Hey my friend shouting out to you from my lockdown here in philadelphia enjoying my staycation, binge watching your content sure helps in these strange days, be safe bringing us this Great history.
When I see these old grave sites that have been left with no care or upkeep, I am like you in the respect that I want to clean up the site and reset the stones so the grass can again be mowed and the loved ones of long ago can have dignity in their final resting place. I have done a few of my own forgotten ancestors. But I want to do them all but I cannot . That really bothers me . Thank you for showing these old cemeteries and for you being so respectful to those whose families have dwindled to nonexistence and left these sites without upkeep. I do enjoy your travels to the cemeteries and back to places and days gone by !
thank you for showing and sharing that great story about Bob and Charlie Ford. That is what happens in an old cemetery Mother nature and the weather has her toll on things Have a Great Day
That is true but quite honestly I have seen older cemeteries that are bigger and in smaller towns and they are better kept than this. There is enough people there where they could make a difference. It really is the two worst cemeteries i have ever seen and i have been in a lot in my lifetime. Thank you for watching!
Notice anything wrong with Robert Ford's marker? It has his birthdate as December 8, 1841. He is the younger brother of Charles. His date is at least 20 years off. The general consensus is that he was born January 31, 1862. But some think it is December 8, 1861. And when you do additional research you can see other dates and years as well. But how could they get this wrong by 20 years? Especially in his home town. It's a strange mystery. If you have any information as to who placed this marker please post it below. Also when was Bob moved from Creede, Colorado and who moved him?
Also there is a tiny graveyard in the middle of a street in Richmond with a Spanish American war veteran buried there. I kind of know where it is. It’s hard to find. It’s in the middle of a neighborhood street. I will let you know.
I just now saw this video and was commenting on the same issue, before I saw your comment here and deleted mine, lol. I too don't understand why the gravestone say Bob's DOB was December 8, 1841. If he was born in 1841, Bob would have been 41 years old when he shot Jesse James in 1882, and we know that wasn't the case, either. The video description later confirms Bob was 18 in 1880, and that Charley was his older brother. So why the weird DOB on Bob's gravestone? Older brother Charley's gravestone DOB is correct, 1857.
I studied the James gang as well as William McCarthy , John Booth primarily during history classes and such. But as I brought up before, There was a time when I taken a break from the National team while on tour visiting with one young lady from St. Charles Missouri that taken me to some of the local old cemeteries. This cemetery reminds of some I went too. The history of these places really touched a persons heart. I would love to return after seeing your video. Oddly I own a RV now and have the ability and money to tour the country in sight seeing these cemeteries, I just won't go a lone is all. I would love to find someone prior the memorial day (maybe a few weeks before) to go honor all the veterans I can with flags and artificial flowers around the states. Thank you again for your tour, it really means a lot. Missouri mainly as a majority of remembered times came from this state.
I hope you can and will get out to honor some heros on Memorial Day. That would be awesome and I think most people have really forgotten what that holiday is all about. That RV sounds like the perfect set up for you. There are a lot of interesting cemeteries in Missouri and I'm hoping to cover more some time this year. This was a hotbed for old outlaws. Thank you so much for watching.
Sadly, the notoriety of the famous and infamous people buried in this cemetery draws a lot of visitors and the foot traffic kind of burns a hole in the place. Then some of these people are inconsiderate and drop trash on the ground and even chip off souveniers of the headstones etc. I took some people over to the Clyde and Buck Barrow graves in Dallas not long ago. I told them before we got there, "It will be easy to find, when we get there, there will be a PATH worn down straight to the Clyde and Buck Barrow graves, and another path going the opposite way for people that are lost looking for it. Sure enough that was the way it was. The Barrow headstones are pushed down in CONCRETE to keep people from stealing them. That Cemetery is kind of run down too. You know, families MOVE ON to other places, they become EXTINCT etc. so these cemeteries can just run out of people that have a close enough connection to keep it going. If there is no fund for "Perpetual Care" well, with no money, and no people they can really get beaten down. GOOD VIDEO THOUGH!!! I "LIKED IT". BB
I feel the same way as you do. That's not difficult to do. Really was the worst cemeteries I have ever seen right in the middle of a town. Thank you for watching!
