Anvil 041: Kammerlader Stock Refurbishment
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- A century of intense recoil destroyed this stock. Conserve and refurbish was strongly called for, with this IV8888 beauty........
Remember, we are showing you what we do, not how to do it. If you do not possess the necessary skills to perform work at this level, do not attempt to replicate what you see here. If you're going to be dumb, you have to be TOUGH.

Watch the recoil impulse flow down the stock in the slo-mo at the end of part 2. The overkill of repair in this video will make more sense then.....
Makes complete sense to me!
better overkill than focusing on cosmetics and then having a shooter injury in the next few years
Mark and gang, if you recorded every minute of a project like this I promise most of us would watch the videos. I'm not a gunsmith but I've learned a lot just from watching you work.
I’d watch Mark make a sandwich
The technique he described on the white board is exactly the same as compression screw techniques used by orthopedic surgeons when fixating near-joint bone fractures . Many ankle fractures require compression screws .
Archimedes screw tip is priceless, I will use that soon!
I love your work and enjoy the reposts, but everytime I watch, I get a little stressed during the intro. On this video it's at .46. I see the Remington rolling block with the hammer cocked(and breech open). I'm freaking out, 'Don't leave the hammer cocked, compressing that 150 year old V spring!'. I know it was probably just set like that for the filming but I can't help but think about that poor V spring...
I love your great work and videos. Take Care, John
PS, My best white-face moment was when I was in the back and my buddy yells 'John, you got a visitor'. I holler 'come on back'! A fellow walks in while I'm 'widening' the rails on an older 1911 Gold cup. Frame in vise, spacers set and hammering the length of the rails (to tighten the slide fit). It was his 1911, that he had brought me for accurizing. I thought the poor guy was going to have a heart attack!
I highly doubt anyone in their right mind will have an issue with you putting a video together in that manner. Who cares if it's pieced together the knowledge and humor are worth 100x what might be missed from a "production" perspective.. this is Mark Novac not some lame Hollywood production.
I don't care how you film or present, just keep em coming. Greatest refurb, conservation, repair vids online. Brilliant work, great filming and a personality to boot. I'd like to thank you and the team, all the hard work shows.
Any chance of you re-uploading all older episodes in one big new archive playlist? Some are still on C&rsenal, some are just missing, and the playlist index is gone so it's hopeless to find old videos.
Oh Man, you really passed the "balls" test on this one! Couple of times, my heart was in my mouth ... but DAMN good job Sir! As you said "... so ends another beautiful day in paradise".
Always enjoy your work, thank you Mark. The new format sounds fascinating, I hope it works out
If you dont mind me asking, why did you chose to leave out an "I" from your first sentence, but use one in the second: pronoun quotas?
I use Acetone for clean up of fibre glass while still damp, though I would recommend that it is used Very Carefully & Sparingly, around any finish you may wish to protect, as it may remove various coatings.
Stitching videos together out of footage shot over several weeks is fine with me. I'd also be quite happy if you worked on more than one of gun in each video. Then in the next video the next bit of work on the same guns. A bit like an ongoing soap opera, but with guns as the main characters.
Not all in one day?!?
Your secret is out. You are NOT a robot.
Great videos boss. Love the info.
That stock has more holes than Swiss cheese.
love this video for real, great explanation. Keep it up man
hey mark i have a 1933 Springfield modle 1909 i believe. i would like to send it to you and have you fix it. the biggest problem it the stock is cracked and broken. its my great grand fathers passed down to me i dono how to contact you so please let me know !!! i would love to see a video on it if your interested.
You can find it on C&Rsenal's website. candrsenal.com/gunsmithing/
Also, do you mean the Springfield 1903? I can't find anything about a Springfield 1909.
@@nopinkeyfinger yes i did bolt action !! 30-06
Small-arms humane society , wonderful stuff ! Like your music too interesting channel .
That's alot of damage!
Truss head screws I think? Thanks for these videos, it's such a pleasure to watch a craftsman working & I find them oddly relaxing.
Mate love watching you work & explaining what you are doing. Do not care what you wear as long as you have clothes on. Take as many videos as it takes. Do not have yo apologise for what has to happen. Just happy to be able to watch.
10 months and no one mentions the casual hotchkiss machine gun
lol the state of that stock!
I feel most would look at that, shake their head, and advise you its kindling.
I've always wanted to be a gunsmith, but circumstances have held me back. Mark, your videos are very informative, and I've learned a lot from them. Thanks
Howdy Mark! You may consider doing a video regarding straightening a rifle barrel. Keep up the good videos!
I would realy like to actually meet ya. And compare notes from my years of smiting and yours...I belive we'd both find it interesting
Just for info. Its correkt name is Gevär m/1851 or alternative.. Kammarladdningsgevär. Kammerlader should be spelled Kammarladdare (chamber loader)
digitaltmuseum.se/021025816292/gevar-m-1851
For the life of me, I can't explain why it's so satisfying to watch antiques being restored.
What size of Forster bit are you using for that screw head. Thanks, always love to see your videos!
Hair dryer is useful to aid with oil removal..iv found..
Thank you Mark, I watch, learn from, and enjoy each of your videos.
I was so wrapped up in this that one hole he drilled I almost started to blow away the dust. Really good job diving onto this project with us and making sure we can see as best as possible. Almost like Cinemascope.
This was quite the project. If you watch any of IV8888's indoor vids he has it hanging on the wall behind him, when he's not hunting with it.
