I have the smaller size (the R-41PM) and they rock! Vinyl, bluetooth, CDs, aux....anything I plug into it shines. They are crisp. They don't give me the warmth I associate with vintage gear, but that doesn't matter. They are phenominal. Highly recommended. Nothing wrong with the Edifers. Those sound really good for their price range. If you listen to vinyl and want a minimalist setup, I recommend the Klipsch speakers as they have a built in phono preamp. Yes you spend quite a bit upfront but it's worth it.
I know this is probably mentioned before, but this speaker DOES have a built in phono pre-amp, so you don't need the ART box mentioned in the review. Just connect the turntable to the RCA wires and the ground wire to the binding post on the speaker and flip the line / phono switch to phono.
Apart from the sound quality and the connection options, what I love about these speakers is that they automatically sense if a paired device is trying to connect and automatically switch themselves into bluetooth mode. Even if it's currently on phono (connected to my turntable) or aux (connected to my TV), it's so convenient to be able to connect from my phone or laptop and play music right away without have to change modes on the remote. Lots of bang for the buck. For small to medium sized rooms, I think a sub wouldn't be necessary unless you're really looking for some thump when watching movies or listening to hip-hop, club/dance, techno. I hooked mine up to a Klipsch RW10 sub and almost all the time I couldn't tell wether the low end is coming from the speakers or the sub. Crossover is seamless, as it should be.
Hello, Great video but you forgot to mention that the Klipsch r51pm already has an integrated phono preamp so you do not need an external phono preamp for your turntable.
I had previously purchased powered Edifier speakers for my AT-LP60X turntable (basic beginner setup). They do sound great but I am now considering upgrading to a Cambridge amplifier. Should I switch to passive speakers instead?
It comes down to personal preference. I like passive speakers since I get flexibility in the setup, and different amplifiers modify the sound signature. However, active speakers these days are so good, and much easier to setup & use, that passives aren't always necessary.
Yes if you switch to pasive, you'll need to get an amp. If you're running a turntable with passive make sure the amp has integrated preamp @vascoernesto78
Plugged my old Technics 1600mk2 turntable since these 51 has phono preamp. Also used Optical to hook up old Technics PD 5 disc CD player. Yeah , works well with old audio, lol
I bought a pair of these 2 years ago. I had to return them due to the most annoying hiss. I hope they have fixed the problem. I eventually switched to AVR and passive speakers. No Hiss.
Hello. Thanks for your video. I wish to purchase these speakers, but im not sure if they are compatible with my turntable. I currently have the crosley cr6019e-smk. I'm not sure if it has a built-in phono preamp. Can you check if I can purchase these speakers please? Thanks a lot!
Hi man! I've been watching your videos as I'm educating myself for my first TT setup. I haven´t seen any videos on the new R-50PM, I saw Klipsch is selling them for $600, so I was wondering if have any info on them. Thanks!
Do these need a preamp for the record player? I own a Planar p2 but I was under the impression that these Klipsch have a builtin phono preamp or am I wrong? If so, any reason to use the preamp then?
would these speakers be as good for "karaoke speakers"? I am in the market for karaoke speakers 8" which usually focus on "vocal" and wondering if these Klipsch R-51PM would do well for karaoke singing?
Would these deliver enough lowend for music in a 36m2 (400sq ft) apartment? I currently use logitech z906 but are looking at these for something with higher sound quality.
More than enough for a space that size. They’d be overkill tbh, but that means if you ever move to a bigger spot in the future you’d have even more headroom and be future proofed.
I have 110hz speakers and my avr only has 100hz or 120hz selections is it ok to set avr to 100hz for my 110hz speakers or is it best to keep them at 120hz? Any help would be appreciated thank you....
Thanks for this insightful review! Just wondering...Can these speakers take two simultaneous audio signals? For example: TV via toslink, and a mic through an analog mixer via rca???
Great review. I have the edifier 1280DB and am looking to upgrade to the R-51pm. The size comparison sure was useful. Would you recommend the R-51pm over the 1280DB?
Hello.. I watched the video but didn't really understand.. Do I need to buy an external amp for these speakers to work? Can I just plug them and connect with Bluetooth?
So i just bought a fluance rt85 with a zen phono preamp and i just got these r51pms, my question is can i use the zen with these speakers? Ive been reading that these speakers have a built in phono pre amp. Did i waste money on the zen preamp?
You did not waste money! The speakers need their own amp, just as the turntable needs it's own amp. Klipsch just happens to have it's own built in. So you would do Fluance -> Phono Preamp ->Klipsch directly. Edit: after further research, the klipsch does in fact have a phono amp inside as well. So an external amp isn’t necessary. That said, the zen pre amp may be of higher quality than the built in on the Klipsch. It’s the same reason I have an external pre amp as well, even though I don’t technically need it. It’s personal preference ultimately and this gives you options.
I just got the Uturn orbit turntable with a built in preamp. I've experienced heavy distortion if both preamps are enabled. Am I doing something wrong? It seems like the extra amp is unnecessary.
@@JakeNicholson-nn6vo It turns out that this speaker has a phono pre amp built in (as well as a standard amp for its own audio generation) Long story short, you can disable the phono mode on the Klipsch and switch it to line, if you have a pre amp on the turntable or a pre amp externally. You don’t need both enabled or you will encounter distortion.
Hey man bought these after seeing your review! I have a AT-LPW40WN turntable. When I play music through bluetooth on high volume the speakers sound amazing and the bass is just right, but once i play through the phono line for vinyl any time i start to remotely play the music loud the speakers bass is way to much and it starts distorting the sound like crazy. I know i cant adjust the bass or anything was just wondering if you have this problem too or any suggestions thanks
I'm glad the speakers sound great for you. Hmmmm, I don't have that turntable so I can only pose a guess on what the issue is. Make sure that on the back of the TT, the switch is set to LINE and not PHONO. If it's set to phono, it is looking for a phono box to output sound to. If you set it to line, it means direct output (aka, it uses the internal phono amp). If that's not working, my suggestion would be to pick up a cheap phono box for your turntable. So that way it goes Turntable ->Phono Box -> Speakers. That could eliminate some issues with gain. Hopefully this helps, again it's hard to troubleshoot without having used that product before but maybe it puts you in the right direction!
I’m hard pressed to find any, to be honest. They are huge, if you’re not ready for the size and you have a small setup, then they may not be a good fit. You also can’t tune the sound signature if that’s important to you. But otherwise they are impressive in every other way. If you buy them from somewhere with a good return policy, such as Amazon or Best Buy, and you don’t like them you could always just sent them back!
@nloop Well, im actually looking for speakers for a turntable player, I have a Audio-Technica AT-LP60X-BK. So far these speakers have got my attention and I'm thinking of trying them out.
Depends which phono stage you want to use, the TT's or the Klipsch speakers'. If you want to use phono preamp on your TT set its switch to "Line" and the speakers' phone stage switch to "Phono".
Had Mikas…sometimes BT lagged/skipped turntable to mikas, better lined wired. Outta the blue, died..no BT or line. 3 years light use. Look perfect..make no sound. Cust service wouldnt offer a coupon so they lost me..wasn’t ever crazy bout them anyway

