    We call Blue fish Tailor.
We love eating them, gut and cook whole, stuff with butter, salt pepper, tomato and onion. Squeeze lemon on to taste once cooked. 👍👍
Typically we get them 300mm (12 inches) but sometimes upto 500mm (19.5 inches) in our Estuary systems. They get to 1.2m (4 feet) out in the ocean.

hey man if you want some nice sized stripers check out the Roanoke river in plymouth north carolina. i grew up there and have caught an insane amount of stripers out of that river. the cool part is the river dumps into the albamarle sound and that dumps into the ocean. and if you want some big bass i suggest go trolling by the edenton bridge in the albemarle sound

If you are still in the VA/MD area and plan on hitting the eastern shore, Tuckahoe State Park is about 30min east of the bay bridge. Nice campground and a small lake with extensive creek system. There are a few big bass (4lb my best there but heard about a 7lb) but the quantity is always good. I started fishing it in a canoe then a jon boat. Work up the creek, enjoy shore lunch and then drift back to the launch. Pads and weeds and wood. Chain Pickerel are common and my personal best came out of Tuckahoe.
Never looked into the inshore options available for eastern shore of MD/VA but Tuckahoe may be well suited as a base to check them out.

Well... I am glad I found this video! Just moved into the area and thinking about putting in at the same inlet tomorrow in my Yak. You guys put in next to the Virginia Beach Aquarium right?
Tried out a small area in/near Lynnhaven inlet on Friday for a few hours after work until chased off the water by a storm.
    This looks promising!
I have only caught a few small blues from the beach a few years ago... and never a striper.

The size of those little ones or preferably smaller are fine to eat. But my suggested recipe isnt smoking em. Foil boat on the grill with a drizzle of olive oil and water, let the fillet cook half through and then pour a few shots of whiskey on em and a very thin layer of buffalo sauce. Used to toss em all back now I'll keep any under 4-5lbs. Obviously bleed immediately and cut out bloodlines before cooking.

@@YakFishField been binge watching your videos lately. Awesome to get a reply. Your vids are amazing. You threw back a lot of good stripers in this vid and/or a few others. The small ones (28-34in) are pretty well equivalent to grouper. Just did blackened striper sandwiches with chipotle mayo yesterday. Absolutely amazing.

Robert Field yessir, cut 1lbs of filet into approx. 1 inch cubes, toss in a bowl. Mix in ~2 tbsp soy sauce, ~1 tsp toasted sesame oil, ~1 tsp gochujang (Korean fermented red pepper paste), 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds, ~1/4 cup finely sliced green onion. Obviously you can adjust the measurements to taste. Or use whatever fish you want. But it's a good way to use bluefish, at least to me.

If you get them on ice fast it helps a lot. I like to smoke blue fish or make fish cakes with them. If you sprinkle the fillets with lemon juice and wait for the flesh turn whitish they taste less fishy.

Have always eaten Blues. Smaller are better, as with any highly predatory fish, less likely to be accumulated environmental toxins. This is why many states have no minimum size requirements and encourage anglers to keep and eat smaller Blues. Bleed them first by snipping area below gills. Baked fillets with butter, lemon juice and Old Bay seasoning is great!

I saw a guy reach into a Blue's mouth for the hook one time and it pealed his thumb like a banana, that's why I use a 9 inch steel leader before my hook.....
When the blues are feeding on a school of pogies (manhadin) the big strippers will sit on the bottom under the school of feeding blues and catch the pieces that drop down to the bottom.
Many times while snagging pogies for bait I've pulled in half a pogie......

Too bad you didn't keep any of the bluefish. Seasoned or breaded and baked in an oven, they turn out quite tasty. I've had them many times.

Small Blues make good shark bait but I didn’t like blue fish either. This area is fantastic for fishing tho. Love me some Virginia beach lol

Yeah man our original plan was to fish the CBBT but the wind would’ve made it dangerous. Plan B worked out pretty well!

Robert Field me and a friend made the mistake of going out three miles on the cbbt in kayaks...... never again we weren’t prepared and the current and wind fought us two and a half hours of constant paddle to land
