      Hi Genius , you mentioned that Singapore is too small to be a country.
      1. Singapore is 721 km2
      2. Qatar is 11,586 km2
      3. Malaysia is 330,803 km2
      Why is SG & Qatar so much richer than Malaysia? Its not the countries fault nor is it the countries size, its the babi people and their mindset of building a nation.
      And also i doubt you know Monaco & Vantican are some of the smallest countries in the world.

    Life is not a zero sum game. Just because Singapore made enormous wealth, does not mean that they "stole" it from someone else. They created it. Nothing stops Malaysia from creating similar wealth. There is tremendous growth in global wealth every year. Not transfer, but growth. Make your own destiny. Do not blame others. Observe the non-aggression principle.

      @@zulrahman2476 Lets stick to the facts and not digress, I see some Singaporeans talking abt how SG provide jobs to malaysia and some Malaysians talking abt how Malaysia has better housing. This is digression at its finest. Heres the facts without any form of biasedness. This is all WAYANG at its best. When Mahathir was in power back then, he had the opportunity to ask for a review during the window, but he didnt. He knew damn well inflation is obviously a thing yet he didnt ask for a review. Now he wants to make up for his mistake by playing victim and blaming Singapore so that he doesnt come off as guilty. Did Mahathir forget that apart from treated water itself, more than $100 mil was invested in Johor Dam and pipelines project which benefitted Johoreans as well? Did Mahathir forget that during flood crisis, while malaysia send their Bomba to help, SG send the army along with PUB technicians to provide treated water to the victims by setting up pump stations? Did Mahathir forget the instances whereby certain sources of freshwater dried up and the agencies called SG for help to send excess treated water? At the end of the day, an agreement is an agreement. Whoever signed the agreement on Malaysia's part was to be blamed for not taking inflation into account along with Mahathir's error in assuming that isnt a need for a review back then.

      Wasi whay nonsense. The agreement was inked initially between Sultan of Johor and British authirity in Singapore in 1926.
      Subsequently it was rwnewed in 1962. Tge scenario that time was that Singapore was about to joint Tanah Melayu to form Malaysia.
      There is a clause on price revision aftwr 25 years.
      SINGAPORE in Malaysia became a problem when Lee Kuan Yew purposely challenged Malay rights that was agreed upon independenxe of Tanah melayu.
      In the nutshell, Malay Rulers in 1957 would have agreed to grant citizenships to non malays in scale unrivalled on thia planet only if Malays were accorded special.position IN return to mind boggling citizenship to non malays.
      LEE KUAN YEW portrayed Malays as racist. True to Malay characyer of being merciful, Tunku decided Singapore must go.
      Other leaders on this planet would have simply thrown Lee Kuwn yew under detention .
      As for price of water sold, honestly are you thinking 3 cents per thousand gallon of water is reasonable today.
      Thank God, it is Malaysia thay supplies water to Singapore, not the other way around.
      And tge insult like Malaysia loves to bully Singapore does not make sense. If that is the intention, Tunku would simply lock Lee Kuan Yew the way Kaun Yew did to his political opponent.

      Actually in the past like 1960s up till 1990s the Opposition was more vocal and sometimes had better ideas than PAP - i had relatives who got to watch the uncensored versions back then. But PAP eventually managed to silence their opponents or convince them to join PAP . And as time went on "the culture" of speaking up and rebuttals in Parliment has changed. Nowadays most of the "bright minds" are already part of PAP - so not much debate (unlike other countries) since most of the members of parliment think alike. Good or bad? I think the lower classes in Singapore are more worried about "legalised corruption and legalised cronyism" but feel helpless to stop the trend.

      John wei,
      Sabah is part of Malaysia now. Sulu Sultanate ceased to exist in 1915 when the then Sultan renounced his sovereignty through Carpenter Treaty.
      As such Sulu Sultanate has no right to claim Sabah.
      This is very clear during the most defining moment of Sabah history which was the change of atatis from being a British colony to that of a state within Malaysia.
      Nobody asked the consent from.Sulu Sultanate in 1962 simply because the kingdom has already ceased to exist at that time.
      On the contrary, the consents of Malay Rulers were essential durinh the journey to independence of Malaya in 1957. Simply for the reasons that the Highnesses in 1957 were sovereign recognised by the whole world.
      As for watwr supply to Singapore, one of the clause is rwvision of water price after 25 years. It was inked first by then Sultan of Johor in 1927.
      In 1962, Malaya signed the renewal treaty with the British( Sibgapore was still a colony).