@@TheRetirednavy92 I’ve always been to trusting, until 3 years ago when new neighbours moved in next door. Within 3 months of moving in, they had pulled down and had a fencer put in new panels of fencing without ever asking our permission (which you have to do here). They also dented 5 panels of colorbond fence starting from the front yard in numerous places (it is a mess). Never mentioned it to us or apologised, when asked nicely if he could fix it because he caused it and we only had it put in 2 years before, his response was: when I put in a new driveway. Very interesting video. Glad to see you putting out plenty of videos while this whole Corona virus thing is going on. I have been been staying indoors because I already have plenty of health problems. Take care Rhetty.
I enjoyed your videos especially this one as I visited this cemetery a few years back. I also visited Pioneer Cemetery in Richmond where the Three Witnesses to the Book of Mormon are buried along with Bloody Bill Anderson.Thank for sharing your talent and adventures with us.
Great place with so much history. Still trying to decide what the western music reminds me of. Maybe The Virginian tv show. Thanks again Rhetty you always deliver such great videos.
I agree. It is sad to see cemeteries like this. I have been digging thru some videos that I have already filmed. This time period has allowed me to do a little more editing. Thank you for watching!
That was very, very interesting! I had no idea Bob Ford was buried in Richmond, Mo. I'm in Kearney, Mo, just a few miles from the James Home. So, this was right in my neighborhood, so to speak. Indo enjoy your videos.
Thank you for the video. Good job. My grandfather is buried there as well. He's in the older "paupers" section over the hill where you noticed all of the trash and brush.

Very well done . Enjoy the history that you take the time to dig up on many of the graves. Still wish you do one on Billy Dickson and the adobe walls fight were he made the famous long shot of a mile. His grave along with others are at the battle site
I'm sorry I do not. .. On the head stone it reads... One of the last western train robbers and riders of Jessie James... But I truly don't remember the name.
Great as always another history lesson for me in lock down Africa. It is a shame that the cemetery isn't better looked after but as you say it only has a small town could be very costly. Keep safe Rhett.
Honestly, both of these cemeteries are the worst ones I have ever seen. And I have been in a ton of cemeteries in my lifetime. I do think there are enough people in town that the trash and the overgrowth situation could be fixed. I understand not being able to do the markers. Or at least some of them. That was pitiful though. Thank you for watching Yvonne and stat safe out there!
I don't know why the Bud Light Lime bottle made me laugh so hard, but it did. Kind of sad that there is so much trash in the area though. My grandmother always said we were related to the James brothers some how or another. Unfortunately she had passed by the time I did enough research to find Bob Outlaw in the family tree. He was from Missouri and I've sometimes wondered if he didn't change his name to avoid the association. Seems odd he would pick Outlaw, though.
One way to find out is to visit the Jesse James Homestead in MO. They have the full family tree listed on the wall and they try really hard to update it. The reason they do this is because so many say they are related and they wanted to show everyone that was. It is quite large so it is possible you could be. I would say you would see relatives on it if you were. Thank you for watching my friend.
I was listening to a podcast of an interview with a historian that had researched a great deal on the assassination of Jesse James. A couple of odd things he noted, Jesse James removed his gun belt before adjusting/dusting the picture, which seems odd. Also the historian noted that Jesse James would have seen Bob Ford draw his firearm in the glass on the picture. The historian said it was possible that Jesse allowed himself to be shot. I have wondered about this, a wanted man such Jesse would not let his guard down. He didn't have the luxury to let his guard down. The historian did note that he didn't leave his wife and children in a very good financial position which suggests he was assassinated. History does show that criminals such as the Ford Brothers have a difficult life after they commit these acts of betrayal.
Well it probably would have been common to remove the gun belt since he was in his home. Two, the reflection of the glass would not have been at the right angle. Also I have heard that the glass was placed there later to protect the picture. Almost all criminals leave their guard down at some point. We see this with Bob Ford and many others. Thank you for watching!
