- The cargo ship The Dali collided with the Baltimore bridge, causing it to collapse into the sea. Now the entire port serving Maryland will be impacted for a year at least. But why did this occur, and why are social media users jumping to such brash conclusions.

@@JustMe-vz3wd Why is Israel an 'of course' and Ukraine a 'whyyy'?
From a purely pragmatic point of view our historic support for Israel has been a negative for every other country in the region for generations. Those other countries have vast resources we would love to have reliable and inexpensive access to. Thinking only in 'America First' support for Israel has not been in our interests.
Ukraine is fighting against a historical geopolitical rival who has opposed the West pretty consistently since long before any of us were born. Good point. Unfortunately, it can still pass as a terror attack. The worst kinds are the ones the seem the most gentle. A last second turn into a bridge that has no fender protection in one of the busiest cities in America. Hmmm. For it to lose power at that split second heading towards not away from....hmmm. Actuaries, what are the odds?
Most bridges don't have fender protection for boats this size, largely because it would cost billions and do nothing. The busier a port is, the more traffic and therefore, the more likely for accidents to happen there.
To lose power at the split second that is several minutes before it crashes and just after it departed isn't really a coincidence. The most likely time for a ship to spot mechanical issues is just after it's left, generally speaking.
If you look for patterns where they don't exist then things always seem suspicious. But look at it the other way. If this was terrorism, they chose a time where the bridge was fairly quiet and they did it in a way that would be easy to prove. If they did intentionally cut their own power and steer into the bridge, this would be a very easy to prove thing from investigating what happened on the ship at that time.
Theoretically it could be either, but if you aren't looking for a specific answer, Occam's razor says that an accident is far more likely.

Somebody else higher up in the comments said that under engine power the ship moves slightly leftward, so in order to go straight the rudder compensated by being angled to the right; so if the engines then lose power the rudder angled right sends it to the right.
Since covid things like this have been happening a _lot._ From food packaging plants going up in flames for "no known reason", trains derailing causing massive problems that the government tries to cover up, and now a major shipping hub is disabled.
Recently, a train derailed RIGHT in front of my house. Since then, there have been workers early in the morning to late in the afternoon, loudly working on the railroad constantly. For miles, all over the town. Apparently, they're doing repairs that were due years ago, but for one reason or another didn't get done. I guess someone started caring again when it actually derailed a train. Took em forever to clean up all the debris and shit when it happened too.
Don't forget the planes that are having issues constantly suddenly. It is an intentional collapse of complex transportation structures.
I'm sure it has nothing to do with the medical intervention that everyone received.

The food processing plants going up in flames goes back to the 2010s. Under Nobama.
The feds are now investigating? Great, now we will NEVER know.
My 2 cents, the company that owns/operates the ship skimped on maintenance and what we saw was the result. The ship DIDN’T turn into the bridge, it was pushed by the wind and the current/tide. It wasn’t terrorism, it wasn’t a cyberattack, hell I’d go as far to even say it wasn’t intentional as the captain made a radio call for the bridge to be cleared before they hit it. Now as the master of the ship, he’s gonna have to shoulder some responsibility, but how much depends on what the companies “policies” are in terms of ship maintenance and crew safety, and I don’t just mean what’s written down.

The ship turned because when power was restored, they put the ship in full reverse and dropped a port side anchor. When you reverse in this kind of situation where the ship is already moving in a forward direction, the direction of the ship can be very difficult to control.
What caused the power to go off in the first place?
Or the complete opposite
Why would you drop the anchor on one side only? A 6 y/o boy can figure out that this won't work..
Damn, we got all sorts of experts in the comment section. Truly a blessing.
Yeah full reverse you have no control they they don't have flanking rudders.. Bow thrusters were probably inoperable due to power loss.. staying ahead and maintaining bare steerage might have been the better choice, but full reverse holds up better in court.. tough choice
That “thick smoke” is what you would expect to see when they go wide open throttle…

When the ship regained power from the backup generator, it was thrown into reverse which caused the ship to steer starboard without maneuvering the rudder. It is very common on all vessels!

