- Dr. Craig Evans debate with Rabbi Tovia Singer, "Is Jesus the Promised Jewish Messiah?" Recorded at the campus of one of the many prestige Christian universities, Houston Baptist University on November 8, 2014.
Craig Evans has authored over 70 authoritative Christian apologetic books and over 600 Christian journals. He is a highly esteemed Christian biblical scholar, specializing in the New Testament. Rabbi Tovia Singer has had the chance to debate him in Houston, Texas, with Christian students and Jews in the live audience.
The debate starts with Craig Evans giving his opening statement, mentioning Josephus, the contemporary historian during Jesus' time. He argues also that the Jews have made the mistake in claiming Bar Kochba as the Messiah, even though he was not. If rabbis can be wrong about him, could it be that they are also wrong about Jesus?
Rabbi Tovia Singer then gives his opening statement which is followed by rebuttal from Craig Evans and again, a rebuttal from the rabbi. Watch the entire debate in this video.

Hello Rabbi Tovia Singer. I am a listener from Nigeria. Thank you for helping me break from the chains of idolatry Christianity is. May Elohim Israel be Praised
I'm from the Philippines and I just recently discovered Rabbi Singer. I give credit and thanks to someone here for sharing me the Jewish Torah but for some personal reason I had to move on without him and began to do my own research. I listen to Rabbi Friedman, Skobak, Anava, Mizrachi and now Rabbi Singer. I was once told it doesn't matter what one believe it doesn't change the truth. And Torah is the Truth. It was so easy for me to accept it as a Roman Catholic because the mistakes in my own religion before was a no brainer. The Jewish Torah is the original. The Jewish Scholars will know better. It is their book and life and they are ancient people. They are indeed the Light to the Nations. And I praise Hashem YHVH for letring me live in such tiimes that the internet is now avalable and revealing these knowledges. The God of Israel is the only One True Living God. These Rabbis are courageously giving the world the ancient wisdom. Even nature has Hashem's finger print called the Golden Ratio. ..One Creator...One Designer Only...we are just Created...
If Rabbi Singer can read this comment I send him my Thank You for his bravery and wisdom because what he is doing with the rest of the teacher is very very hard. But with their Torah and the God of Israel on their side they will eventually succeed. A Philppine President once accepted 2000 Jewish Refugees during WW2. We are the only Asian nation who opened our doors to the Jews and voted for the State of Israel. Our only predicament is we were conquered by the Spaniards. Filipinos are intelligent people. Someone just has to teach us.

I think you're bewitched, because if you know anything about the Hebrew Bible which Christians call the Old Testament, you would know that there are 613 laws to follow, and some of those laws transgressed have as a penalty death. Shall I give you examples of all the times that God ordered the Israelites to kill, wipe out entire villages? If Rabbi Singer is going to legitimately eliminate God the Son, who says to love your enemy, then we are back to vengeance killing. That's our native instinct anyway, so you'll get no argument from me, but if I abandon the new testament what am I left with ?
I grew up Lutheran and attended a Lutheran school my whole adolescent life. What Tovia says, I started finding in my 30’s. Had they taught me Hebrew and knew more about Judaism, I would have been a Jew a long time ago. Now I’m in my 40’s and in love with the word of HaShem. The deeper I go the more I see the truth he speaks.

I would not trust a voice that says to follow or add to HaShem. For he is testing you to see if you truly love and follow him. Jesus is an add on or change. He was not there in the beginning like John says or HaShem would’ve straight out told people. HaShem tells everyone that there is no one else long before Jesus was born. He is not a man, and man can not be God. No man can atone for another mans sin. HaShem opposes human sacrifice and want me to believe he would do the exact thing he told us not to do? I don’t buy into it anymore. Sorry.
By saying what you would do if you knew Hebrew you also explain WHY the Christian system doesn’t teach Christians Hebrew. For the same reason Jews and especially Rabbies, are demonized. There is a deliberate effort imbedded in Christianity to keep Christians at a physical and emotional distance from the source evidentiary basis which Christianity claims to be the fulfilment of.

I came to the truth thanks to having randomly found Rabbi Tovia’s channel. All it took was watching one of his videos and I was left mouth open. I couldn’t believe the truth was in front of me all along. I thank G*d everyday for having allowed me to come to the truth.

G*d made it happen in the most random way because honestly I never imagined myself listening to a Rabbi and making such a drastic change in what I believed so quickly.I didn’t add to my original comment that the night before I was crying out to G*d to please guide me because I felt so confused. There is no deep teachings in churches. They do not instruct how to conduct a Biblical study for oneself nor instruct parents chow to teach their own children.

What did you repent of exactly? I’m a Gentile and it’s because of Yeshua Ha Mashiach that I am enjoined to HaShem, the God of Israel! For the sake of clarification, the Apostle Paul was telling Gentile followers of Yeshua not to boast or make themselves greater then Israel or the Jewish followers of Yeshua and definitely not to believe that the Church had replaced Israel (a very dangerous and erroneous doctrine that has had ruinous effects throughout Church History unfortunately). I would think that rejecting replacement theology would be a much better step for the Church than promoting it and teaching it!
@@Drooblemeister so one example of the texts being corrupted is in psalms it says 'kiss the son' in the christian translation to make it sound like jesus. Except to believe that as a christian you are saying that all 150 psalms that exists are in hebrew and the word kiss. Just the son is in Aramaic. And wrong grammar for THE son. And sons in plural is in hebrew in the same psalm. And son in hebrew is endlessly through psalms. And the hebrew translation fits the context after seeing the previous few psalms. And thus oddity is just where they claim it says kiss the son. Now that is only 1 random example from me to show you what I mean by blatant. Imagine many many more times these shenanigans just where they want to show a proof text

We've read many different versions and even studied church history and are still working on learning Hebrew. We will happily study the Torah Prophets and Psalms the rest of our lives and still not learn all there is to learn. The first thing we did when we studied Paul's epistles was toss that pychopaths letters OUT.... once we realized Paul was poison we learned that the entire new testament wasn't worth the paprus it was written on. He will be born of human parents. Therefore the claim of a supernatural conception disqualifies Jesus immediately. He will be a great political leader. He never was. That he would bring peace to the world. He never did.

Evans doesn't use scholarship to make his point. He merely preaches a sunday sermom. What a sad ramble cherry picking scriptures. So typical and ineffective. The rabbi won this debate hands down.

Craig opens by trying to use Josephus to demonstrate the openness of Jews to different interpretations of messiah.
