Mariana - "To dhiko sou asteri"
For my 60th video, one of my personal favourites from 1989 and from Greece. Encouraging the listener to look for your star, Mariana Efstratiou returned to the Eurovision stage with this hopeful and inspiring song. A beautiful and impeccably arranged melody with very wise lyrics; when the going gets rough, look for your star. Smile and life smiles with you.
It was much better when all countries song on their own language. Greece sounds beautiful

That year my country Switzerland gave Greece 12 points :) and she deserved it.
The following year, Greece returned the 12 points back to Switzerland.
The best ESC entry from Greece! No fireworks, no dancers, just a wonderful song, voice and live orchestra! Greece should have won in 1989!

Εκεινα τα χρονια το αγαπουσα κ τωρα το αγαπω, κ μου αρεσε η συμμετοχη μας. Τοτε μου αρεσε. Γιατι τωρα, το βλεπω κ δε με ενθουσιαζει η παρουσιαση. Τελεια φωνη, υπεροχη μουσικη, αλλα μηδενικη σκηνικη παρουσια κ με εκνευριζει απιστευτα αυτο το κρατημα στο μικροφωνο με το δευτερο χερι. Ουτε μια ματια στην καμερα. Πιστευω πως με καλη σκηνικη παρουσια κ μια δεουσα κινησιολογια, γιατι τοτε δεν εκαναν χορογραφιες φυσικα, αυτο θα εμπαινε πενταδα. Αλλα δεν το υποστηριξε καθολου η κατα τα αλλα γλυκια κα Ευστρατιου. Δε φταιει η ιδια, ολη η ομαδα που δουλεψε φταιει.

One of few, really few songs that I like and want to sing again in this awful 1989 year.
A good year imo, miles better than 1988
That song and the greek entry of ESC 1989 with only 9th!! place shows how corrupt and fixed was the contest in the 1980 decade. Maybe is a good thing after all that so many changed over the years.
It's not a song that stands out, so a 9th place is a good result.
Also it's kinda funny that the word corrupt is being used. Isn't the most corrupt thing is being given 12 points from Cyprus no matter what song Greece sends?
It doesn't stand out, like the dated abba rip offs that scandinevian countries sent for 20 years and won the competition.

Poor her, nobody said to her that she had to look at the camera with the red light and she was searching it the whole song.
These days the contestants usually didn't look into the camera att all. They sang for the live audience, and the habbit of looking in to the camera bacame common much later. Specially after the public votes where introduced.
Poor you for not knowing the facts right,nobody looked to the camera back in the day.
The question I have is why does it seem that the commenters is speaking Swedish at the end of the video when it seems that this was the ÖRF (Austria) broadcast?
He is speaking Swedish. It's because I ripped this footage from a DVD of this contest, which had several audio streams. I chose the Swedish one because it's the clearest and the commentator didn't blabber into the beginning of songs. Curiously, the only German audio stream was from the German broadcast, not the Austrian one, lol. I really don't know why the Austrian stream wasn't included in that case.
I would prefer to see Anna vissi there with her song "Klaio"
