I remember that when Burroughs and Chapin were wanting to take down the Pavilion they promised some attractions that would be year round. The Pavilion was only open 4 months out of the year and the idea of a year round attraction sounded good to many of us. Sadly B&C lied and the Pavilion and Myrtle Square Mall sites are just empty lots. B&C and the cronies on city council are truly the ones that turned a vibrant beach into an over priced slum.

My family had a place in South Myrtle from 1978-90. My best memories were there riding up and down the road at night and the Magic Attic. Since, they tore Pavilion down my family hasn't been back nor will we ever go back!! I would rather go somewhere else or just stay home where it's safer. Such a Shame!!
This was filmed the year I was born, its nice to see what it looked back then. Been going since I was a kid and a lot of it is fuzzy. So to see it all again was really cool. I can't imagine how many 100's of dollars I spent in that arcade.
Think about all the generations who will never get to experience it at it's old spot, especially those born after 2004 or so. At least you got to experience it. Only some of the flat rides and carousel survive at Broadway at the Beach.
I only went once before it closed, but i remember my mom and my uncle used to talk about summers in Myrtle Beach and visiting places like this and the Gay Dolphin. My only memory of the Pavilion though is my grandma got thrown up on while riding the Rainbow.

No, it was because the owners of Pavilion made a business decision to close the old park because it lost profit after the fenced the park in and started charging admission in 2000. They had expanded the park to twice the size by removing a road behind the log flume. There is a postcard online showing the size of the park in the 80's and 90's when the Corkscrew coaster was there. There is a an aerial view of the park after expansion and a pic of a park map from a brochure or something on the net as well, if you search Google images.
But, they saved some of the flat rides and carousel and moved them to Broadway at the Beach. And Family Kingdom park is still there with one of the few wood coasters along the Atlantic coast. But they destroyed the Haunted Hotel ride and building in March 2007 after the park closed. It was built by the defunct Funni-Frite of Ohio (which was sold at auction in 2000) in 1978 as Haunted Inn and renovated into Haunted Hotel in 1992 by Leonard Pickel who owns Hauntrepreneurs a company that builds haunted attractions and props were added by Sally Corp. a few years later. Pickel had a walk-through haunted house in the 90's called Mayhem Manor right next to the Pavilion on the side of the street where the Ripley's Believe It or Not! is. There are a couple other haunted houses on the strip, like Ripley's Haunted Adventure and Nightmare Haunted House. You walk through those.

I was just a freshman in college. Man, it is great to see that period in time. I went to Myrtle Beach that year in July.