If this was an attack why didn't they wait until rush hour or stage cars to block one side and cause a traffic jam?
This ship also crashed on the other side of the world, looks like a shitty ship, crewed by a shitty crew.
Sure, blue no matter who huh...
Because it could have been meant to be a financial attack seen as this is the biggest port on the East coastt handles specialized Equipment. It's also a high traffic port. There doesn't always have to be a loss of life.
to block the rest of the ships in the harbor and prevent them from leaving
Because I think they have learned that the more lives lost equals more of a demand for a thorough investigation from the public. They need a few people but not too many.
@habibifather7681 The port in Jersey is the busiest on the east coast.
He puts the PETE in IncomPETEnt
And prices will go up more, and they will blame new price hikes on this to finish us off
Definitely was a practice run for something else more devastating. Imagine this happening in every port city by Chinese ships.
Imagination is not a good basis for assessing risk. Definitely nothing, you just assume the outcome that fits your own preconceived beliefs and then the evidence magically fits that.
There is nothing in this accident that is not explainable by cheap operation of ships and poorly-trained crew.
Such a wild story. I hope the survivors are okay.
They aren't. There were people on the bridge doing maintence on a scaffold system. THat means they had a harness strapped to the scaffold...
@@gb342002 that's absolutely terrible. My goodness...
Pure tragedy. So sad.
And I saw the video, there were a few vehicles on the bridge- they went into the drink. With the lights on... There were people in those vehicles. Rescue divers were scrambled immediately, but still, this doesn't look good at all.
@@N0sf3r4tuR1s3n6 missing at the moment. Not sure about bodies found, just know 6 are unaccounted for.

