Jesus has the worst finishing according to xG amongst top strikers. Every season criminally under performs his xG. How can anyone say he is not an awful finisher amongst other players of a similar level is bizarre
xG is a very useless stat without context if you want to look at xG and BCMs you’d say Haaland hasn’t had a great start to this season👍

Goals compared to xG is literally the best stat for determining finishing. The issue with trying to debate Nunez is people don't actually watch every Liverpool game, so the perception is he only misses good chances. Ignoring the fact he still hit double figures last season despite injuries and being rotated a lot, he causes more issues for defences than any other striker in the league that isn't Haaland. Go watch the Villa game last month and ask Pau Torres if he'd rather play against Darwin or Watkins, I guarantee he's picking Watkins 99 times out of 100.

I think nunez is good and getting better, and those 2 goals vs newcastle showed what he can be imo, but he still has problems. I think he can easily be top 5 by the end of the season, but I still think he needs to prove it.
@@merlinbotha363 Newcastle had the joint best defence last season in the league, Nunez scored against them and then scored twice against them this season.
Also scored against Arsenal, City (and assisted) and Real Madrid last season. You can be as solid as you want but he's quicker, stronger and jumps higher than most defenders, which means it's the solid defences he usually does well against.
Can't remember a defence that actually kept him quiet, he always gets himself 1 good chance a game. This season he's becoming more clinical and if he does get 20+ goals this season (already on 4 in 3 starts) then it won't even be an argument he's at least top 5

Son's 8+ years of EPL xG is 81.18 where he scored 108 goals for +26.82. That's full 33% above average footballer. No one is in his neighborhood. Not Haaland - he is bang average converting his xG to goals in EPL and was slightly above average in Bundeslega - and not even Kane who were pretty good at 181.91 xG leading to 210 goals which came are out to 15% above average. Jesus is terrible. Played 6 years getting fed by silver platter from KBD and never finished plus xG NEVER scored 15 goals in a league. Total goals score for 7 years are 69 where an average footballer should've scored 92.23 goals. That is two standard deviation worse than average.
Son is in the top 3 finishers in the World. If he had played main man ahead of Kane would have been interesting how many more goals he would have scored. He had an off season last season and so many people are knee jerk pushing him down the list

Reev is spot on with his arguement but Son should be higher on the list. #9's are meant to finish and be in the right positions to score goals, Haaland barely touches the ball yet when he has a chance he finishes it. Watkins over Jesus is fully justified as Watkins is the more clinical finisher and his positioning is great.
Exactly, sometimes I can’t listen to Theo talk ball because he constantly contradicts himself trying to be right. The striker scores first and foremost. I’m a city fan, i fucking love Gabby still, realistically as a striker he simply is not clinical enough. Especially in teams like city and arsenal where there’s so many chances created, you don’t need your striker involved everywhere, you need him parked in or around the 18 yard box scoring goals. Also agree with the Son point, I genuinely think he’s only low because it’s hard to think of him as a striker still.
There are different types of strikers. Strikers like haaland are mainly there to score goals and be a target man but strikers like Jesus can be seen as false 9 sort of strikers who offer a lot of things haaland doesn’t. Kind of like how pep has ederson in goal, he’s not one of the best shot stoppers in the world (like scoring for a striker) but he is with his feet so that’s why pep wants him (like the other things Jesus offers)

Translates to 18 league goals over a whole campaign of mins. This season he’s on 1.52 xG p90 and 0.25 xA which is brilliant. Whilst also significantly improving pressures p90. His underlying numbers are incredible.

Jesus is one of those players that people like to laud over because of his technical ability, but he's technical ability doesn't change whether he's doing the job of a striker to score buckets of goals, especially for a top 4 team, rate it Reev.
Edit: Just as a frame of reference this is a striker who's never got over 15 goals in the league and has only got into double figures 3 times in the league

@@Callumh1113 He missed 13 games and is generally over the years a 1 in 3 striker so even playing those games his most likely end product would have been 15 for the season, which is great, but it's not top 2 in the Premier League great. Let alone he's 1 in 3 record is very consistent playing from wide at City to 9 at Arsenal now which shows he's actually no better at 9 than he is at LW, which again is a great option to have but not top 2 number 9 specifically.