Did not read all the comments to see if any of us who live in the area may have mentioned. Just East of Excelsior Springs Missouri is a small town called Wood Heights. Heights obviously not spelled the same. Now I have to wonder if there is any correlation. Both Excelsior Springs and Wood Heights are close to Richmond. Excelsior Springs lays claim to its "healing" Springs.
I know you are not from the area but, just found it interesting. Thought I'd make the mention of the town/township, more like a blip in the road. I had not heard of the man Wood Hite, until this video. So much history to be found. So happy you are finding and sharing it.
I Googled it and yes, the town of Wood Heights is named after Wood Hite. Due to life - I've lived in both the Excelsior Springs and Richmond areas, as well as mainly the Kansas City Missouri area. Never knew or heard of Robert "Wood" Hite. You are golden. Keep on doing what you're doing and I'll keep on watching and learning.
I appreciate the kind comments and support. There is sure a lot of history in Missouri. I always feel like I can never cover it all. I'm hoping to go back there this year for some more.
Your video cleared up a lot of misinformation for me about the Ford brothers and the death oh Jesse James.Thank you as always a very interesting and informative video.
Ive always thought that would be an interesting You Tube project for an amature historian. Do gaveside biographies of the govenors of a particular state. Im originally from Missouri. So short graveside biographies of the Missouri govoners would be interesting.
I am not sure where you are from but I have in every state. I toured America right prior to and after being selected for one of Americans national teams. Oddly enough during my off times, often I visited small towns and cemeteries including cemeteries in Missouri where this is. It is actually very common to see cemeteries like this actually from these time frames. The newer cemeteries are much better kept overall like from the 1980s.
These two cemeteries are still very much active. I have to say I have been in many cemeteries from coast to coast and even around the world. I have to say thought that these were the worst I have ever seen. I could have shown so much more that I had seen and did not show. What's really sad is that this is right in the middle of town. Very shameful that the town allows this to happen. Doesn't take much to do a little. Thank you for watching.
@@RhettyforHistory .... I feel bad for a lot that I seen in new Orleans. I heard rumors in desperation that grave diggers hit some up after hurricane Katrina in Louisiana. I am not positive how bad but I seen it one or two news reports and heard from a few people. From the few photos, the cemeteries looked aweful. I do not know if they fixed them back up or not and I have not seen photos in a long time.
I don't think Jesse would turn his back to where he couldn't see Bob Ford (straighting a picture) I always had a hunch that Jesse laid very low and retired in southern Tennessee
@@RhettyforHistory seen a photo copy of Jesse and his brother frank and others posing I believe at a work place, Jesse was a way to intelligent and paranoid just like Butch and Sundance, Butch retired and lived a good healthy life in southern Utah

I try to be as respectful as I can. I'm only trying to tell the story and not slant towards one side or another. That can be a challenge at times depending on what they did. Thank you for watching Tammy!
It's sad to see such disrepair & the rubbish. To mark the graves of outlaws but disregard those that lived good lives & helped settle their town, shown no respect at all., Seems wrong & sad. As you said the town couldn't fix the broken ones because of the cost is understandable. But a bit of "Elbow Grease" would cost nothing but their time. I watched a video the other day off a young man in maybe 18 years plus got to forgotten &!overgrown cementries & gets his wiper snipper etc & clean them out. He did a marvelous job & brought them back to what they should be. When I get his name will post his name etc so you can see for yourself. The transformation was amazing. Cheers from Australia. 🇦🇺🐨🧡🙏🧡🙏🧡🙏🧡. Things are still not good here where I live re the pandemic. Numbers have increased & 3 deaths in the last 24hrs. Their ages ranged from 80 to 90 & lived in nursing homes. Tougher restrictions are happening, you must stay in your own postcode &!masks are compulsory from midnight Wednesday. Everyone 12 & overmust wear a mask or receive a $200 fine. Cheers for now 🇦🇺🐨🙏🧡🙏🧡🙏 Lynne
I do think more could be done in this cemetery and it wouldn't take too much time or money. It's sad that it's been let go like that. Things sound really bad there. Our city just implemented a fine of $7 for your first offense if you don't have a mask on. If it's any time after that it goes up to $100. Here you can still go places. It's certainly a topic of controversy and it looks like it will be challenged in court.
