    I must say good sir. You handle controversial figures such as The James Gang and Capt. Quantrill very well. Neither demonizing them nor excusing their actions. Very well done.

      That is true but quite honestly I have seen older cemeteries that are bigger and in smaller towns and they are better kept than this. Notice anything wrong with Robert Ford's marker? It has his birthdate as December 8, 1841. He is the younger brother of Charles. His date is at least 20 years off. The general consensus is that he was born January 31, 1862. But some think it is December 8, 1861. And when you do additional research you can see other dates and years as well. But how could they get this wrong by 20 years? Especially in his home town. It's a strange mystery. If you have any information as to who placed this marker please post it below. Also when was Bob moved from Creede, Colorado and who moved him?

      I just now saw this video and was commenting on the same issue, before I saw your comment here and deleted mine, lol. I too don't understand why the gravestone say Bob's DOB was December 8, 1841. If he was born in 1841, Bob would have been 41 years old when he shot Jesse James in 1882, and we know that wasn't the case, either. The video description later confirms Bob was 18 in 1880, and that Charley was his older brother. So why the weird DOB on Bob's gravestone? Older brother Charley's gravestone DOB is correct, 1857.

    When I see these old grave sites that have been left with no care or upkeep, I am like you in the respect that I want to clean up the site and reset the stones so the grass can again be mowed and the loved ones of long ago can have dignity in their final resting place. I have done a few of my own forgotten ancestors. But I want to do them all but I cannot . That really bothers me .
    Thank you for showing these old cemeteries and for you being so respectful to those whose families have dwindled to nonexistence and left these sites without upkeep.
    I do enjoy your travels to the cemeteries and back to places and days gone by !

    I studied the James gang as well as William McCarthy , John Booth primarily during history classes and such. But as I brought up before, There was a time when I taken a break from the National team while on tour visiting with one young lady from St. Charles Missouri that taken me to some of the local old cemeteries. This cemetery reminds of some I went too. The history of these places really touched a persons heart. I would love to return after seeing your video. Oddly I own a RV now and have the ability and money to tour the country in sight seeing these cemeteries, I just won't go a lone is all. I would love to find someone prior the memorial day (maybe a few weeks before) to go honor all the veterans I can with flags and artificial flowers around the states. Thank you again for your tour, it really means a lot. Missouri mainly as a majority of remembered times came from this state.

    Sadly, the notoriety of the famous and infamous people buried in this cemetery draws a lot of visitors and the foot traffic kind of burns a hole in the place. Then some of these people are inconsiderate and drop trash on the ground and even chip off souveniers of the headstones etc.
    I took some people over to the Clyde and Buck Barrow graves in Dallas not long ago. I told them before we got there, "It will be easy to find, when we get there, there will be a PATH worn down straight to the Clyde and Buck Barrow graves, and another path going the opposite way for people that are lost looking for it. Sure enough that was the way it was. The Barrow headstones are pushed down in CONCRETE to keep people from stealing them. That Cemetery is kind of run down too. You know, families MOVE ON to other places, they become EXTINCT etc. so these cemeteries can just run out of people that have a close enough connection to keep it going. If there is no fund for "Perpetual Care" well, with no money, and no people they can really get beaten down. GOOD VIDEO THOUGH!!! I "LIKED IT". BB

      @@TheRetirednavy92 I’ve always been to trusting, until 3 years ago when new neighbours moved in next door. Within 3 months of moving in, they had pulled down and had a fencer put in new panels of fencing without ever asking our permission (which you have to do here). They also dented 5 panels of colorbond fence starting from the front yard in numerous places (it is a mess). Never mentioned it to us or apologised, when asked nicely if he could fix it because he caused it and we only had it put in 2 years before, his response was: when I put in a new driveway. Well 3 years later ?
      Not only is it down right rude ( I have never done anything like that to anyone) it’s also illegal to change a fence without asking and the kicker he is also a Policeman. That’s when I finally stopped trusting people.
      Have a nice day, and thank you for your service. 👍

    I don't know why the Bud Light Lime bottle made me laugh so hard, but it did. Kind of sad that there is so much trash in the area though. My grandmother always said we were related to the James brothers some how or another. Unfortunately she had passed by the time I did enough research to find Bob Outlaw in the family tree. He was from Missouri and I've sometimes wondered if he didn't change his name to avoid the association. Seems odd he would pick Outlaw, though.

      One way to find out is to visit the Jesse James Homestead in MO. They have the full family tree listed on the wall and they try really hard to update it. The reason they do this is because so many say they are related and they wanted to show everyone that was. It is quite large so it is possible you could be. I would say you would see relatives on it if you were. Thank you for watching my friend.

    Ive always thought that would be an interesting You Tube project for an amature historian. Do gaveside biographies of the govenors of a particular state. Im originally from Missouri. So short graveside biographies of the Missouri govoners would be interesting.

    I was listening to a podcast of an interview with a historian that had researched a great deal on the assassination of Jesse James. A couple of odd things he noted, Jesse James removed his gun belt before adjusting/dusting the picture, which seems odd. Also the historian noted that Jesse James would have seen Bob Ford draw his firearm in the glass on the picture. The historian said it was possible that Jesse allowed himself to be shot. I have wondered about this, a wanted man such Jesse would not let his guard down. He didn't have the luxury to let his guard down. The historian did note that he didn't leave his wife and children in a very good financial position which suggests he was assassinated. History does show that criminals such as the Ford Brothers have a difficult life after they commit these acts of betrayal.

    • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory  2 роки тому +1

      Well it probably would have been common to remove the gun belt since he was in his home. Two, the reflection of the glass would not have been at the right angle. Also I have heard that the glass was placed there later to protect the picture. Almost all criminals leave their guard down at some point. We see this with Bob Ford and many others. Thank you for watching!

    It's sad to see such disrepair & the rubbish. To mark the graves of outlaws but disregard those that lived good lives & helped settle their town, shown no respect at all., Seems wrong & sad. As you said the town couldn't fix the broken ones because of the cost is understandable. But a bit of "Elbow Grease" would cost nothing but their time. I watched a video the other day off a young man in maybe 18 years plus got to forgotten &!overgrown cementries & gets his wiper snipper etc & clean them out. He did a marvelous job & brought them back to what they should be. When I get his name will post his name etc so you can see for yourself. The transformation was amazing. Cheers from Australia. 🇦🇺🐨🧡🙏🧡🙏🧡🙏🧡. Things are still not good here where I live re the pandemic. Numbers have increased & 3 deaths in the last 24hrs. I do think more could be done in this cemetery and it wouldn't take too much time or money. It's sad that it's been let go like that.
      Things sound really bad there. Our city just implemented a fine of $7 for your first offense if you don't have a mask on. If it's any time after that it goes up to $100. Here you can still go places. It's certainly a topic of controversy and it looks like it will be challenged in court.

      I am not sure where you are from but I have in every state. I toured America right prior to and after being selected for one of Americans national teams. Oddly enough during my off times, often I visited small towns and cemeteries including cemeteries in Missouri where this is. It is actually very common to see cemeteries like this actually from these time frames. The newer cemeteries are much better kept overall like from the 1980s.

    • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory  4 роки тому

      These two cemeteries are still very much active. I have to say I have been in many cemeteries from coast to coast and even around the world. I have to say thought that these were the worst I have ever seen. I could have shown so much more that I had seen and did not show. What's really sad is that this is right in the middle of town. Very shameful that the town allows this to happen. Doesn't take much to do a little. Thank you for watching.

Excelsior Springs lays claim to its "healing" Springs.