I am so sorry for the people of Maryland and everyone effected by this 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I can only imagine how bad the traffic has become in that general area.
I didn’t even need a second to realise those sparks were the power lines. Some people
O boy the totally competent, not corrupt at all alphabet agencies are on the case! I'm sure we'll get nothing but the most transparent and concise totally believable explanation of how this could of happened.
Accidents happen. That’s reality.
@@GiraffeBloodit wasn’t an accident.
Didn't someone in the Ukraine cabinet say this happened because we wouldn't make up our minds fast enough? And if they didn't get their money, mote to come in Europe?
I love how nothing can ever just be a freak accident anymore. There’s always a grander scheme behind EVERY SINGLE THING. It’s so annoying.
The extreme and paranoid view is so much more interesting…
It's not a conspiracy theory that poor regulations, corporate bailouts, and cutting corners with safety measures will inevitably lead to an accident
Got to keep the people entertained... right?!?!?!?!
I'm glad the media has made sure not to let the Ukrainian boat captain speak. That would just lead to too much freedom of information.
yeah, there are a LOT of stupid people out there, and a LOT of them think a 1000' container ship is just going to come to a dead stop in just a few feet.
Really entertaining to listen to people who have never spent a day aboard a ship become experts as to what happened. Ultimately, the ships captain is responsible and the shipping company and its insurers should foot the bill, not taxpayers.
🤫 shhhs.. the Facebook and twitter degree-carrying experts are talking. Just like the mini-sub, they only appear with their knowledge when accidents occur, usually, they’re just pretending to be gas station clerks and Taco Bell employees. In fact, they are all world-class engineers and scientists.
The "explosions" on the cables looked to be electrical arc blasts. A bridge would be the perfect kind of infrastructure to run power lines through
2024 is even crazier than 2020
It's just getting started
And March isn't even over yet 😳
2024 has just gotten started.
I don't think so ,at least not yet , but it could get that way ,but without Covid it will be harder .
End.
Looks like they tried to use an emergency steering system with the thick black smoke but they will definitely rebuild the new bridge in honor of George Floyd the governor seemed very excited during his interview
Can you imagine Baltimore trying to rebuild that bridge now. It will take 4x as long, the cost will blow out 100x and the bridge will be worse then the one the men in 1972 built.
Yeah it would not surprise me in the least if they take the opportunity to erase yet more of our history.
@@RichSmithson and all the debris in the water now
@@RichSmithsonyeah took my city here 4 years to expand part of the bridge but took 3 months to build a casino 😅
Fo sho dawg
New fear unlocked….driving on bridges.
Don't travel at all is the play.Trains, planes n boats all unsafe so stay in your upcoming 15 minute city.
3:42 as a Baltimorean and one who has driven over this bridge countless times I think this makes more sense.
CNN: mostly every other bridges not hit by every other ships, most of the time, unless Trump is driving it.
why the HELL was such a HUGE ship not under tug tow until out of the bay? this should be standard bloody procedure. this was a accident waiting to happen through sheer idiotic incompetence of the port authority not doing what it SHOULD be doing. NO large ship should be self guided within a bay with bridges.
Woah woah woah. Throttle back, Captain. Look...... This was just like the evergrande shipper. Remember? That was the start of the shipping stoppage that lasted almost 2 years.
Simply put, this is the damned lizard people that want us all in 15 minute cities and having our organs forcibly "donated" for "the greater good".
Its like pasta. Same shit, different shape.
There is a HUGE reason why large vessels are piloted in and out of ports with "gasp" Harbor Pilots. The job of a harbor pilot is one who specifically knows the channel regardless of if the channel markers are visible or not, knows the depths of the area, and any other pertinent information regarding the waters of the any major port area. Pipe down Liberace with the sensationalism.
@@garthhancock3373 multiple media reports include that there were two pilots on the bridge with the crew.
tugs should have been involved until past all bridges.
@@John-gm8ty Pilots are experts at navigating the channels in the port and were aboard. Equipment failure resulted in an accident. Going forward I can see changing things to prevent this, but at the time there was no need.
@@DustonDiekmann in recent new reports, the ship WAS under tug guidance, which shows some SERIOUS new safety changed need to be made to stop this from happening again.
your argument that it "wasn't needed until now" is absolutely absurd because this PROVES it WAS needed.
Par for the course. The heroes for hire will investigate nothing, that we can be sure of.
On purpose. Clear and simple.
Of all the countries America gives funding to, who will come help us out with this situation? Anyone?
The ship is left handed. That means under power she pulls to the left. This means you need a slight right rudder to go straight. This also means that if you lose power she will drift to the right.
They also tried to back down the ship to stop forward progress, which can cause the ship to careen right.
I never expected big ships to have asymmetrical thrust that needed rudder to counter and in case of power failure it would for a turn to the opposite side 😯
You'd think the captain manning it would know this.
When a single screw boat is moving forward it's easily controlled by the water going over the rudder and especially the water thrust on the rudder from the prop. When a boat that's moving forward is put in reverse you start having less control due to less water traveling past the rudder and especially the lack of prop wash on the rudder. As the boat slows there is also a condition that starts taking effect that's called prop walk that will cause the stern of a single screw boat to move to port. This could explain why this ship seemed to steer to starboard and seem to aim for the bridge support. Google Prop Walk for a better explanation
Prop walk would explain why the ship veered to starboard. Check prop walk explained
It has been suggested that they panicked and dropped anchor which caused the ship to change course.
my first thought was another shipping company cutting corners and costs to dangerous levels.
Biden is the last person that should be talking about this shit. His mush-brain is a security risk to our nation.
I don't know how but I am genuinely surprised that they turned this into "Bridges are racist." The world makes less and less sense the more it becomes consistent.
Because it was the first time a black female was captaining a ship that size into the port.
There was going to be a ceremony to honor her in the morning.
They've had to sweep it under the rug.
@@DanielVita The ship was leaving the port though....
I've been saying since this happened that some was gonna say something no one wanted to say. Kind of like Harry Potter. The thing that shall not be said. - JB and KH That ship just happens to hit the most important bridge in Baltimore. 🤨
Thank you. Spot ON. I completely agree!