      @Septimius Severus you have not been doing research a lot i think, by the time the 1962 water agreement expire in 2061, Singapore will estimated to be already self sustain in water already, like what Dr Vivian said, we invest in infrastructure ahead of time, we are already building more desalination plants, we COULD be self-sustain if there is a need, but currently the COST of making water from sea, is still > than buying raw water from Johore, so can you explain why will we WANT to be 100% self substain if there is a cheaper source for the time being, if in a real war, and the water supply is cut, of cos i think the production of sea->fresh water will be RAMP up to counter the drop.
      but at a higher price for your tap water at home. Singapore knows eventually when the 2061 expiry comes, Malaysia may jolly well not renew or raise the price, hence it is already making preparations ahead of time.

Yet, under two different leaders Mr. Lee Kuan Yew and Doctor Mahathir, Singapore progressed much faster. Malaysia has more resources, more land, more people, has oil, gold, tin, rubber, etc. Yet Singapore still progressed faster. What policies went wrong? Which of the policies worked? Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, apart from personally choosing not to review the price of water in 1987 , had a further opportunity to revise the price.
    In a letter to then Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew, Tun Dr Mahathir offered to sell water to Singapore at a "fair price" of 60 sen per 1,000 gallons, in return for concessions on other elements of an overall package.
    Responding to the offer in a letter dated April 23, 2001, Mr Lee said that if there was "give and take on both sides, an agreement is possible".
    It was in this spirit that Mr Lee visited Kuala Lumpur in September 2001.
    But while negotiations were in progress, the Malaysian government raised the asking price to RM3 per 1,000 gallons, 100 times the existing price of raw water.
    This demand made it difficult for common ground to be reached, and led to a stalemate in the negotiations.
    Rather than rummage through history and indulge in the politics of envy, Dr Mahathir should look into the future and see how the issue of water price can be resolved.
    Until then, Singapore will stand by the terms of the 1962 Water Agreement.
    Any breach of that agreement would, according to Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, call into question the Separation Agreement, which is the basis for Singapore's existence as an independent sovereign state.

    Remember, he did mention that the price Singapore sells its water back to Malaysia, has already been "heavily subsidized", and this was based on the contract which both nations have agreed on a very long time ago, Singapore at that time was not as prosperous as it is today and knowing that they still agreed to the deal, do you know how much it costs to treat water? running an operation island wide not only that, but also to Johor? There are equipment that has to be maintained, workers to that needs their salary, just as Singapore grows, the standard of living grows too, what makes you think that all these do not need additional cost.
    There is only one thing Mahathir can do, that is to just void the contract and cut all water supply to Singapore, that of course would be killing of Singapore slowly but what would the whole world think of Malaysia? Yes, a cruel country, no matter how much Mahathir emphasis on how Singapore is "morally wrong" to sell water at a higher price but remember, it has already been subsidized and there is the contract to back Singapore, we did nothing wrong, not only that but remember our cost of living increased so you have to account for that too, sure Johor can very well survived on the water they have, i am sure they have some sort of water purification facility.
    Now back to the water, Mahathir can talk about the "morale" he emphasized but the position he put Singapore in is so called "threatening" us, he can choose to stop the flow of water into Singapore just like many of his citizens would want but what about the morale that he solely emphasis on? What will the whole world think of Malaysia? Singapore has many investors and countries which it has bilateral relations to help out us out, either that or we will die off, but again what will the whole world think of Malaysia, i'm sure most of the citizens will say that they don't care but wait a few years later and see what happens, investors will leave even countries would want to break ties.

    Lets stick to the facts and not digress, I see some Singaporeans talking abt how SG provide jobs to malaysia and some Malaysians talking abt how Malaysia has better housing. This is digression at its finest. Heres the facts without any form of biasedness. Stop playing the "water is sold at a ridiculous price" "sg should be grateful" card when those arent the underlying reasons for SG's refusal. An agreement is an agreement, just because a business u invested in is doing well beyond ur expectations, it doesnt give u the right or privilege to demand for a higher equity?

      You would probably need to explain why would multinational companies invest in Singapore in making use of Singapore as a financial services hub of SEA instead of Msia? The answer honestly you would know best. Evidently so, this answer is the very reason why a number of Msians are coming to Singapore to ply their trade and for many Msians who study overseas (e.g. UK, US, Australia), would place those countries as the first choice of destination to work. Just FYI, whatever Dr M is doing has to a certain extent, a knock-on impact on the Msians in Singapore..

