Resonated greatly. Left the suburbs. Artist in Brooklyn. Vegan. Progressive. Severely unhappy. Returned to the wilderness. Long journey, very painful. Now I am a small scale beef and poultry farmer. Still do tons of art. Rather conservative. I Drink the dirty milk. Kill and eat my pets. Sleep outside in a camper, in the cold. I see the stars at night. I am very happy now. Every day is purpose.

Even a vegetable farm must be imposed on an environment, natural habitat and native species must be eradicated to grow the food a vegan would eat. -Born in the countryside to middle class
-Moved to the big city as adolescent
    -Discovered Nietzsche
-Started to break most of the rules I've been taught
    -Studied engineering in college
    -Worked in factory. Hated it
-Moved to the Europe (I am from Africa). My mind is blown, new freedoms different cultures.
-worked in a cool start up. The motivation withered away
-went to bigger City. Became consumer. Living the Dream travelling and stuff. Felt so shallow after a while.
-worked in a bigger company. Not satisfied.
-started to do arts (dancing, singing, theater, cooking, drawing) Felt a little better.
I am now perfecting a certain routine. A lifestyle where I divide my time for the best equilibrium between work and fun.
It seems to that as long as there is some manageable difficulty in life there is satisfaction.
One has to spend time with young people preferably children. They allow you to keep a young spirit.
Don't resist the change in society towards virtual. Adapt your time. If your Real Life is great so would your virtual one.

Great content, gives me stuff to write and think about in my free time. Thought I would share my notes this time.
WHAT IS THE GOAL? I WANT IT GIVE IT TO ME I WANT TO FEEL GOOD GIVE ME PURPOSE AAAAA I WANT TO GO TO HOGWARTS (the city, the dream) AND BE A MAGICIAN (rich, ascend) GIVE ME AN ANSWER (a movement, collective idea that will elevate your personal status)- schizophrenic mania, worsened by consumerism in our age and "self-help" and, ofcourse, all these meta-schizophrenic ideas and jargon which I watch a lot of, I guess
Jargonizing the abstractions, so we don't live. Listening to music and enjoying it as concepts and ideas, but we don't actually live it as an instinct; Machine world means we are machine parts, tools, and everything we use is dead, inanimate and the way we can touch what we experience, our anima and use it like a tool is to measure it, put in a boxed jargon, data, steralize nature, separate from connection
    -living in a giant condom
    - freudian slip of tongue of having to do god's work or will (in this case to eat, pig meat) by sacrificing your kid, taking its life (he meant to say pig). reference to abraham sacrificing Isaac.
"what is my purpose?"- the inescapable thought driving industralization and urbanization, so if I am a part of it too, what the next step? "What is my purpose"? (i have it but where is it haha)
WE ARE ALL GOING TO MAKE IT- schizophrenic movements, ideas that will save us, get us to "the utopia"
inanimate surrounding inanimate you and then you are depressed and not fun to be around, no status, so you need to get one I NEEEDD PURPOSEEE SO I WILL BE XXX
"I will become a bodybuilder by eating vegan, paleo.."- I will prove that the old world's values, ideas are wrong and pave the way for the new perfect world- not that what you are doing is bad, but the mentality is destructive to who you are, as you attach yourself to these "savetheworldmovements"
Are the "architects" of the world aware of these movements or are they caught up in them? Will they manage the chaos or run head on into the utopia of "the singularity"? Napoleon is very interesting to look at from this perspective- did he get possessed by the idea, or did he possess the idea? Coming from a more individualistic perspective, I'm tempted to say the latter and I can also see it being both at the same time, but I think this question is too big for me to handle yet. He speaks words of equality and liberty, but still crowns himself Emperor.
People who are depressed and feel inanimate and tehn seek purpose and "find it" don't really believe in the jargon they talk about. It is not the idea itself that makes them feel good, but the drive itself, the drive to power and "prove people wrong" "show them" "create a utopia" "make everyone strong/weak"... blah blah blah these ideas are all useless concepts which makes it easy to project something deeply repressed inside of us- our spirit, anima, our drive to exist and conquer and grow. So maybe when people ask the question "What is my purpose?"- they are not really searching FOR something that they are actually "missing" (in the material "Purpose comes from the outside world" sense), but for some place to project and express the drive that is inside of them. So maybe when they are asking "what is my purpose?" they really mean "where can I put my purpose?" and some people view themselves as weak/ unworthy of animating themselves, so they look to the outside and give power to collective beings, instead of themselves.
Moving to the industrialized city would be like moving to a room painted in "perfect" shades of greys, while you yourself are a "mess full of color" and "juice", I suppose, and you hate youself for that and search for perfectly grey ideas to fill your mind, purpose, so maybe you can become as perfectly ordered and grey as the rational, technological world around you. But what you forget is that coloring and "animating" are the most basic drives you have and literally is "what you were put in this world to do" (there it is, your boyo meta- purpose jargon: "Your real purpose is to purpose things" haha), so these ideas and movements that you adhere to- you are coloring them, giving them life and letting them suck your juice and color so you can be more grey and monotome like your dead surroundings instead of coloring yourself and, consequently, your surroundings, instead of spraying and creating color, which is very different from letting yourself get color sucked off you.