My great great grandfather Elisha Guest supposedly ran with Bob Ford. He ran away from Red River County Texas to save his family from constant harassment from carpetbaggers. My Great Great Grandmother Serilda Brown was from Pettit County Mo. No one knows what happened to them but they left behind 3 daughters.
I wonder what is the average number of times an outlaw claimed this will be my last job. How many times did they completely disappear from any and all records on their supposed last job by actually quitting / hiding or killed during the crime.
Hey, David Whitmere was written on the monument to the Mormons in the Mormon cemetery where Anderson was buried in the corner. The monument listed the names of the witnesses remember?
David whitmer may have seen the gold plates but had nothing to do with translations of them and after joseph Smith died he left the church saying is was false and because of that nener joined another church.
DNA proves everything now days and I can’t wait until the truth does come out . I know the truth so many of the tubers with good intentions are so wrong but at last truths are finally coming to light .
For the James Boys acolytes out there - if the Ford bros were cowards - and I'm not disputing this- what does killing a 12 yr old little girl during an ill fated train robbery make a person ? - This is what happened when the James ' tried to stop a train the first time - As far as this being the "last" heist - Jesse and his wife had become accustomed to spending easy $$ - This money would never be enough - Evidently the wife and Jesse's mother must not have gotten along because Mrs James' life took a downward spiral , dying with little money - Jesse's son became a lawyer , made money on staging his dad's exploits then took his own life - This story isn't told - it was a very unhappy ending

Thanks ks for the video another great story from our past ,
You're welcome and thank you so much for watching!
Wondering what year they moved bob from creed Colorado to this grave site
That I'm not entirely sure nor who paid for it.
Great information. ..as always. ..that is why I subscribe.
You're welcome and I appreciate you watching! I'm glad to have you as a subscriber!
Interesting and informative. Come to Colcord Oklahoma to see about Zeke Proctor and Ned Christie.
Love your videos!
They are definitely some that are on the list to cover! Thank you got reminding me about them!
Extremely cool, thank you for this content!
You're welcome and I appreciate you watching!
I always learn something from your vids !
Thank you Roger. I appreciate you watching!
that wooden marker marker wasn't there the last time I was there..
That I'm not sure on. I am not from the area so I'm not familiar with those. Sounds interesting though. Thank you for watching!
I know you are not from the area but, just found it interesting. Thought I'd make the mention of the town/township, more like a blip in the road. I had not heard of the man Wood Hite, until this video. So much history to be found. So happy you are finding and sharing it.
I would have to look at it again and it's possible I had a bad source.
You're welcome Sharon and thank you for watching!
Ive always thought that would be an interesting You Tube project for an amature historian. Do gaveside biographies of the govenors of a particular state. Im originally from Missouri. So short graveside biographies of the Missouri govoners would be interesting.
Hopefully someone in that state does those. There is a lot there and it's not exactly a popular subject matter but it is worth remembering.
Never seen a cemetery in such poor condition, it's shameful.
@@supportyourtroopsathletes6460 Actually, I'm in Missouri, Independence to be exact. The cemeteries in Independence are well maintained.
Enjoyed it very much. Thank you sir.
You're welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching!
enjoy this site.. thanks for showing..
You're welcome and thank you for watching!
Greetings from Tonkawa, OK.
I never knew all those details about Bob Ford. I only knew about the crooked picture story. Now I’ve learned much more. 👍
It really is an interesting story and he got some of his own medicine. Thank you so much for watching!
Throwing trash , cripping grave stones is absolutely rudeful and no excuse . Thanks for blogging.
It is sad to see this cemetery like this. It could use some community help for sure. Thank you for watching!
I don't think Jesse would turn his back to where he couldn't see Bob Ford (straighting a picture) I always had a hunch that Jesse laid very low and retired in southern Tennessee
Is there any reason for you to think he is in TN? Some story or rumor of him being there?
