Being a Born & Bread North Carolinian and avid Sailer I kept my Cal 33 at a marina in Oriental which was know is the Sailing Capital of North Carolina. We would often make the journey up the Ditch from Oriental to Beaufort, NC, dropping a hook in the bay area which provided an easy dingy ride to the "Town Dock". Later move our Cal from Oriental to Lake Norman and from there to Southport. Oriental is an awesome location to spend time relaxing and enjoying the area along with the wide selection of restaurants that serve amazing dishes. I so enjoyed watching this segment because it brought back so many fond memories a one of my favorite NC Coastal towns. So enjoying following you guys!!!!1
I live in Greensboro North Carolina and always enjoy taking my trailer cruiser there and sail the sound or weekend down to Beaufort. Really nice people and laid back stress free environment. Everyone has to stop by and visit but don’t stay, it’s perfect as it is as a small community.
I have enjoyed your videos so much. I did this cruise 40 years ago on a 1950 Chris Craft 41 ft. This brought back so many memories We travelled with a cat Bosun, who had many adventures too. Hope you keep going! Good Luck, enjoy and keep posting.
Wow, the adventures of Bosun - sound like fun! 😄 That’s AMAZING that you did this 40 years ago… I wonder what has changed and if you have any special tips we’d love to hear them! Thanks Nancy!
Oriental is a great stop. We typically make one run a summer down there from here in Va Beach. When we were in Beaufort (pre covid) we scrounged a rental car and drove over to Harkers Island. Enjoyed it immensely. I am not a huge seafood guy, but have to admit Harkers Island had some of the best sesfood restaurants I have been to in quite awhile. Stay Safe & Be Safe.
Well long story short it was actually just always loose and finally came off - but we though that was just how it was designed since we have an old boat… We kept the pieces and then found a hardware store for a huge socket to match the nut, i think it was like 21 mm or something, and then just put it back together and tightened it! Simple fix for a big shock! We did write more about it on our blog, schoandjo.com if you’re so inclined!
Well since a few people we knew skipped it on the Loop and we had just learned about it in Beaufort (the day before), it was underrated for us! However now it is aptly highly rated in our books 😁

Don't tell everyone how nice Oriental was! It's a well kept secret! More boats than people!
It is such a cool place

Great recommendations! We’ll have to see how challenging it is to get to Harkers Island in the future, sounds like a treat!
How did you get your wheel back on in the fly bridge

Can’t I understand your description of Oriental as "underrated", since it’s called the sailing capital of North Carolina.
Well since a few people we knew skipped it on the Loop and we had just learned about it in Beaufort (the day before), it was underrated for us! However now it is aptly highly rated in our books 😁
Coffee shop has fastest internet in town. 5G
Nice! It's a great place to just hangout too
