Laugh at violas all you want but then you hear that wonderful tone of the section at the end of the video and it makes you really appreciate what violas bring to the orchestra.

as a violinist i am so so sorry that violas always get the short end of the stick. yall did nothing to deserve this, you have a deep rich tone that isnt as screechy as violins! massive respect to all the violists
But then there's the fact that they are built to be doomed. The Size-Register ratio of viola is just bad for their timbre and projection. The actual size should have been like a smaller viola da gamba or something...but then it would be almost impossible to play it because neither can you hold it like a cello, nor like a violin.
I am tired of hearing Viola jokes (I hear them everywhere. Even my friends make some). The viola is a beautiful instrument! I love its sound quality. We really are unappreciated (As a fellow Violists). Honestly I was happy to see the end of this video :)

I'm a former violist, can't play anymore due to hand issues. I had a music teacher in middle and high school that also happened to be the one I took music lessons from. He told me once that violin players are a dime a dozen, but get a really good viola player....then you have something worth holding onto. I switched to viola from violin in 7th grade and started kicking butt.

OMG the opening melody of Bernstein's Somewhere from West Side Story. I just played this part about a couple of weeks ago. And that is one of the most beautiful viola soli that i ever played in my orchestra.

I play the viola. I really wish norr people knew about them I would tell my friends that I play the viola and they would either say 'thats like a violin, right?" Or "what's a viola?" And finally, " Oh,you mean vIola,(i capitalized for emphasis)right?" We don't mean a lot to some people, but I think that is because we are kind of in the middle. Every part of an orchestra is important, we just need a little more recognition.

A viola is a four stringed instrument tuned an octave above a cello and a perfect fifth below a violin, slightly larger than a violin and played in the same way- something every person who plays a string instrument (such as a violin) should know. It is NOT like an ukulele (an because the correct pronunciation is oo-koo-lele, not yoo-ku-lay-lee therefore it starts with a vowel sound and should be preceded by an) AT ALL and I have no idea where anyone, ESPECIALLY a violinist would get that notion. What instrument did you think was in the video, miniature chin guitars?
