It was rather fitting that not just anyone but ‘A Phantom’ be the one to kick the 25th off with a bang really…I think that’s why they got Earl to do it…they really tried to cram in as many Phantoms as they could for the Anniversary.
This overture was the reason why I got addicted to Phantom of the from the moment I heard it and saw the chandelier rising on Broadway. I will never forget that memory
Overture is always the scene I could watch over and over! The power of the music with the change of the scene around the stage really does feel like I am being transported every time! Absolutely love it!! Phantom will always be my favorite musical!
All the hangings and backdrops moving around under that music. And the proscenium being unwrapped under that dig, over done overture. And you know you are in for a great ride.
I love they had Earl play the auctioneer, ❤ they could have gotten anybody but they really tried to get as many Phantoms as they could for the Anniversary. Ramin of course, then Earl, later on they had John, Colm, Anthony, Peter and then the OG himself Michael…all made an appearance, the 25th really was a perfect love letter to Phantom.
One thing I find kinda funny here is that Raoul looks so old. Judging by the year they give us, he should only be around his late 40s - early 50s, but man, does he look BEAT.
It’s very much implied that Christine is dead and that’s why he’s come back to the Opera which is the place where it all began (where he met her again) so yeah he looks rough because he’s grieving. Of course if you factor in Love Never Dies then yeah you have even more of an explanation as to why he’s in such a bad state (just ignore that the dates don’t exactly line up LoL)
@@sunflower-xi5ct I don’t consider LND as canon, but yeah, it looks like Christine’s (unfortunately very early-wtf ALW) death really hit him hard :/ poor guy
According to the timespan, the musical takes place 1880-1881 and this is after the WW1 in 1919, so its 40 years after. Strange things is the sequel on Coney Island "Love Never Dies" takes place in 1909 and the child of phantom and Christine is 10 years where he should be about 30...the timeline is alternativ 😂
I remember crying when I went to watch my first Phantom production earlier this year at His Majesty's Theatre just from pure excitement and emotion. My smile grew immensely when the chandelier came to life it was so invigorating, the tears just kept coming.
Even if the full show is no longer here, we can compile all of these videos into a playlist and it’s already 70% of the show including the curtain call performance
I first encountered this musical through its big-screen adaptation in 2004, when I was 13. Erik's story gave me a great deal of comfort, during that difficult period in my life. In the twenty years since then, I've listened to it countless times. When the overture's first note plays, I feel like I have to take a sharp, deep breath in, like I've just been punched hard in the center of my chest. EVERY SINGLE TIME. That's the power of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. (5/25/2024)
My dad has the Highlights of the Phantom of the Opera CD featuring the original London cast of the show, with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. I didn't see the show in person until 2018 when they showed it at the Straz Center in Tampa. I learned that the Royal Albert Hall has an enormous pipe organ. We don't see it during the show because the screen is covering it. But I think they used that very organ to play the iconic Overture piece. I'm also glad that they decided to roll the opening credits during the Overture.
I love this production. But absolutely nothing compares to being in a theatre and that chandelier lifts up of the stage and you are close enough to touch it.
Why do I have a memory of the chandelier being lower and hoisted up during this in the production? So good and great music to set the emotions of what is to come.
Michael Crawford told the story of when Phantom came to New York in the late 80's. He is singing and this woman in the front row is talking on some sort of device. He said she could hear her in a very strong Bronx accent "Oh my God, he is right in front of me, he is so gorgeous." Then she held up the device to let her friend hear Crawford sing. Turns out it was a Motorola Dyna-Tac Cell phone, you know one of those big white Bricks.
The original novel was based on a true event In the real story a weight had fallen down on someone during a showing at the Opera French author Gaston Leroux wrote his book and changed the weight to a chandelier The cause of the chandelier crashing down was the Opera Ghost or the Phantom of the Opera The rest was about the events that led to the moment The book was titled La Fantôme de l’Opera or English Phantom of the Opera Many screen adaptations were made including movies and miniseries Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber made it into a musical which became the sensation that it is today
@@noseofsauron236 Totally get that, and with the filmed performance lighting and everything else had to be redone from the original format. One of the best overtures ever! Sheer power of music and the moment that Earl Carpenter begins it all with a wonderful projected "Gentlemen".