FYI? when "I Counter sink" at an angle similar I have carpentry counter sink bits with a pilot bit centered. At Angles I REVESE the pilot bit and use the shank as my smooth guide. that Forstner bit could run off and damage your work piece or You? Like the reverse rotation I think I saw on camera?
The Guy "Who Owns this Gun" is Going to THANK You! shake Your Hand and Recommend YOU to All his Buddies!
Mark likes to say: "If you love sausage DON'T watch it being made!" This may look brutal to some, but it's pure art to others! Loved watching it the first time on Anvil. Definitely looking forward to watching it again here on Mark's channel!
Brother u can put this content out in the sunday papers and I buy it I've binge watched your channel all day since there's very few newspapers and even less news worthy stuff (God knows what they going to try tell us now ANYWAY) this is a amazing channel you will have my support
You Sir are my rifle guru!!! Incredible how you repairs this rifle. It has a huge recoil impulse and it holds up to with no problem. Erik is gonna love. Well I already watched his video and he is one happy young fella!!
Great project to demonstrate your considerable skills! If it were my gun, I would say "new stock, please".
Does anyone else ever get the feeling that their wife/significant other would not honestly miss them if they died? I do, and I can't say I blame her.
Too.... many..... curios and relics
After so many references to acraglass on this channel I think I will finally pull the trigger on buying some. I make knives and have heard other knife makers sing its praises for certain aplications.
“The next time you see this hot sticky mess, it’s not going to be hot or sticky”- I think I’ve said something to that effect to my wife before…
WOW a fantastic video. Thanks
Your longer work time by periods is logical. Love watching the whole thing.
Would it not be easier putting the acraglas in a syringe to put in holes less messy
See ~ 30:00 for the answer
I'd love to hear some stories about your service as a submariner. I bet your attention to detail and wide range of understanding was born or greatly honed during that time.
New sub here, I have seen your video links for a few weeks now, but the pictures never interested me. I clicked this time due to the wood stock, and now here about the small arms human society but the biggest reason I sub'ed is because of your commentary and skill at what you do. Awesome!
Decking screws in UK. You are welcome. Great channel!
Cabinet maker here.. you have made my skin crawl. What you are looking for is a countersink bit
cabinets dont have to worry about recoil.
As a former butcher I loved the sausage comment at the end. Along with the whole video 👍
Looks like Kreg pocket hole screws. Very nice and stout repair.
The extra details are well worth the out of order videos.
As long as they change there underwear I don’t care what clothes they wear
Always a pleasure. Thanks for the video.
Always a pleasure albeit terrifying at times Mark.
What are the GATS?
Slang for guns.
Have an 03-A3 with split forearm, no real problem to repair. Will be pinning the repair in 3 places; what's your opinion of pinning in apposising angles down forearm?
Pinning is a long established arsenal repair technique, and should be fine is executed with care
I will never wall paper anything.
I 'd be afraid to what his doing to an ugly chair I wouldn't mind throwing away. He does it for preservation of antiques. He da man.
Is Mark the Tod (of Tod's Workshop) of guns? Or maybe Tod is the Mark of swords?
I believe those are called pan head screws
Kindling to keepsake. Beautiful.
I would still make a point on those screws.
love anvil please new content mark
Please NO Bubba's any one can Do Bubba !
I'm wondering how the Gunsmith addressed all the worm holes. They could be munching away in there now. Thanks for the re-post.
What! no Garcia y Vega Presidente?
Oh, 32:37, never mind-
LOVE IT! MORE!!!
You are a surgeon! Awesome video!!!!
I learn something every time
What a Mighty job👏👏👏
Absolutely beautiful
GREAT VIDEO !!!
What’s your working time for your glue?
20 min open time. After that it starts to cure
In other words an old slow guy like me better not start!
Some people have no business touching a gun, let alone messing with it in any way.
Hmm, is that a cigar on the bench at 34:35?
Why yes, yes it is.....
@@marknovak8255 Nice touch. My humidor is also in my gun room, I call it the ATF room.
When I worked with the troops I would treat them to a cigar for what I called "Holy Smokes" since I was their chaplain. I discovered these from jrcigars.com
www.jrcigars.com/item/la-finca/digital-camo-ammo-box/LFAMMODC.html#start=1
Why use screws? Clean joints, quality epoxy resin and cabosil and a clamp time-all you need.
Recoil
I seem to like all of your videos.. Sometimes the actual project isn't particularly interesting.. but you're very intelligent. In my town, ( hypothetically) - You're ex navy, then you take a liking into guns... chances are people will think you're a criminal/delinquent. pfft. But kissing ass at an office where you can be replaced at an moment, well, thats where they think you should be.
Anyway, keep it up.
P.s. IF there's any apprenticeships for a UK national going.. do let me know! The next flight (2032 by the looks) I'll be there! hahaha
Repair a older firearm to be a bootable by my account. I modified a sporterized a rifle one time in my life. Regreted it every day after. People, leave a classic alone, fix it just enough to be safe. All they need. But just my opinion. I guess I'm old school. Keep the soul of a classic intact. Cheers !
how would you go about taking down something that has been recovered from a ww1 battlefield, something that is basicaly a block of rust and mud.
Recoil impulse did not cause those cracks. Somebody tried to bash something with the stock, causing the damage.
I write on my hands too 🤣🤣🤣
