SUCH an improvement to the last gen. I recently drove the new HRV, and can gladly say that the new Honda's are worlds better. I really look forward to the new Pilot, assuming they stick with the v6!
Great Review Charlie. I appreciate your perspective on this vehicle. It is missing features on the Sport Touring for that price. Oh well. All these vehicle have some or multiple shortcomings.
Thanks, and I agree. Although only big one to me is the 360 camera. It would be a tough call for me between this or CX-5. I'd probably pick CX-5 S Select for $30k.
My mother and I bought a 2023 Honda CR-V Sport Hybrid at Hughes Honda in Warner Robins, GA on 5/26/2023. We traded in her 2012 Ford Fusion SE for it because it was having some issues with the transmission, and something was wrong under the car. I absolutely love the car. It's much more reliable and better than a Ford. The color is called Canyon River Blue Metallic with black cloth interior. The Ford Fusion was a nice car but I got so sick and dang tired of hearing the mykey dinger go off when the speed was at 80 mph. The engine in the CR-V is a 2.0L I-4 + electric motor with 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. Transmission is CVT. (continuously variable transmission) Fuel economy is 40 MPG in the city and 36 mpg on highway. I was worried that she was going to be stranded.
Is this sound system notably better than the one you tested in the 2023 CR-V EX-L? I am deciding if it is worth the upgrade from the Sport Hybrid (6-Speaker, 240-Watt Audio System) to the Sport-L Hybrid (8-Speaker, 320-Watt Audio System) or the Sport Touring Hybrid (Bose Premium Sound System). It's $6,150 more for the Sport Touring vs the Sport. The audio is an important factor in the decision. I know you also get the AWD the hand free liftgate and the acoustic glass with the Sport Touring vs the Sport-L.
No pano roof is a plus for me...extra weight and more chance to break. I never look at my rear turn signals when I am driviing, so who cares if LED? I agree it should be, but not a deciding issue 😊
Charlie, I am looking forward to your full testing when you get this back to Daily Motor World Headquarters. Since we will be seeing these everywhere, I really appreciate the restrained styling as well as the rationally generous interior proportions but the placement of the hybrid battery and weak tow rating are somewhat confounding in a family focused CUV. Let's see if the CR-V hybrid matches the arch rival RAV4 in mpg. BTW I welcome the full editorial disclosure of the swag . In future you might want to list accommodations provided as well as full menu listings of the free food and beverage you guys receive at these events. 😉
It won't beat the Rav4, it's efficiency is only in city. It loses a lot from highway driving. You might be able to match it with the FWD but you would really have to go out of your way to achieve those numbers.
The reason for the one map pocket on the passengers seat is for the driver to have easy access to a map in it if he needs it. How would he ever reach behind his seat to get one.
What was your real world mpg numbers? My friend has a 22 rav4 and he gets better mpg than advertised by Toyota on a daily basis. Hope the same is true with this CRV.
@@joshgutierrez7380 I feel Honda is less conservative. Years ago there was a huge lawsuit on Honda about this topic. My buddy in heavy traffic gets 54 mpg on his 21 mile commute to work. Level ground no hills. That’s phenomenal and I doubt the CRV can beat this.
@@Tacoexplorer just keep it in ev mode as much as you can and you’re good lol it’s really not that hard. Hondas system is actually much more efficient than Toyotas system, especially in the city and regular roads. The way their system works is that if you’re going less than highways speeds, the electric motor is the only thing driving the wheels. So if you are easy on the gas the engine is mainly idling the entire time it’s running. Once you’re above 60 or 65, a clutch engages that allows the engine and electric motor to drive the wheels. So it is by far, more efficient
Can you tell when the engine is engaged as part of the drivetrain and pushing the wheels as in Parallel Hybrid mode vs when it is only running and generating electricity in Serial Hybrid mode? Is the change over smooth or is it noticeable?
The difference between EX and EX-L all-wheel drive is $4,150 while the difference between Sport and Sport Touring is $6,150. The features that are only in Sport Touring that I have found are: - Larger 19" wheels - I actually prefer the cushier ride of 18" wheels so I would not pay extra to have them. - Acoustic windshield and acoustic front glasses - I will pay $1,000 to have them - Different front end design - I would demand $500 discount for them Unless I missed something, $2,000 is too much to have those extra 'features' on Sport Touring.
I found out that there is another big difference. Sport Touring has Bose audio, and I would pay $800 to have it if it was a separate option. The $6,150 difference between Sport and Sport Touring is justified for people that prefer larger wheels. It could be really nice if only it had ventilated front seats as leather seats without ventilation are horrible in Arizona.
I’m sorry you didn’t really hammer home if this one is significantly improved in the responsiveness department. Can any one chime in who has experience? I’m hoping this hybrid feels a little more like a rav 4 off the line. I do not like the gas cr-v, it feels slow unless you really hammer the pedal.
The hybrid helps, but they didn't tune it to be as jumpy as the RAV4. A lot of that is just how a manufacturer decides to tune the throttle. If you put the CR-V in sport mode, it'll feel snappier, especially with the hybrid help.
no fog lights and the bose system is only on the top level sport touring. Not a big deal but you should not have to spend 40,000.00 for a bose system. and the standard sound system for honda is not good
I grew up in Santa Barbara and have driven all those roads countless times. Credit the incompetent CalTrans morons for taking days to do a job that should take a few hours. That’s the cause of the stop and go - CalTrans stupidity. And further south they are taking nine YEARS to add one lane northbound and one lane southbound on HWY 101 for 10 miles. OK rant off. Seems like a nice vehicle though I don’t like the fact that the CRV does not have a spare tire.
It’s a small engine and over the years you have to spend 3 to 5 k to replace the battery. I have a 22 4 runner trd the beast will last forever don’t need a mommy’s car.
Love your detailed review. Appreciate all the details in different lighting conditions

Yes, audio is a huge step up to get the Bose.
I like it, but oddly on the Honda website you can only build the gas EX and EX-L. I prefer hybrid, black wheels, and 9" screen.
You can pre order it at your local Honda dealership!
Edit: the Sport Hybrid and Sport Hybrid Touring is available on Hondas website now.
They added the hybrids on the website
Nice but wish it had ventilated seats, larger infotainment screen, panoramic roof, and heads up display.
no foglights, no pano roof option, no more LED rear turn signals.... Honda cashing in on the name while stripping out key items

Between the B and C-pillar, it looks like a VW Tiguan.. Lol

What about passengers are that extra map for storage Honda keeps cutting basic features while increasing price
Does it have a spare tire? If so, where?

Honda always gets less than advertised
So what kind of miles per gallon? Did you get during your drive?
Local dealers are charging $45K for a damn EX imagine the top trim, hell nah, looks great but not $45K+ great
No one should be paying 10g more 😢

Nope, never notice the switch. More refined than the Insight.
what about engine noise when engine start? similar to electric car?

Yup, had the same feeling from day1 .. well that explains the price increase 😆
Why honda won't launch such models in India and save itself from the verge of closing itself in the country
Rather be with a toyota Rav-4 always ahead of Honda and a much stronger vehicle that they stand behind better if asked My opinion

Yeah I don’t think the CR-V is meant to compete with a 4Runner. It also has an 8 year/100k mile warranty on the hybrid battery
He traded Chris for the car that’s crazy
