    OK, here's the deal with me. Tried this and it ran like crap, returned it, got some e-mails from the Boneyard telling me about BMW bikes and their tendency to have ground problems if it's just connected to frame, I asked to try it again, got it today, put in on, runs great, keeping it. ('93 K1100 LTA stock except for K&N air filter.)
    Now it has grunt where it used to have complaints, right from idle! Does what it says. Good customer service from Beemer Boneyard.

    I just got back from a test ride, removing the manipulator and the new 02 sensor, putting things back were they were before. Bike ran like it did previously before putting in the manipulator and the new sensor. Runs good now. I will be sending the thing back.

    Thanks Doug for explaining this and showing us how to hook it up. I have mine in front of me now. Going to put in on my K1100. Without this vid, I would have about given up on how to hook it up.

    You gotta cut out all those extra wires first. It makes it easier to get to the end part where it doesn’t work.

    Does anyone know if this modification can or could have any effect upon combustion chamber carbon / valve stem deposits? I have heard of a 4 valve K bike that had a chunk of carbon come off an exhaust valve, get stuck between it and the seat and burn the valve out.

    I was hoping you (or anyone else here with the Xied) could tell me if the instructions included tuning/adjustment steps? If too much for a comment, a picture or PDF in an email would work also.
    A K1100RS I bought has one installed, and I'd like to make sure it's set correctly, and how to read the LED indicators on it.
    Thanks!

      Go to www.nightrider.com/ for the install document. For my bike (R1100R) there was an early version of the manipulator and a late version (which I just purchased). The LED startup pattern is a little different on the new version than what the install document states. How to tell the new from old version I have no clue. Contact the Boneyard for help with determining which version you have and for a copy of the supplement that explains the startup pattern.

    I'm curious to know how this compared to the Booster Plug you installed in an earlier video. I installed the BP to try to reduce the extreme snatchiness of the throttle at near closed position...I use engine brake in the twisties and I hate the slamming-on-and-off when leaned hard over. The BP seems to help when the engine is cold, but once I get to 5 bars it's pretty much back to normal.

    • @glennevans4836
      @glennevans4836 7 років тому

      Also, is a new O2 sensor recommended?

    • @kirksmotorrad
      @kirksmotorrad  7 років тому +1

      I ride the bike hard and always love the twisties. As for engine braking, I will use that in combination with some rear braking, but never either of them abruptly... smooth and steady with all controls, and with your suspension loading. That being said, I don't experience the slamming you describe. For the O2 sensor, even though I'm cheap, I believe in changing "linked" parts when you can. (ex. I always change tires in pairs) If the sensor is near it's life, why not go ahead and change it, especially since the module is relying on it programming itself. It will be dialed in properly for a longer period of time, and not go wonky if the old sensor starts to go bad.

    Hello Doug,
    I am new to BMW bikes but recently purchased a 2000 R1100RT.I like the bike and enjoy keeping it up.I was watching your video in regards to the O2 Module and was interested to know if you are still running it and if you would purchase it again?Also have you noticed any additional performance gains or losses?Did you tune the module using an Air/Fuel gage?
    I look forward to your response.
    Thanks
    Jeff

      Jeff Moore Hi Jeff. Yes I am still running it and yes I would certainly get it again. I have been making a couple of slight adjustments to it by simply turning the dial on it with a small screw driver... then run a couple of tanks through it to give the motronic time to adjust, and see if there are results. I have been increasing my fuel mileage from the first install while still maintaining the increased smoothness, responsiveness, and lack of surging. (Areas I don't feel are a product of wishful/ hopeful thinking, especially when readings were/ are taken before, after, and since the install for comparison.) My biggest enjoyment out of it has been the new life injected into it... it simply has more "snap" to it, replacing a sluggish delay. Hope this helps... Doug

    I just installed this on my '93 K1100 LTA, and took it out for a test ride. It ran like crap.
    I experienced slow idle, rough idle, extreme surging (impossible to keep a steady rpm in neutral) and big loss of power. It reminded me of real dirty injectors. Previous to this the bike ran great, and I was getting between 45 and 50 mpg.
    This was installed with a new 02 sensor.
    Right now the setting is on 8 (counting 8 yellow flashes) and I'm not sure if I want to take it and the new 02 sensor out and put back in the old sensor and run it like it was without this manipulator, or try some BMW fuel system cleaner in case it is dirty injectors.
    I think I'll go back to the way it was and hope I can get my $295.85 back.
    One think it seemed to do was get rid of most of the pinging, something that always irritated me. It did seem to do that. Too bad it ran so bad. I wondered if I would make it home.

      Chuck Holmes Hi Chuck, I had about 65k on the bike when I installed it.

    For a bit more you could have purchased a Dynojet Power Commander III USB with a true Wideband sensor. The Afxied is nothing but a hack to make a narrow band sensor perform unpredictably richer.

      I don't know which generation (1, 2 or 3) Power Commander the Boneyard references, but they said the AF-XiED was so superior to the DC that they sold it and began selling the AF. www.beemerboneyard.com/bmwafxied1100u.html

    Just an observation, you should edit your video to the essential information you want broadcast only. And, you should do a few dry runs before you turn on the camera.

  • @Redmenace96
    @Redmenace96 4 роки тому +1

    I know these vids are old, but just in case you make more....
    You don't have to show, 'removing the fuel tank' in every vid. It is a waste of time/energy, just get to the job at hand.

  • @GarthGoldberg
    @GarthGoldberg 9 років тому

    I wish I could say I like this video but I can't. I think your evaluation of this product is subjective and a product of wishful/hopeful thinking. I think you're introducing potential unreliability into a critical motor system by splicing wires, especially using butt connectors.

    • @jeffkeni
      @jeffkeni 4 роки тому +3

      Subjective?? If you are watching and commenting on this video, I assume you ride motorcycles. Perhaps you have direct experience with first generation oilheads. Have you experienced the surge firsthand? Have you experienced the results this device produces? I tend to think any motorcyclist with the motivation and ability to DIY something like this controller hack is keen enough to perceive a bonafide performance improvement.

      There is no excuse for not importing the right connectors to make this plug and play. Even if it cost a bit more it would be worth it.
