The significance of this scene to the whole series can't be understated. Agent J started out by giving humanity the benefit of the doubt too much. Then as he began to work at MIB he had to act on what Agent K said here. He couldn't trust humanity to know any of the secrets MIB was keeping because that would easily spark panic and violence on a scale never before seen. He couldn't afford to have that happen because MIB's major mission is to preserve human life on Earth. One person can be smart, but humanity as a whole is volatile and gullible. Yet it's J's view in this moment that dominates our culture, today.
The best part of this, when applied to todays political landscape, is that each side thinks it's the other side that is being dangerous animals. When in fact this means everyone, including me. Including you.
Agent K was right. Agent J, sadly, was wrong. Rationality and intelligence are not the default of humanity. One person is smart, and humanity as a whole is gullible and volatile.
This is one of my favorite scenes in cenema. I love the quote, "Imagine what we will know tomorrow." The fact that agent J stayed at the same spot, thinking about this decision he has to make and the sun setting, brilliantly beautiful 💯🎬

As much as this thing has gone flat. And it has. I can imagine, them trying to work that into a Men In Black Adventure. Like, some kind of time travel thing where in order to restore the timeline Agent J, has to knock out Will Smith and take his place at the Oscars.
Sadly very true. Get us together in a group and we tend to listen to the dumbest most charismatic people, and once a majority of stupid is formed there's no way an individual can fight it.

I am and will always be an insignificant speck inside a universe filled with insignificant specks who, no matter what we accomplish personally or globally, will never make even a drop of a difference in the grand scheme of things. “A person is smart, people are dumb” it’s funny because our ability to work together as a species is why a place like Manhattan exists. It’s true but not true at the same time.
True it's why we have leadership elected or otherwise. Most people don't want to make grand decisions and when something too big comes crashing down on them they react in fear.
Difference is building Manhattan took some smart, calm, knowing-what-they're-doing people. A small group of people led by a person. Now look at entire America. POTUS only wants his votes, and there's a global pandemic. And WHILE there's a global pandemic, POTUS's "job" is getting votes. He doesn't give a shit about what's going on outside. A person is smart. People are dumb animals.
One of my favorite things about this scene is that J has to decide about getting into a world where he will be gone to the world. And after the talk with K, he sits on a the bench and stay alone until it's dark. Maybe meaning he doesn't have anyone in his life in this world, giving him the decision to go for it.

I think Men in Black and Evolution are the true sequels to Ghostbusters. In Ghostbusters, the heroes go from college erudites to blue collar problem solvers. In MiB, a beat cop becomes a government agent to prevent a galactic catastrophe. In Evolution, a bunch of rag tag assholes from a community college prevent an alien menace. So many people are asking for a sequel to Ghostbusters, when it has been here for decades
The last part “If you’re strong enough” is key. Whatever system we end up with after this economic reset we’re going through is bound to be vastly better than life before. Why fight to go back to the old days? We’ll endure; if we’re strong enough.

