Happy 2024, for you and your loved ones! And I would have guessed you took something more tastier then coffee. ;-) (Are there any good coffee shops in London?)
Good to see you moving again, crossing the channel to Ramsgate again will be like falling off a bike, you just need to get back on it again. If you want company let me know, I will meet you in Calais.
Henk-Jan, wishing you a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year in 2024, absent of any major maintenance issues on Lady Liselot. Happy sailing on the grand lady. Dan P.S. Nice to see in the comments section that the Dover Coast Guard is thinking about you. That’s comforting and a mark of professionalism and respect for the boating community.
Hey, Dan, Yes @andy_nye is the guy for DCG who kept an eye on me the moment I was in the Traffic Zone and made the Securité call. Via a 'relay' of a seagoing vessel he managed to keep updated, cause my VHF antenna was only 7.1m heigh and the distance to much to pick up the signal (in those moments it would be nice if the earth was flat). Happy 2024, for you and your loved ones!
Happy New Year and have a safe, relaxed and happy 2024! Great to see you and Lady Liselot happy and motoring along! Best wishes from a fan in Yorkshire, UK. 👍
Just joined your video series. Greetings from Victoria Canada! Our parents immigrated from the NL in the 50’s, so I’m loving hearing your expressions. I run a Carver 53, with dual screws. I see you only use 1 engine while underway, as that doesn’t really help me a lot with fuel economy (I normally cruise @ 9-11 kts), and you have to offset your rudders to compensate for it pushing you in a circular direction. So, can you help me understand why you enjoy 1 engine cruising? Bedankt!
Hey Robert, welcome to this channel. Many of my followers have family who come from The Netherlands, and like to see where they are from. So sit back and relax. Adding a 2nd engine cost 100% fuel burn (at least 10-15liter in a non-current water way @ € 1.85/liter as I write this) per hour extra, but only giving 25% more speed. So the calculation is simple. I only use two engines for maneuvering near bridges and in port. I run them separately to keep the running hours in balance. The compensation is only 2-3%.
Great answer. I burn about 37.5 L/hr both sides (Cummins 450s) when I run both. This summer I'll give it some thought ( I have pressurized shaft seals, so it may not work as well)
Well, as I said: only the ones who sail at sea or the ocean use knts. The rest of skippers who drive their boats on the rivers and canals of Europe, use km's.
Best wishes for you and Lady Liselot. Great to see you happy again, we will be following you through your travels. Going to Boot in Dusseldorf in January ?
Hi Henk-Jan, I have to correct your pronunciation; a yeti is thought to be a Himalayan mythical beast but a "Jetty" is where one might moor. "Jetty" is pronounced with the "j" sounding like there's a "dj" infront of the "etty" ie think of it as "djettie". I couldn't find the yeti pushing you off the mooring? Like your vlogs, keep cruising!
Allright, allright, I will try to keep all this in mind. Peoplle call me "Eightz-Djay", so djetty would be logic. Never thought about it, and there are not a lot of marine-pronunciation-courses (that I am aware of). BUT... since I have a lot of footage still not published, you will still hear me make these foreign accent pronunciation mistakes. Thank you for the info, Joseph.
Yes. People from Denmark brought me some sweets like my famous "mergpijp-cookies" and I really liked them. "Vacuum Cleaner" fits the shape for sure (At least when you are my age)
So happy to see you on the water safe n sound. Have a great 2024
Happy 2024, for you and your loved ones! And I would have guessed you took something more tastier then coffee. ;-) (Are there any good coffee shops in London?)
Bedankt
DANK JE WEL!!
Since I am ocean going Master Mariner I never knew that one. 😉
I also learned about knots only, but every (inland) barge skipper, 'road' sign and operator talks about km's.
Bedankt
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Good to see you moving again, crossing the channel to Ramsgate again will be like falling off a bike, you just need to get back on it again. If you want company let me know, I will meet you in Calais.
I agree about the ‘get back up again’. I said many times before “I will not go out again,” but I still do. It’s sadomasochism I think.

I agree Andy. Great to see you here. I guess it will take a while before I have the guts to visit Ramsgate or Dover again. ;-)

Happy 2024, for you and your loved ones!
Hi Henk Jan, well appreciatie sights! If I’m not wrong, it’s windward and leeward in.
Yeah, but my "maritime expressions in 4 languages" booklet did not mention windward or leeward sided of a canal.
Tholen is a great place. We were there just after you 😊. Great video, again!

Happy new year. 🎉 As far as speed value is concern Sailors always use Knots rather than kilometers. This is my kind suggestion. 🙏🙏
Well, as I said: only the ones who sail at sea or the ocean use knts. The rest of skippers who drive their boats on the rivers and canals of Europe, use km's.
O, back again!!! What a way to start the new year. Congratulations!
Whoop, Whoop
Happy New Year. Really nice to see you with a big smile on your face again.
I hope 2024 is good to you and look forward to seeing your videos.

Happy 2024, for you and your loved ones!
At 9:18 I can see the dessert that looks similar to the Swedish "vacuum cleaner" pastry. Nice!
I am from an age that I remember growing up with this real vacuum cleaner, So because of its shape I can image why it's called that way.
Happy new year, gain i think lol. Is this the first trip since the rebuilt motors were installed ? Frank from down under
Hey Frank. No this is footage of 2022 I never shared and fits the time schedule of the year ‘up here’.
Busy day on the canal's! nice to see your troubles are behind you . happy new year Henk-Jan
Yeah I am glad that I am able to pick my spots again.

happy new year.Leeward pronounced LOO ward in UK
Looward? Jeezzzz now it becomes difficult. Quay = Keey, Leeward = Looward, Jetty = Djettee.
But I think I can manage!
Gelukkig nieuwjaar!
Happy 2024, for you and your loved ones!
At 9:40 het mergpijpkje. Ik vraag me af hoe jij dat beschrijft.
Ik noem het gewoon "a mergpijp coockie". Je zult het in menige video tegenkomen.

I'm delighted to help a fellow Nederlander and mariner! cheers etc..@@LadyLiselot
Yes. People from Denmark brought me some sweets like my famous "mergpijp-cookies" and I really liked them. "Vacuum Cleaner" fits the shape for sure (At least when you are my age)
I do not know.
Exactly. ;-)