It's really amazing the way the internet has created these digital superorganisms. Clusters of people massively separated by geography who nonetheless have moved through the same developmental phases in synchrony with one another.
It's as if we in our corner of the internet are the many avatars of one tribal god, which has been sending us covert dispatches through the web since the first time we logged in.
Also, "living in a condom" is the metaphor of the century. Well struck, my good man.

It lets me go down secret paths and shit through forests throughout the city, and just lets me get alot more done in a day. I also started learning Tonfas and bought a bunch of percussion instruments (shakers, foot tambos, drumsticks etc.) and I'm looking forward to being a travelling skateboarder drummer ninja this summer. This is very engaging stuff. Not too heavy on the intellectual angle with regard to philosophy, which is a relief, frankly.
The enlightened vegan angle resonates. Sure, we eat too much meat and the conditions and quality is shocking, but it's not always healthy to be vegan for years. Probably genetic and epigenetic factors determining how necessary key nutrients in meat would be for an individual. Never underestimate how strange obscure situations, conditions and afflictions can be....I can only tolerate about 10 foods. Without meat I'd be screwed! But it has made me appreciate the restorative properties of marrow and broths and to lesser extent meat as a whole. On the other hand I've also noticed how even the traces of antibiotics in meat can upset the gut, if already unstable.
The population/civilisation (?) discussion is fascinating to. Are global calamities our Horsemen?

The fact that everyone rushed around in a panic is indicative that it isn’t so obvious and so simple. I like watts but not everything he said was correct. We are driven by natural urges and we are psychologically punished for not giving into them. One way or another. Nature always wins.

About the mouse utopia experiment, something that isn’t mentioned is that the rooms/mouse nests lacked a door or a way for mouses to lock or hide the entrance. So other mouses entered the nests, killed the babies mouse and raped the female.
So a point that can be made that the violence was increased exponentially with a lack of privacy and escape.

When the entire world is interconnected, where will privacy be? Where will an individual go to escape?

    • @melaniey.5596

@@miriamw. Well there is also the option of limiting the amount of social media accounts one has, or just silencing/ deleting them. While it limits your standing/presence in the digital society, that’s not the only society that exist in the world and that’s the society one chooses to interact with.
But I’m also talking more about the physical barriers, and the lack of them is what let to more of the violence and the eventual decrease of population.

    • @melaniey.5596

@@miriamw. But I suppose that’s an very unempathetic response, because I suppose you mean what to do when you can’t disengage with that amount of interactivity because of circumstances or economic reasons? Well if one can’t escape... the only thing that can be done is change how we interact with them. At least put time limits or don’t go so deep that it sucks you.

Ya know, it would really be cool if we could have a second Bronze Age, except with the bare exoskeletons of certain technologies and medicines and still the knowledge to use thereof, but also with the memories of the poison we poured into ourselves with it, by willingly offering ourselves up (and yes, also in a very sexual way) to Machina. We have the memory of how the technotic spider almost had us forego all of our spirits. And then we could progress once again with developing certain technologies, but from a far distance and with boundaries set, and again a cultivation of tradition and initiation. Most importantly, abandoning any pipe dreams of Utopia, knowing it is exactly that which turns our worlds into Hell. That'd be pretty sweet. Honestly though, I'd probably get killed by a saber tooth tiger like right when it started.

Really like this talk, it articulated ideas expressed in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Repair (among others). Wasnt the definition of Hell being in the absence of God and connection to Creation? Imagine if we interacted with the world purely through abstractions be it technology without understanding it, political ideology without thinking through it, consuming food without planting or killing, or not even knowing your neighbor. Wouldnt that be a scary place to live in?