Yet it's J's view in this moment that dominates our culture, today.
This rivals some Matrix dialogue. Brilliantly done.
Love how the big message of the entire movie is basically: DUDE, YOU DONT HAVE AN IDEA HOW SMALL YOUR WORLD ARE.
Love the look on Wills face when he tells him no one will know he exists. Ever.
He’s like “wtf!?….”
Little did he know that Agent K was taking care of him from his childhood.
The best part of this, when applied to todays political landscape, is that each side thinks it's the other side that is being dangerous animals. When in fact this means everyone, including me. Including you.
Such a beautiful scene. Also makes me miss films from the 90s! blockbuster sure but it still had something real to it.
0:02 foreshadowing men in black international.
Apart from the misconception that nobody new the earth was spheric, those are great lines.
Agent K and Agent Smith ( from The Matrix ) had 2 of the best statements about how people as a whole can be.
Agent K was right. Agent J, sadly, was wrong. Rationality and intelligence are not the default of humanity. One person is smart, and humanity as a whole is gullible and volatile.
@@RavenclawFtW3295 it’s because we feed off each other. One charismatic person says something awful and all the sheep yells “yea he’s right!!”
One of the best bits of cinema from the modern generations
This is one of my favorite scenes in cenema. I love the quote, "Imagine what we will know tomorrow." The fact that agent J stayed at the same spot, thinking about this decision he has to make and the sun setting, brilliantly beautiful 💯🎬
Everyone talks about the people quote but “Oh yeah, it’s worth it… if you’re strong enough” hits in a different way for me now that I’m working on my career.
Will is a beautiful and intelligent man. Tommy lee is on an unbelievably whole nother level...
I've Reached The Point In My Life Since My Grandfather Died, Where I Realized No One That Loves Me Exists.
Working A Warehouse Job, Trade , School, Or Military Isn't For Me.
I Have Nothing To Lose And Don't Care To Ever Be Seen Again .
So I'd Take The Job..
Still the most underrated 51 seconds of dialog in film today.
"What's the catch?" "You gotta slap a man at The Oscars"
As much as this thing has gone flat. And it has. I can imagine, them trying to work that into a Men In Black Adventure. Like, some kind of time travel thing where in order to restore the timeline Agent J, has to knock out Will Smith and take his place at the Oscars.
Sadly very true. Get us together in a group and we tend to listen to the dumbest most charismatic people, and once a majority of stupid is formed there's no way an individual can fight it.
“A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it.”
Mob mentality in a nutshell.
See, this is why 80s/90s action films were the best, they delivered what they promised, but they also gave you things you weren't expecting like this scene.
Who else here in 2024 ever since drone & orb sightings!👽🛸💨
MIB3 just made this scene more heartwarming knowing that K watched J all his life until he recruited him into MIB.
The ego check this entire movie gives people is subtle yet so important. I know most people either don't care about it or miss it entirely but I watched this movie 20 plus years ago and this scene and the ending to this movie still stays with me and keeps me from getting too big of a head.
I am and will always be an insignificant speck inside a universe filled with insignificant specks who, no matter what we accomplish personally or globally, will never make even a drop of a difference in the grand scheme of things. Like the Roach said: We don't matter, and in some years we won't even be matter.
The garbage that's happening today only proves this point. It's sad but it's very relevant to what's happening today.
the hive mind effect and conformism.
@@Darth_Nox13 Exactly. Can't conform to the patterns of others behavior. Be smart and use the brain it's supposed to be used.
This is my feeling with Corona Virus
when people panic at a virus that wont even approache the amount of people killed by cigarettes in half a year
@@DM-xi3hwthis did not age well. I hope you were lucky enough to age.
One of my favourite scenes of all time
Track is called J Contemplates by Danny Elfman
WHY has this scene been drastically edited and shortened when MIB is shown in TV??
Additional commercial time. They also speed up regular TV shows slightly. You often see them at 1.25x speed, especially reruns.
because this information is not for sheeple
Because businesses think that a Kia commercial is more important than hearing Will Smith speak.
@Jalan Marshall is enough to catch somebody lying and deceiving you once, will you ever trust him blindly? i guess not.
the truth is like a puzzle, you have hundreds, thousands of pieces to put together in order to see the big picture...
instead of watching the movie you must realize there is no scene
A introvert’s dream life. 😂
1:54 when the twin towers were still there
Jack the certified G no shit
Pipe Tunes Innocent? What world are you living in? Forget about genocide of Native Americans, enslavement of Africans, the World Wars, the Holocaust, the Soviet Purges, Cambodia, China?
rmonty94 wait what’d he say? the comment’s not there anymore.
You know that at the very start you can see them clearly, right?
After seeing alien sightings recently, this movie is a documentary.
Reminds me of one of my favorite Venture Bros quotes: "ever since God crapped out a third caveman, a conspiracy was hatched against one of them!"
As a person You need to learn to only trust yourself. As people, well that depends.
One of my favorite things about this scene is that J has to decide about getting into a world where he will be gone to the world. And after the talk with K, he sits on a the bench and stay alone until it's dark. Maybe meaning he doesn't have anyone in his life in this world, giving him the decision to go for it.
Man, it’s crazy the movies that stand the test of time. I think this movie is a classic that people will talk about years from now
Great quote from K. Sums up life in a nutshell really
0:51 "what's the catch? The catch? The catch is you will sever every human contact. Nobody will ever know you exist anywhere. Ever. I'll give you until sunrise to think it over. Hey! Is it worth it? Oh, yeah, it's worth it. If you're strong enough."
Imagine what we'll know tomorrow...
New York in the 90s really was the shit. God this vibe I can't get enough.
He's right about the dangerous animals part ...
I love those words as it holds the truth about people. Less is more.
Bro, I always think of this scene when I have a heavy decision to make. That bassline comes into my mind haha
This is the scene that sticks out to me the most out of all of their movies.
for those who ask about the music
"Men In Black (1997) J Contemplates (Soundtrack OST)"
This is the greatest scene delivery and script writing in movie history....
I said what I said
It's tragic to think if there really were aliens on Earth, they wouldn't want us to know.
There are. And they don't. Seriously.
There are some at this facility:
36°46'17"N 116°06'51"W
The last part “If you’re strong enough” is key. Whatever system we end up with after this economic reset we’re going through is bound to be vastly better than life before. Why fight to go back to the old days? We’ll endure; if we’re strong enough.
Wow. To think people like you will be first in line to get chipped. Sad reality we live in unfortunately
No need to chip. Cell-phones are a gateway on their own.
@@youbian yeah, and when they make cell phones obsolete and chips are the only way to stay attached to the ever so important social media, idiots will flock in droves to be implanted.
The fuck is with this conspiracy theorist "getting chipped" shit? You do realise technology is like 100 years out from where you think it is? We ain't getting chipped like dogs anytime soon.
@Lord Quin Oh yeah sorry I forgot about the alien tech at area 51. Goofy ass nucca.
something about this scene. sitting on a bench in the summer in NYC in the 90s as the evening rolls in...just makes me nostalgic
This was a sign lol
This scene is so perfect
TLJ was 50 when this movie was made. Now 77. He looked 77 back then. Man I’m so glad he is still with us