Watched four reviews on these and this was by far the best and most comprehensive. Thanks!!
Apart from the sound quality and the connection options, what I love about these speakers is that they automatically sense if a paired device is trying to connect and automatically switch themselves into bluetooth mode. I love this feature too! The way it all just works together is super nice and premium.
Can you please check which codec are they using? Do they support aptX or LDAC?
Why do you need a preamp since these speakers have a phono input?
Hello, Great video but you forgot to mention that the Klipsch r51pm already has an integrated phono preamp so you do not need an external phono preamp for your turntable.
That's a great point. I should have included that. It definitely helps remove one extra thing from the equation.
Just bought these for my turntable, can't wait!
Thanks for the review, gonna buy soon.
I just purchased these today on Amazon for $279! 50 percent off flash sale. These will replace my alesis elevate MK5
Same 😊😊
Amazing deal.
Sale is still on. Just snapped them up myself and I'll have them in a few days.

How do you feel about buying refurbished? Is it a good or bad idea for speakers?
If you're purchasing directly from klipsch or a certified partner then I wouldn't hesitate
Works well with Technics SL-V5, vertical turntable. Lucked into vintage Technics MA1 , automatic turntable, which plays great with these speakers

According to the klipsch website they have a pre-amp integrated already
How different would a klipsch R-40pm be to R-51PM? Are the tge R 40s enough for a listening distance of 10-13ft? My other option is Edifier S2000m3
Can you use banana plugs on these? The product photos show connectors that accept banana plugs but I see different connectors in your video...
What about using them as front left and right speakers with a center channel speaker
Hey, I know it is offtopic but would you mind sharing that wallpaper? Thanks
Would these Klipsch R-51M Bookshelf Speakers go with the AT-L60X-BT turntable. Do I have to wire them up the Bluetooth turn table?
Add a DAC for treble and bass adjustment .. it will improve the sound alot! Bass will be great

I made the mistake of buying really high quality studio monitors for dj’ing. Dying for something with a bit more warmth

Would you get the R-41pm’s still over the Edifier 1280DBs?
Hi! Is this speaker better than the Klipsche r-50m speakers? Thanks in advance!
How do they sound with heavy metal? For example, slipknot, Metallica, Korn, etc… do they handle those as well as, pop, rap, techno stuff?
I bought a pair and was wondering if I should getting to Sub to go with them.
Is this price for 1 speaker or pair?
It's for the pair, I have these and they are great. I matched them wirh the klispch r120sw (sub) and run my sl1200MK2 with it
Without the sub how's the bass? @@12_inch_spinnerz

If price and physical size doesn't matter to you, then hands-down these speakers blow the 1280DB out of the water for sound and build quality!
Question? Does this come with any knobs besides the volume on the back? I’ve seen some with a small remote to control levels
Thanks. What is difference with Fives?
Can I connect them to another pair of speakers?
Would the klipsch nines be much better or ??
Most certainly the nines are better. But they are almost five times the price, so I wouldn’t consider them starter speakers at all.
Hello.. I watched the video but didn't really understand.. Do I need to buy an external amp for these speakers to work? Can I just plug them and connect with Bluetooth?
Yes, the only reason you would need an external amp is for a turntable's audio. But these just work right out of the box for any other source.
