- Die 1910 beschaffte Dampfschneeschleuder Xrot 9213 ist auch heute noch betriebsfähig. Sie ist die letzte einsatzbereite Dampfschneeschleuder in Europa. Die alte Maschine dient der Rhätischen Bahn immer noch als Notreserve. Manchmal wird sie aber auch einfach zur Begeisterung von Eisenbahnfreunden angeheizt. So auch am 1. März 2009 anläßlich der Veranstaltung "Schnee und Eis" auf dem Berninapass von Pontresina nach Bernina Ospizio. Leider war das Wetter nicht so schön. Trotzdem war es eine eindrucksvolle Demonstration. Dank an die RhB und den Veranstalter für die hervorragende Organisation!

@thomasking55 Well, If you noticed the date on the piece of equipment is 1910. Its in the caption. That snow blower was constructed well before diesel engines were even being conceived of, let alone built. It also looks like it is being treated as a heritage piece for the RhB railroad. Just do a search on Google for the xrot 9213. There is a historical article about the blower.

There's something about steam power and snow. The two were made for each other.
@praingmantis (first of all remeber that its a steam train) if ya look at 5:00, the moving parts inside the side door thing is the cylinder (tho you can only see the conecting rods and flywheel) thats powering the plow. Underneath it are the cylinders that power the wheels (obviously not moving) They would most probably share the same boiler too.

@praingmantis yeah exactly. I assume because if theres an excessive amount of snow, you can travel slower and have the plow still running at full speed. More control basically.

but i´m sure about that it´s mounted to the engine, so the engine will loose some power to the plow

If rotaries are so high maintenance , why are they still in use everywhere but the US? Must be a liability thing.

its not worth running a rotary, if a plow and spreader will take care of it

@thomasking55 Why not if she still works (which obviously she does). I suspect to replace this piece of kit would be expensive. Anyway steam is more fun - unless you are the guy firing it!