    • @nancylian9962
      @nancylian9962 5 років тому +3

      @Jairul Joe
      First of,
      There is no wrong-doing on SG's part with regards to the water, we are simply abiding by the agreement. It was signed in the 60s for a considerable time by BOTH PARTIES, complaining about the price now, half a century later reflects badly on the then Malaysia negotiators for their failure to price in the economic growth/inflation we see now.
      Secondly,
      You claim that we are not ethically managing it right?
      Treating water and selling it back to Malaysia at a higher price is always brought up. But pple conveniently overlook the party that pays for the infrastructure needed for the treatment. It has totalled by some reports over a billion dollars, does Msia cover that or subsidise it? If not do you think you are getting the treated water back at the our purchase price?
      Come on man, elementary stuff...
      Third,
      Why are your rebukes focused on bribery and corruption? Digressing from the topic completely and conspicuously avoiding the point @ZZ L brought up on how SG's reasons for success is incidentally MSIA's reasons for stagnation.
      Maybe its time, to confront the issue at hand?
      MSIA's leaders are just not as competent as SG's;how else can a tiny red dot, devoid of resources totally outplay, outwit their contemporaries across the border?

    • @nancylian9962
      @nancylian9962 5 років тому +3

      @Jairul Joe
      The problem is MSIA's incompetence and their supporters' are too myopic to acknowledge it.
      RM 0.5 obviously does not equate to SGD 0.5, funny how you should point this out; you do realise that a currency's strength is indicative of their countries's economy right?
      Truth be told; if MSIA has the capabilities to make the treatment themselves, go ahead.. by all means, at the very least it spares us the yearly episode of MSIAN's crying foul.
      But i highly doubt yall could, else yall would have done it already... there's a word that sums this all well : INCOMPETENCE. Look it up CHUMP

    • @BomBomm12345
      @BomBomm12345 5 років тому +3

      Mr Joe, I dont think you know the or even understand the clear facts. What I am seeing here is a supporter that is crying foul over the failings of his government, particularly, his current PM (for his historical failings). It was your government who signed the agreement - nobody forced your hand to do so. It was Dr M himself who failed to review the agreement when he had the chance to do so. If there is any culpability on why the price is whatever you have mentioned, you should know who to lay the blame onto.

    • @quakespr
      @quakespr 5 років тому +2

      @Jairul Joe The moral issue that Dr M raised is completely irrelevant to the water issue. Moral is not determine by price, it is determine by the integrity and character of a person.

It shows that the Singapore leaders who were involved in signing the original agreement were far sighted and highly intelligent. Malaysia must not worry when raw water comes from rain water and Allah always gives you back your raw water in the form of floods and landslide. It cost Malaysia no money or effort to treat your raw water and you get subsidise rate for treated water because Singapore is very diligent and will sell you treated water at a subsidise rate because you cannot afford to pay for water treatment.

    As a Johor native many of us approve the deal, we've been relying on Singapore to supply us with treated water for awhile now. The trade is mutually beneficial and sometimes even one-sided favouring Johor instead of Singapore due to our demands (Johoreans) for treated water especially during droughts. Please understand that the people of Johor do not share values or policies with the federalist.

    Malaysia does not respect the 1962 Agreement and Malaysia has lost the right to revise the raw water price after not doing so in 1987.
    Malaysia has always respected and never violated the terms of the 1962 Agreement. The Government of Malaysia merely states that it has the right to revise the raw water price sold to Singapore, after 25 years of the 1962 Agreement entered into force.
    Malaysia's right is not disputable. Clause 14 The agreement clearly provides that it may be reviewed today, and not only in 1987, since the clause states "... shall be subject to review after the expiry of 25 years from the date of these presents ... ". The "after" statement in this clause means "after" instead of "current".

    At that time of Separations, Malaysia Govt thought Singapore cannot survived without any resources. Also they thought the water they got was free from sky and selling to SG for money make economical sense. Afterall the impure water will be treated by SG and sell back to Malaysia for also a few cents. Malaysia don't have to come out any capital. Get a few cents from a rich country is inmoral ? SG was poorer than MY. Formerly at time of Separation SG Dollars was at $1 - 80 MY cts. Due to Corruption and incompetent officials, Malaysia with vast resources the money went to corrupted pockets.
