  • What is life like on board an aircraft carrier that is heading towards an area where the war is raging intensely? The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, a huge floating city and the flagship of the Carrier Strike Group, carries more than 5,000 US Navy sailors, all overflowing with readiness for the challenges ahead. Together with its accompanying ships and aircraft, the Carrier Strike Group forms a formidable force, ready to tackle a range of missions from combat to humanitarian aid. The atmosphere is filled with apprehension and strain as they make their way toward the turbulent Middle East, prepared to confront a conflict as dangerous as the unforgiving sea itself. But the journey itself isn’t as smooth as it sounds; though heroic, the souls aboard encounter days unlike any other, with their lives rather different as compared to the ordinary person on land. The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower is a BIG deal, a powerful presence in these uncertain waters. Plus, the current state of the Middle East, with its long history and ongoing conflicts, is like a box of matches, ready to ignite at the smallest spark. And in the middle of it all, here’s this huge carrier strike group, standing strong, potentially stirring the pot, ready for action at the very notice, housing brave individuals trained to take on some of the most difficult tasks, and live through the toughest of times.

Shoutout To The Captain of the Eisenhauer, Christopher "Chowdah" Hill! He's an awesome person, a Great leader, humble, Dedicated, highly professional and resolved! His empathy for others is a definite strength! I can see why the upper Echelon picked him to be Captain of the IKE! He Definitely has earned it! His crew is equally as awesome and professional! Had the pleasure of talking not only to Captain Hill but also some of his crew in the recent past. Great bunch of people indeed! God Bless and GodSpeed to the Crew and Officers of the USS Eisenhauer! And Thank you to the Families that supported their Loved ones Careers and Confidence and sacrificed time away from said loved ones so they could perform their very important duties! I thank the Sailors for their Service and I also thank the Families for their Service of Sacrifice!

I was on IKE from 1991-1996. OE division. My berthing was at frame 235 (far aft), starboard side, on the O2 level (two decks below the flight deck). We could hear the jet engine tests at night too. I can sleep through anything now. I worked around frame 135, starboard side, on the O3 level (below the island). My husband was commissioned the USS Halyburton FFG40 (decom in 2014) and the USS Vicksburg CG69 (due to decom in 2024). I miss our life in the Navy, it's so different than civilian life. I was assign to (AIMD) Ship's company aboard the "IKE" in Newport News, VA prior to her compilation. Then I became a "Plank Owner' due to the ship's commissioning in October of 1977. I also became a "Shellback" because we left the MED and rounded Africa to end up in the Persian Gulf to relieve the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) during the "Iranian Crisis". Then my tour ended in 1980 and flew to Norfolk.

Never tell any one your dreams/goals,just put your mind to accomplish them. Don't wait for anybody's approval, pat on the back,etc,etc,...like when I decided to go fight in Iraq with the Texas Guard ( went on 4 deployments, also did 2 tours back-to-back ) then did 10 yrs as an over-seas contracter to Iraq,Qatar,Afghanistan and Kuwait. I've been back in the states for almost 2 yrs now. Set your mind to do the things you chose. SEMPER-FI

For folks that work day & night check it's all in a days work but if you work flight ops to flight ops you bust your ass. Nothing like having first launch at 0500 and last recovery at 0200 and it starts over again, you get three hours sleep, not actually because when you get back to the coop you need a shower and if you're not fast you have to wait on everyone else first. It feels like when you finally fall asleep the lights come back on and it's time to get up again. There wasn't no hour lunch it was get down to the mess deck and eat as fast as you can and get your butt back to the shop.

The news keeps reporting the 2 carriers in the Mediterranean responding to the conflict, but there's 3 carrier groups in the region. The media keeps forgetting about the Pacific fleet which has a carrier group in the Persian Gulf.
What on Earth does the US expect needing 3 carrier groups? That's more advanced Naval firepower than the US has ever deployed anywhere, even in time of war. That tells me they're expecting to enter the war.

At 0:31 you show a launch ready F-35. At 10:08 a series of parked F-35s. Problem is none are in the Ike. It has three squadrons of F-18s, I do believe. 10:30 is from a sub. I like these shots, just not the Ike.
