. Late Stage advanced. I have been doing art most of my life, but stopped in my late 30s because my vision got so bad I thought I couldn’t possibly do art anymore… Was going through a crisis in my mid 40s and decided to pick it up again to see what I could still do… Apparently I can do a lot more than I thought! it is definitely a challenge even on a good day, but I am now showing in galleries and look forward to painting because ironically, it’s the only time I feel I can see :-) keep doing as much as you can with what you got!❤️
