    I had a XPS 13 but turns out the XPS 15 is the sweet spot for me and the 3.5k OLED is to die for, more so than the 4k... The deeper blacks and colours just pop. Discrete graphics is also a big plus.

    Nice review sir! I am looking forward to buy this laptops. My concerns is on the battery life. On your review on battery life, is 9 hours under ultra performance or optimised performance? I do fine with those new design touch bar and Iris graphic since my daily usage doesn't touch that much. May I ask your negative feedbacks on this new XPS Plus?

    • @MashITTech

      My main negative so far is the Touch Bar but I also hated it on the MacBooks. It is only a minor annoyance though and I soon get used to it. The only other bug for me is the lack of ports as I use my laptops a lot on customer sites, but if I just used ti around the house it would not be an issue

    So I’m in between this and the new M2 Air. I’ve never owned a Mac, I’ve used iPhones and iPads for years but always windows computers.
    In Canada, it costs about the same to get 512/16 Xps 13 plus as a same spec m2 air. I don’t do a whole lot on them, but I want a more spec out model to hold onto for years. Having a hell of a time deciding
    Ultra portable is definitely a big priority for me as I travel for work

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  2 роки тому +1

      In all honesty if you don’t need specific windows software I would get the air. Not only is the battery life insanely good and much better than windows but it also has amazing performance without even using a fan! The m2 has been a bit of a disappointment though as it’s not much better than an m1 air so I would consider getting the older m1 air at a much cheaper price unless you really want the newly designed chassis

      @@MashITTech if I’m going to spend a couple grand (Canadian dollars) I rather get the nicer design. Especially if I’m trying to hold onto this for atleast 5 years or more. @@angelofigueira7841 I’ve had windows for many years, it’s definitely not as quick and fluid as these new M series macs. I tried 3 different windows laptops as I was quite reluctant to move to Mac OS but I’m glad I tried it. Plus if you have an iPhone, it syncs very well together and really helps make the experience more enjoyable
      Got nothing against those who choose windows and nothing against windows itself. My wife uses a Razer Blade 15 laptop and would never trade it for a mac lol. She’s still reluctant to move over to mac but hates the fact she can’t use her laptop unplugged for more then a couple hours either

    FANTASTIC design choices with the keyboard, invisible touchpad and the overall professional and elegant look! But unfortunately high price for the features as in all the XPS line and also the lack of AMD 6800u option are the downsides of it (given how good the iGPU on AMD new processors are, I consider them a much better choice in the laptops without a dedicated gpu even at the cost of some cpu performance).

    I have a MacBook Pro 14 M1 which I love but ever since I bought this XPS 13 Plus I find I'm using it much more. This is one sweet machine. The keyboard feels great. I have the i7 1260P processor along with 512GB SSD and 16GB RAM with OLED 3.5K screen. The display is breathtaking. This is a great portable laptop. GREAT JOB Dell!!! By the way, I bought the
    Satechi 4 port usb-c hub to go with this so no biggie that there are only 2 usb-c thunderbolt 4 ports....and I've found that the Apple headphone 3.5mm dongle works with this! I would highly recommend this machine. The performance of the processor is so quick. I love how "snappy" it is. This is fast. I do wonder how good these new ARC graphics are, given that marketing is one thing but to get them to work, and work within the constraints of the power limitations of a device like this, is another thing. I assume the delay means that everything is not as smooth as Intel want it. But better to take their time and get it right than a dumpster storm. I wonder if Dell will write off the ARC in their XPS 13 line this cycle? So 13th gen will be the next stop. I suspect there will be a lot of unhappy Dell owners if there is a mid-cycle refresh with ARC graphics?
    Not sold on the XPS 13 Plus, looks like they just pushed too much to the outer limits. But they are trying and they covered themselves by keeping the older XPS 13 design in the mix for the 12th gen. I think I would still choose the older design and save some money to boot.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 2 роки тому

      The Air is retina so at normal viewing distance with 20:20 vision pixels are not noticeable. So you must be very susceptible to DPI or use apps that are better with 4K (office stuff). I think for most people retina is enough and of course, it is clearly the better optimised choice as 4K kills battery by about 33% which can be a deal breaker.

    • @daniel_960_
      @daniel_960_ 2 роки тому

      @@andyH_England retina only means you can't see individual pixels. Not that there's no noticeable sharpness difference with higher resolutions.
      iPhone 11 with a ~720p screen is Retina. No comparison to the ~1440p pro iPhones though, they look a lot sharper.
      Yeah no question 1440p is enough on the air for most people. But was really surprised how noticeably less sharp it looks compared to 4k. Wouldn't like to use it. Also might results in everything needing to be larger. More stuff fits on 4k without looking too pixely. Though I use 200% scaling which should be the native 1080p scale.
      Yeah I use it mostly for Web, PDFs and office.
      Couldn't imagine viewing formulas and handwriting on 1080p in PDFs.
      But also makes a big difference for viewing videos and photos. Especially the preview in folders

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 2 роки тому

      @@daniel_960_ Yes, I am not gonna argue 4K is better as it obviously is, but for the average consumer it is moot, but some people will indeed notice especially in certain workloads. But I switch between 4K and 2.5-2.8K regular and it is not that noticeable for me, though 1080p is def too low in 2022 especially on OLED.

      See this. Even in optimsed mode from dell power management app . first it will consume 40 to 50 watt for 5 to 10 second as it is a 28watt tdp cpu. It comes down to 23 to 28 watt and still gives 9k scores

  • @123Suryasis
    @123Suryasis 2 роки тому +4

    With the current power consumption level of 12th gen Intel, it's difficult to put more powerful graphics in it, because they have to go beyond 96 EU and will either increase the power consumption and cause power limit throttling, especially in these slimmer laptops. Even in the super efficient Ryzen 6000 series, the RDNA 3 Based graphics actually can take a lot more power than the previous Vega to utilise it's full potential. In igpu only mode, a lot of people tested the TUF a15 2022. Model and set the TDP to 80W. In demanding games, rx 680M was pulling around 40W to maintain its maximum clockspeed. AMD was still able to put it in U series because the cpu itself consumes lesser power and can dedicate a big chunk to of the available power to the iGPU, without needing crazy amount of power.

    I'm currently using an M1 MacBook Air and a two year old XPS13 (plus my main pc for video editing etc).
    I've been delighted with the XPS 13. I love the form factor, light weight and low noise. The M1 is more powerful, but I still use the XPS 13 due to its 4k resolution. I am slightly tempted to sell it to fund/justify a new gaming laptop, but it's still fantastic for my website work so I may end up keeping it longer.

      @@JokobZuma yeah it's great man, but once you use it on gaming, I notice the battery isn't as great anymore. Maybe give it a couple days rest and it might be fine again. You have to maintain it in order to get up to 5hours streaming. Not sure on other tasks tho, also it only has 60hz if you want more you can definitely look for another laptop or something
