- In this episode we eliminate the annoying ticking that comes from the high pressure direct injection. Now you only hear sweet exhaust noise.

Wow A Hechinger shirt and the ticking noise great content! It probably drive me crazy too
i love hearing the mechanics of the c8 engine. Like a little factory behind my head.
I did this to my C5 coupe and it made a world of difference. Nice job!!! I wouldn’t have the stones to do it to a new C8 however. LOL!!! 🤣
Thanks for inspiring me to do this! For me the road noise was an issue on some rough road surfaces to the point where I didn't want to listen to the radio or chat with my passenger. I am amazed you did it in 6 hours! I am into it for 4 full days. (BTW I also messed up one of the speakers, could not figure out how to separate the clip after lifting the red tab, urggg).
When it switches to V4, the sneeze sound you hear is the mechanism that locks the intake and exhaust valves. I have no AFM valves, and the sneeze sound remains. Some people's AFM valves are squeaky too but that can be remedied at the valves. Glad to hear this worked for the sewing machine sound! I'll be doing this mod for sure.
It’s funny I never heard it in my HTC until I installed cold air intake and ported manifold. Now I hear it all the time at low speeds and low stereo volume. I was told it is called the sewing machine behind you, but totally normal.
I’m not sure I wanna lose the exhaust sound, but otherwise seems like a great project.
Thanks inspired me to do mine.. frunk..front wheel arche's.. floor pan..with a 3 stage process..
Nice
Everybody should do this. A good job for little Johnny or the neighbor boy next door when he isn't cutting the grass. Note, this should be done within one month of purchase or insanity could ensue, ticking like Chinese water torture.
Ticking as a DI feature and not a bug is because the new C8 is really da bomb. True bomb? The new Eray. Don't park it in the garage.
P.S. more bomb stuff and unacceptable NVH? AFM. Turning 4 cylinders off, radically reduces engine life. Gotta love Chevy Engineering and their planned obsolescence.
Man I wish I knew this was coming! I’d love to have you test the Bose system speakers to find out what their impedance is! I’d love to be able to replace some of them for better sound, especially the 4” door speakers with a good co-ax to get a tweeter in there! Would love to know if the Bose speakers are 4 ohm, 2 ohm, or something odd! Maybe a suggestion for an upcoming video…
The ticking drives me nuts! Guess I’ll be ripping mine apart and doing this :)!
I always hit the Z button the second I get in to avoid that afm valve crap. I cant wait until someone makes something to turn that feature off. Whoever thought making the corvette fuel efficient at GM is an idiot.
Looking forward to seeing the exhaust get done!
Thanks for sharing this process! You refer to a ticking sound, which I start hearing that noise today on the C8. Have you made any research on it? Normal stuff? I found a few different opinions even from people taking the cars for warranty - lifter, fuel injection, manifold leaking.
Good video!
In my C8, the overwhelming noise source is road noise from the front tires. Its so loud, I don't turn on the stereo a highway speed because I can't really hear it. Likewise, I don't hear the direct injection ticking over the road noise. My C8 is a 2023 Stingray with 3LT interior and is a non-Z51. The car has the tires that came from the factory.
This would probably help your situation for sure. I didn't go too crazy in the foot wells, but that would mitigate a lot of road noise. All doing the inside of the wheels well liners.
Just looked at the date on this video...LOL you might already have the exhaust!
Added weight from sound deadening = lower performance. Come on man, you should be used to this as a C5Z owner with sound deadening removed from the factory to save weight!
Probably 8lbs added. I will shed 40lbs doing the exhaust. 🤷🏼♂️
@@VetOnVettes Ok 8lbs i honestly not bad at all. Do you hear the exhaust note less too? That would be a downside for me.
36 sqft weight 16.5 pounds. My box used half for partial door coverage. So about 40-60 pounds sounds right
Hi great video. How many sheets of the deadner sould I order?
Shoud you disconnect the battery when removing the seats? Concern is airbag errors
i was gonna ask if you could disable the valves, sounds like that would be the plan. Good to hear it turned out being worth it, and it wouldn't be a proper job if you didn't draw blood!
Awesome video!! I think I'll do the same to my C8, I'll post to my channel as well to show how it goes...maybe even do a before and after on the sound. What exhaust are you thinking about doing?
Can you not get the Range device for the C8 like they have for the C7 to make it stop going into V4 mode? I got it for my C7 and I didn't really notice a huge difference in gas mileage. Still getting 25+ on road trips. For a V8 that's pretty good. But, if you own a Corvette is gas mileage really a big concern?
Yo man can I drive down to ya and pay you to do this? 😂
I want it so bad but like...I'll prob break more than a speaker lol.
Great video! I'm used to the ticking and had a c6 that ticked too...but this would be so nice.
I have a HTC and I’ve added sound deadening mat in the doors (it makes your speakers sound significantly louder and better), but I’ve also considered doing this as well just to reduce road noise. Does it also reduce the amount that you hear the exhaust? My fear of doing this is making my exhaust sound quieter from inside the cabin.
did you have to remove battery to remove seats?
This should be an option from assembly line😊
Agreed. 🤙👍
I thing I want to do that. Good video
Beyond the ticking being annoying, there is no actual mechanical problem? Is it normal/ characteristic for the engine on the c8? Thanks
No. Just an annoyance (for some people).
Is it also worth it to Killmat the Doors? I'm interested in lowering the road noise. at 80mph, the tire noise is crazy in my C8 Conv.
If you change the tires from Run Flat tires to standard tires most of the road noise goes away. Ride quality improves too.
I don’t remember hearing ticking in mine..
The v4 sounds like running over a license plate
The pushrod ticking is pretty loud in my C5Z at like 2000rpm or so...
Pushrods don’t tick…on LS motors, especially C5 LS1’s, it’s the injectors.
Would u do the 3 layers in the C5 ( If I recall u only did 1 layer in the C5)
I did 1 layer and a much thinner foam mat on top. You could use this same application in the C5 for sure.
6 hours ? 🤔
Removal. Triming & install. Clean up. Panel reinstall. I'm sure if you do this everyday you could get it down to 3 or so.