@@RhettyforHistory seen a photo copy of Jesse and his brother frank and others posing I believe at a work place, Jesse was a way to intelligent and paranoid just like Butch and Sundance, Butch retired and lived a good healthy life in southern Utah
Well there are at least three alternatives that Jesse lived and died in Texas. I've done a video on that subject.
I like the way you do your stories of the Old West you do your stories with a lot of respect and you know what you're talkin Just listen to another guy that goes to graveyards and he didn't do it with respect
I try to be as respectful as I can. I'm only trying to tell the story and not slant towards one side or another. That can be a challenge at times depending on what they did. Thank you for watching Tammy!
@@RhettyforHistory you welcome
Aww this cemetery, as All do looks like our town right now..Emtey..God Bless and Stay Safe..
This was before all of the chaos. But I can tell it's never been well visited which is sad. Thank you for watching!
Great video, that's my hometown,I still live there from birth. The turned over markers are from vandalism. About 10 years ago I believe.
That's sad. There is a lot of vandalism then. Many of them look as though they have shifted downhill though.
Put on what the University of Oklahoma does a BIG EVENTS which is a scheduled volunteer clean up. To clean up the cemetery there in Missouri
Thank you very interesting have a great day and be safe
Thank you for watching and you stay safe as well.
What happened to the bullets that killed ford
Thanks for the history lesson.
You're welcome and thank you for watching my friend!
Not proud by any means, but Bob and Charlie were my 3rd great granduncles. Great video!
*Awesome* video! 🖒☺
Thank you so much for watching!
Excellent video.
Thank you for watching!
Back in those days and still today, shooting someone in the back is a cowardly move
Yes it was but q lot of things Jesse did was too so they all got a taste of their own medicine. Even Ford. Thank you for watching!
I wonder what is the average number of times an outlaw claimed this will be my last job. How many times did they completely disappear from any and all records on their supposed last job by actually quitting / hiding or killed during the crime.
I'm sure it's high. I think they have always said that and still do. Thank you for watching!
Hey, David Whitmere was written on the monument to the Mormons in the Mormon cemetery where Anderson was buried in the corner. The monument listed the names of the witnesses remember?
I had forgotten about that. Makes sense that it would be since it is in the same city. Thank you for watching and pointing that out.

Very Interesting, Thank You

Great video of bob and Charlie ford
crumbling that's vandalism
I live in Richmond, born here, yes it was vandalism about 10 or 15 years ago.
I thought Charlie was the older brother. Have they got the years wrong?
Yes they do. He was actually born 20 years later. I was curious if anyone would notice. Great job!
Really a good video and King is King of the cemetery apparently.
You're right about that. Thank you for watching!
David whitmer may have seen the gold plates but had nothing to do with translations of them and after joseph Smith died he left the church saying is was false and because of that nener joined another church.
Awesome vedio I still don't like the Ford brothers
Thank you for watching!
This is what happened when the James ' tried to stop a train the first time -
As far as this being the "last" heist - Jesse and his wife had become accustomed to spending easy $$ - This money would never be enough -
Evidently the wife and Jesse's mother must not have gotten along because Mrs James' life took a downward spiral , dying with little money - Jesse's son became a lawyer , made money on staging his dad's exploits then took his own life - This story isn't told - it was a very unhappy ending
I can't believe I'm the first thumbs up,good job thanks for Sharing.
Thank you Tim! I appreciate you watching!
The date of birth on the Bob Ford grave is very wrong. He was born in 1861, not 1841. Date of death is correct.
Yes it is! I'm not sure who did that nor why especially with his brother right there.
You'll have to hit up Frank James' grave in Independence, Mo, Jesse's in Kearney, Mo., and Cole Youngers in Lee's Summit, Mo.
I have a video one each one of those locations. It was a while back though. Thank you for watching!
Is that an Orb at 15 mins?
Robert was Charles' younger brother and the marker has him born in 1841. Charles was born in 1857.
