How To....Substance Painter Fur Brush Basics

- A quick tutorial on basic use of Eslar's fur brush & filter for Substance Painter to make fluffy textures for VRMs or VRChat. Let me know if you'd be interested in a part II where we could go over some of the material setup in Unity with the Poiyomi shader.

Very nice video! I'm trying to learn this and you made it look easy.
I would love to see how to properly export the finished texture to VRChat with poiyomi shader. And also emissive layers.
You got a new follower :)
Extremely useful!! Thank you!!
Would love to see more parts of the process after this one to the complete avatar
Very nice, thank you! Really appreciate that you're going straight to the point too.
You're avatar is cute! Thank you for the tutorial, got me up and running quickly.
That was super helpful. Thank you. I have so many questions though. I would love for you to expound on this more. Settings you use and the shader for vrchat. I get muddy results. Thanks again.
you may need to switch to 4k
can you update this to the newer version? i keep coming back to this tut every time i need it for a comm xD
Great starting tutorial! Thanks
Thank you phys this really helps.
Awesome tutorial! It really helps a lot! I do have one question... a single layer of color went down great with no tip bleeding, however when I want to go back and add more of that color to other areas or I want to add more layers with different colors, there is a lot of bleed through from the lower layer colors and I'm struggling to expand the color from the first color layer to other areas. (this is after I duplicated the first layer and already assigned tips and base.) Sorry if that sounds confusing, I'm new to this haha
Tip and base will bleed through, you may need to add both tips and a base layer ti recolor an area.
Very good video 😌 just one question. If i already have a finished texture, can I add it over the fur data layers?
Yes, but the blending may look odd and need touching up
I am leaving a comment here because I found this useful! 😉
No free alternatives?
Hello thank you for sharing. I am curious, is there any way how to "furify" already existing and completed .spp texture with this material without repainting? I kinda forgot I have it in Gumroad library.
Kinda, the blending between colour regions works differently than non-furbrushed. You could certainly add in the furbrush underneath your existing textures though.
I have tried following this video 3 different times and it just wont work like yours. I did the entire base texture for my mesh and now when i try to add other colors on top it doesnt work right. If i made the base black(color im trying to add for fur) then entire mesh just turns grey, if i leave the base white then the fur i put on top is grey not black. I'm trying to texture a calico cat.
Sounds like you may be adjusting the wrong layer. Make sure that you're not adjusting colour in the "fur data" layer and make sure that you have solid fill colour layers and are adjusting the masks only (to replicate the work shown in the video)
You too can have a fluffy banana. Thank you sir

My browser has this video auto complete when I type UA-cam in my address bar.
I'm having trobule with the fur brush
bought the brush, but it's super laggy, keep crashing
it is a heavy tool
how did you do that avatar to explain the video
The avatar in the corner is a VRM, tracking captured with VSeeFace and final render in VTuberPlus
Furries to the rescue once again! Thank you!
